Haha ESPN picked up on it as well in addition to the CBS article: http://espn.go.com/blog/collegebasketballn...-seal-treatmentThey'll be doing water exercises tomorrow in the James River. There should be a video feature on Hell Week coming out by VCUAthletics and I'll share that for your viewing pleasure. Here are some pictures of the exercises so far: Day 1: http://www.vcuathletics.com/sports/mbkb/20...otos/0001/indexDay 2: http://www.vcuathletics.com/sports/mbkb/20...otos/0002/indexWe're going to be pretty good according to people who would know. Better than maybe I was expecting. Our game should be a good one! Here's Day 3 of the water exercises: http://vcuathletics.com/sports/mbkb/2011-1...otos/0004/index...and here's a 9 minute video piece on the overall 3-day SEAL 'Hell Week': I have no doubt this team may not be the most talented, but they are certainly one of the most fit and toughest squads out there.Hate to break it to ya, but almost every team in America does that or something similar. Hell, I did it at DII NAIA.

Second round of conference expansion is beginning.

It is starting to look like TCU may have made a huge mistake joining the Big East.TCU, Houston, SMU look like they could be strong big 12 replacements should Oklahoma and Texas AM leave. -

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/_/...nks-source-saysLooks like the Big East is now a victim of the shuffle if Pitt and Syracuse bounce for the ACC...interesting. -
Kid is a headcase and has a rep for being lazy and selfish, but he is a monster as far as being a talent. Zeke will have his hands full because he is a grown man in the post.

Tell that to Dennis Erickson, pretty sure Arizona St had no issue with his age. He was around the same age as Tress is now when he took over that program.

I was there. No way that place was half full. Each game could get an allotment from students, whether they go or not. Take the Buffalo game last year, there was maybe 200 people in the crowd. It could be that each game gets a 5,000 student boost because they allocate 5,000 tickets to students a game. Makes my initial argument that Akron Soccer draws more fans than Akron Football look more legit.I didn't go to the opened. Glad I didn't after seeing what happened to the team. I go with my father to the games, but after a long work week and having to work a half day on Saturday, sketchy weather, I can't blame him for saying "I really dont feel like going to watch them play, especially after going to Columbus last week."Working til 5 myself, it's just not worth it.

I think the entire point is that how a team looks with their uniforms and gear is very important. Either way.Our football uniforms are slightly boring, but atleast they are updated somewhat. Our basketball team is not taking advantage of the Lebron James relationship at all. They have customized shoes, which is big, but they could use a lot of work on their uniforms and having possibly more alternates. I am sure Nike would do whatever Lebron asks in that regards if Akron really wanted more options.

There was a great story that not that back about that crash and the asst coach who switched with another coach and how a player was like his son and the regret he lives with now because of the death of that player. Great read...very very sad.As a former college basketball player, I was not a DI guy, so my school always traveled by bus or vans. I think there is more risk with that, the college baseball team from Ohio that crashed a couple years ago comes to mind. But if I recall, only the top tier programs fly smaller planes. Most travel commercial IIRC. But those rental fleets that most schools use, they typically use the smaller planes and I think that is where more risk comes into play. You rarely hear of the big boeing jets falling out of the sky. It is almost always smaller planes. I am not sure why that is? Anybody familiar with the industry?

To answer my own question...nope. If you get cut by the Bungles, is that it?I can't believe the crap stew Cincy is serving at QB this season.I wonder what Brian Kelly would give for Dan LeFevour right now?Seeing on how Reis is probably a better QB, not much.

We are a young team going up against an experienced Temple team that wiped the field with us last year. I think being able to keep this game competitive will show us where we really stand. I just don't see how we can contain Peirce, he is a great runner and he is going to get his touches. Can our DL and LBs cause enough disruption in their OL to make a difference? That is going to be the key to game, as well as not losing our focus on the big play as somebody else pointed out. Disappointed that I work and I won't make the game, because it would be great to see where we stack up against a more natural opponent. It was a long drive home from Columbus but I expected that. I honestly don't know what to expect out of this game as the MAC is so unpredictable but I am anxious. I am hoping we keep it close, and I don't think there is any shame in saying that. Temple is one of the fav to win the MAC this year. We probably have the youngest team on the field...those are just the facts.

, I've been questioning that since his original press conference when he was introduced. I got sick of everyone telling me to "wait and see" how that approach worked when I knew it was doomed from the start, so I moved on to other things. Which shows your ignorance. Foolish...

