  1. Michigan State Center to Transfer

Garrick Sherman: Height- 6'10" Rivals had him listed at 4 stars ESPN graded him at a 90

The school made the announcement Monday. He averaged 12 minutes, threepoints and 2.6 rebounds a game last season as a sophomore.

Sherman says he believes it is time for a fresh start. Michigan State coachTom Izzo says he met with every player after the season and Sherman later choseto leave after talking with his family.

Sherman averaged nearly 24 points and 16 rebounds two years ago as a seniorat Kenton High School in Ohio.

He played in 70 games, starting 29, for the Spartans and averaged 2 1/2points and two rebounds a game.

With Sherman looking to make a fresh start, a school close to home might be a good fit. Should Akron take any interest in this kid?

I believe Can't State thinks this kid is a lock as long as Senderoff is made HC.

I suppose this all is dependent on how our scholarship situation plays out, but if we end up with an extra one this kid could provide Zeke the backup many people are searching for.

  2. "Shaka has been through a lot of adversity in his life," Dambrot said. "He is not some silver spoon dude now; a single parent mom pretty much raised him. Not a lot of money. Well educated. You look at him and think he's some rich spoiled kid because he's so smart, but he not. He's one tough dude. He's had to grind to get where he has gotten."

Do you think Dambrot really said that?

  3. I believe it was Captain Kangeroo who said he'd like to see the conference championships mean more to the BCS leagues and I agree. Right now, they are money grabs for the conferences with some teams hoping for redemption via winning them after less than hoped for regular season performances; I agree. Make all conference winners automatic participants in March madness, make regular season conference winners in as well. I'm not a statistician but with these two changes for all conferences you could still top out at 128 teams. There would still be seeding and I believe there should be some worth/benefit to winning the regular season and for winning the conference championship at the end of the regular season and as a previous poster stated, it would only add one more day to March Madness. It would also throw more $ into the NCAA and the conferences. Anyone know what financial impact making the NCAA's had on the Zips?

I do know that AU got some credit... ;)

  4. I was at the game. Toledo played poorly but luckily you guys were worse. ;) Both sides missed a lot of open shots but I thought it was Toledo's defense that won the game. Tecca had a nice game for Akron as well as Murphy but I thought Murphy got away with one too many elbows...

BTW, not sure how you guys feel about Jodi Kest but I wasn't impressed. She spent most of her energy yelling at the officials over calls that were correct. Seems like she has been there long enough and I still don't see Akron anywhere near the top echelon of the conference (UT, BG, Can't, & Eastern)

Let's see. Downtrodden, back bencher Zips getting away with fouls even at home. The Refs must be slipping.

Most coaches "work" the refs. Get over it.

Kest has done a pretty decent job of lifting the lowly Lady Zips out of the stink cellar. All this while being

continually poached by other conference teams ... including yours.

This season Zips are young often starting three true freshmen. The Sockets start juniors and seniors.

Zips got lucky with the scheduling or the might Sockets would have crushed the poor Lady Zips in TwoLeeDo.

Try tossing a compliment or two rather than ranting how your over dog team sucked on the road.

Geez, one of your ex- players decides to transfer to a school that wins, gets to the postseason, and ranks in top 50 of attendance in NCAA. What a piece of **** she is for having those aspirations.

BTW, she is not on scholarship and probably won't be next year.

Didn't realize you start three freshmen...im sure Tricia Cullop will convince them to transfer two hours west where they might have a chance to win...:D

Yeah, she left a scholarship for a dump campus in a city that's only famous for its NeoNazi groups and the fact that it's conveniently close to Detroit without actually being in Detroit. She also left a team that was definitely on the upswing and no doubt on the way to being a contender in the conference.

She's a traitor and a stupid one at that.

An incredibly stupid decision to give up a scholarship for walk on status. She probably could not graduate

from the University of Akron in the first place. Bad decision; a really, really, bad decision.

The bitterness displayed here is incredible. We had two players transfer last summer (one was a major contributor) and I heard not one single negative comment from a Rocket fan. Shoot, if Naama herself wanted to transfer to Akron  I'd bet a lot of Toledo fans would thank her and wish her luck.

We'll see how bad of a decision Baumgartner made when she gets to play in the NCAA or WNIT tournament in 2012 and 2013. I'm sure Akron will get there by that point...

  5. Disappointed that I will be out of town for this one, but hope to follow it closely just the same. It would be nice if Nik & Nitro continue to put the ball in the hoop, but I agree with most that the game will be won by the team what rebounds and defends better. I predict a "semi-break-out" game from Abreu.....say 8 points and 7 assists.

This Monday on Zips Live I believe I heard Dambrot mention Abreu twisted his ankle in practice (or something to that extent) but hopefully it's nothing. I think the crowd will be much smaller than it should be for a game of this magnitude. The Zips have what it takes to win this game they just need to find a good rhythm on offense, connecting from both inside and out without getting sloppy.
