Do you think Akron and Dambrot will approach this as if it were a scrimmage or a game? I have to think there will be a lot of experimentation with the rotations even early on.
It will be quite the shock going into Dayton for some of these guys.

*Spoiler Alert*
Here I just settled the debate for guys. I'm sitting next to Nik in class and I just asked him who is red-shirting this year. He said that because two of the spots on the roster are occupied by guys who can't play, no one is red shirting this year. In a sense, those guys take away spots normally reserved for red shirts, and so it makes sense to have more players available. MAYBE he is mistaken, but it just makes sense to me that a player on the team is a reliable source.
Noo
Exciting news for anyone who wants to see Egner make some explosive plays!

Was looking through some top NBA Draft prospects, and found this list of non-BCS conference players.
Check out number 21

The description leaves quite a bit to be desired...

PS You old school typewriter guys do realize there is no need to use two spaces after a period with the invention of proportional fonts right? The Chicago Manual of Style, the AP Stylebook, and the Modern Language Association all recommend using one space after a period at the end of a sentence. Specific explanation from Grammer Girl

I completely disagree with your top nine. McNees, Roberts, McKnight, Cvetinovic and Marshall will certainly be in there. They are established players and guys we are going to have to rely on. That is five. Abreu almost has to play due to our lack of depth at the guard spots. That makes six. McClanahan has been named the starter at SF and had a pretty nice night in the exhibition game. That makes seven. Bardo is a senior (we all know KD likes his veterans) and gives us some size at C when Zeke isn't in there. KD is going to play him. That makes eight. Now ask yourself, who should that ninth (and tenth I suppose) spot go to? Your options are A.) Quincy Diggs - The athletic wing who can handle the ball and break guys down off the dribble that we've been clamoring for for years. B.) Dakotah Euton - A big guy who has 3 point range, is a strong rebounder, sets good screens and is fundamentally sound. C.) Josh Egner - An athletic freak who is better at the defensive end than on offense and according to KD needs some work on fundamentals. or D.) Michael Green - A strong player with diverse offensive talents who is lacking in confidence and looks unsure of himself.
Personally, if it is me and I want to fill out my ninth and tenth positions I'm going with A and B. If you asked me in the offseason I absolutely felt that Josh deserved some playing time this year, but with his ankle injury he is behind the rest of the guys. He won't be able to get by on pure athleticism all season long, he is going to have to know our sets and be able to play the brand of team ball that KD likes to play and I don't think he is going to be able to just pick that up on the fly. Giving him a year to practice and watch how it is done seems like the best idea for him right now.

Going into this year for Millikin:
Starters Returning: 1
Starters Lost: 4
Letter winners Returning: 4
Letter winners Lost: 8
(and only 4 of the players lost were seniors)
Maybe they've reloaded better and stronger?? (Certainly not taller)
I'm so pumped for basketball that the coaches could throw 5 chairs onto the court to play against and I'd still be excited.
-
It's probably easier to explain to the Millikin fan base that it was only an exhibition after we school them.
On a related note, at least the pre-season polls have them ranked well within their conference...
-
I look for Millikin to make a big push in the polls...

The kids probably hungry to win, UMBC went 4-26 last year.
...and one of those teams they lost to was TOLEDO!!

This is a high school student section that I saw when looking at Dakotah Euton highlights.(skip to around 3:30)...a high school student section

I've said it before, I think there should be enforced student seating in the general admission areas behind the baskets (or an even better section would be great). I used to be one of those students who was scattered throughout the JAR. Should it have stopped me from cheering..no..but it did. I think the rowdies just need to hook fellow students, whether rowdies or not and get them involved in the game. If they all sit together they'll realize how its done...it's ok to be an Akron fan! I don't think some student are quite there yet. ...or just build a grass berm for everyone, that works tooDon't kill me, this is just my honest opinion. Like other posters have pointed out, the Rowdies have turned into a semi-sorta clique. There's like the 15 or 20 "regulars" that sit on the North side at the JAR and attend everything. Which is a great thing, but people don't want to be associated with them. Some think they get too "rowdy" some think they're too cool for the Rowdies. I'm not saying get rid of the Rowdies, but let all the students sit down there! when it gets full every game, instead of 3 games a year, then get exclusive. I used to sit down there every game, but none of my friends want to anymore, so I don't. There are hundreds, thousands? of kids like me that go to the games, but don't sit with the Rowdies. Make it a student section, not a Rowdie section. Make it the cool thing to do. It would be tough, but it would work really well if we could get all the students to sit in one section. Open a few reserved sections up? Make one GA above the basket students only? Just some suggestions, but we have one of the worst setups for student seating in the country. -

I understand that we need to have higher standards, but wouldn't that just further the divide between the best and worst schools. I think it'd be better if the conference pushed for higher quality opponents, trying to get more fans interested at the same time. If a team can't measure up they shouldn't be in the conference. There has been talk in the past about how to make the league stronger, punishing members for not holding their own. I like the idea that if your RPI is above 200, you don't get to share in tournament revenue. I knew that there was a disrepancy between the 2 divsions but did not expect it to be this large. -
Being in the MAC, I doubt it will help very much. It can't hurt though.