You maybe the only person that thinks they are "cool". They got destroyed on twitter....they are hideous.

This thread is a classic example of why it is pretty pointless to even entertain visiting here on a regular basis. A few ruining the reputation of many with their ignorance.

Those are awesome....wish we would add some flavor like that in our uni lineup.

Ill be in the stadium with my Zips gear. let's ROLLLLLLL!

:wall: I most certainly want the Zip to always succeed, but even more so with people like Zach that just talk out of their ass. This guy didn't stand a chance with half the fan base because he was from Notre Dame and/or the new AD hired him. It's disgusting....no matter what Rob does, people like Zach will try to tear it apart. I hope, just as a Zips fan, that Rob can get it done. But even more I want him to do well just so people like Zach can shut the hell up. I love how the guy is the worst coach ever when he hasn't even been given a shot to be a coach with some of these people.

How do you deserve the right the start when you played for two years and played very poorly???? If you want to toss some blame to the OL, I will listen for a little bit. They didn't create the best pockets in the world, but PN7 wasn't running many plays that needed 5 seconds. The guy couldn't throw an accurate pass to save his life, that is not on the WR. We had a decent corps of WRs last year, not earth shattering but they couldve got the job done.....had the QB been able to give them a decent ball. Ive seen all I need to see out of Nicely. I can def buy that he isn't a good leader...I sit right in front of the sidelines and after a poor start, the entire offense just looked finished. He wasn't (nor anybody else besides maybe Alex Allen) tried to ever fire the guys up. I think anybody that really disagrees with the switch at QB is hell bent on not liking anything CoachI does, and just wants to rebel.
-
Like I have said, we have watched PN7 play the last two years. If he is the starting QB again this year, this team is in for a world of hurt. He is not a DI caliber QB, he just doesn't have it. Moore should be the starting QB, let's see what he has to offer. Nicely isn't going to get it done and if he is the starter....just going to have to prepare myself for another long long long season of bad Akron football.
-
Exactly! So they changed the format....tell Dambrot to do better in the regular season so we are in better position to have a higher seed. We have flopped in conference play the last couple of years, all we have to do is win the MAC to get a bye. One would assume that is what you want your team to do anyhow and this is the MAC, we should be near the top every year. In a different thread, aren't people saying we should be ranked? Well if we are ranked, I am fairly certain that we would have had to finished strong in the MAC, no?

The Big 12s days are numbered. Those schools are going to break up and go to other conferences and the Big 12 will go away. 5 16 member BCS conferences is now a real possibility. The key remaining piece is Texas. If they move, the remaining members of the Big 12 have no choice. C-USA is a possibility for us, but I think a 16 member Big East with all members participating in football is more realistic. Our size and growing research profile fit the institutional requirements, our Akron-Canton-Cleveland media market is a good fit, we've had a lot of athletic success on the national level in the past 5 years, and our facilities are great. The only limiting factors are (maybe) the lack of a medical/pharmacy college, success on the football field, and our basketball facility. If there are plans for a future arena, the basketball facility issue could be overlooked. Just remember, UC was not strong in football when they joined and have ever only won 2 national championships 30+ years ago in basketball. We are a much better fit than most of you realize. Look for the Big East to take 5 other schools: UCF, UMass, East Carolina, Memphis, and Akron in that order. And if we don't get the call from the Big East, there will definitely be openings in C-USA, and I have to think we are a front runner for one of those. I have no doubt that the Big East will split based on football though. Acceptance would signal the end of any hope for the basketball team. There is no way the Zips have a prayer in that conference for Basketball and with the current facilities, new talent still wouldn't come. Now, it could be a good thing for the football team if the current staff has the ability to recruit to the level of conference. Depending on how this all shakes out, CUSA might be a better fit for us for all sports.

Any word on where some of these guys ended up going??

Speaking of the Buckeye game, did they send out tickets yet?

Really good point, CK. HS size is irrelevant in AAU competition. The best from the small schools get to play against the best from the big schools. A small HS player who can perform well against top big HS players in AAU won't be at a disadvantage in going directly from small HS competition to DI college competition. The following link about how Blake Justice performed in AAU competition a couple of years ago was posted in an earlier Justice thread: Justice's return helps fuel Team CBIZ at the Bill Hensley Memorial Run ‘N Slam Diebler scored around 44PPG in a small division school and did pretty well at OSU, when I assumed he would struggle greatly. So it can translate, just as the above poster points out, AAU gives them the chance to show their talent against better teams than he would see in the season.