My only question........is this you?I'm here to set the record straight and defend K E N T's honor1. Our student section far from sucks, we fill up 2 large sections directly behind both hoops (Zips fans who have been to the M.A.C. Center can attest this, don't try and say otherwise)2. Yea, I'm sure you'll all hate me just for being here3. What the "rowdies" section needs is to have longer pull out bleachers. I was stunned the first time at the JAR when I saw the limited space they give students.4. You have us beat on organized group, that still hasn't stopped many factions in our student section from getting together and being pretty creative.I offer constructive criticism...though I'm not sure what to expect.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gN9jJ4kzoqg

Wow there are so many good thoughts in this, I'm sure I'll forget to mention some things...First off, I like the band where they are. They are cheering at least as much as the rowdies (don't get me wrong I sit right next to them so I should know) and I think they sound great. I haven't heard any other MAC bands sound as good as them. If we had an overwhelming number of devoted fans it would be different. Suggesting that we should move the band so we can let their music resonate of the back of their empty seats is foolish. I'd rather we made it mandatory for students to sit in either the lower bleacher sections or a section behind the basket. That would keep students in the same area and enhance the energy level. If students have a guest who wants to sit with them...let them... but in the expanded student section. Could even keep the lower bleachers Rowdy only. I used to be one of the students who would sit with my non-rowdy friends off in the side bleachers, and there are lots of students who just need a little encouragement to get involved. I don't think the band should be messed with...Next, I was one of those other fans who made a trip to Buffalo. Personally, I thought the Bulls student section was great, Enough said. There is a different buzz when in comes to Akron basketball and Soccer. Being nationally ranked will do that. If we can convince the soccer rowdies that cheering on the basketball team is just as much fun (in my opinion more fun) as cheering on soccer, there's no reason why they won't come back. A lot of it probably has to do with the student seating. Maybe we should turn one end into an artificial grass berm.Lastly, I'm two hours away from the University on breaks as well. When home I have an opportunity to visit the people who I don't see for months at a time. I have a difficult time feeling great about leaving two or three times a week to drive back to school where Akron is taking on the Girl Scouts of America. I don't have a problem with it being worth points, but it'd be nice if it was worth less points. I'm sure many other students are in similar positions, and when the MAC conference season rolls around there should be less snag. PS. VMD we're probably in the same neighborhood (literally). Next year maybe we can work something out with rides to a few of the games.Lets go zips! Beat the bulls

ZipsClips (Sounds like a place where I definitely don't want to get my hair cut.)ZipsVision (Sounds like a place where I definitely don't want to get my eyes checked.)RooTube (Subconsciously stolen)
I agree...Sideline Reporter Fail or something along those lines. I am starting a Zip fan video channel on there and im going to favorite all other fan videos (and download and back them up) and upload other ones i can get my hands on so we can preserve the Zips stuff on youtube. I have always thought that if the athletics department would upload highlights (like that crazy conyers dunk earlier this season) they could get some good publicity/new fans. And all just by using a free website like youtube.Anyone have any good ideas for the channel's name? "ZipsVids" "AkronZipsTube" ...?I think the best way to get this video a lot of hits is to post it a second time with the title "reporter fail" or "fail sideline" but something with the word fail because the fail thing has a big following and if you are ever bored with nothing better to do then you can entertain yourself for hours just going to youtube and typing in "fail" -
Was that the pass where Darryl Roberts tripped? I agree with the comment about the 30-foot three pointer at the end. It looked as though he had time to make a move at the basket, at least making the shot a little easier.
McNees went Freddy Brown, tossing a bullet pass to absolutely no one with 30-something seconds remaining in regulation. We were in the driver's seat and it was a totally unforced error. It very easily could have cost us the game. He also hoisted an unnecessary 30-foot three pointer in OT with way too much time left on the clock. It too could have cost us the game.McNees has his strengths and his weaknesses. Being the off guard is his strength. Being the point guard in a tight game is not his strength. What's the stat that quantifies late game hyperactivity? If you figure it out, let me know. Please call it "The Ali Kart Percentage."Hopefully this quiets the McNeese detractors out there. Once you get a good sample size going of a few games or more, patterns emerge and you can see who the most reliable overall players are. -
Did you get a mention in Rasors blog RootforRoo44? Blog
From our perspective upstairs, the "slick back dark haired ref" was the one who was making all the bad calls against the Zips and swallowing his whistle at the other end of the court. He's the one who should be removed from the court by the police officer for impersonating an impartial ref.
I love how the ref that was 40 feet away made the call but that slick back dark haired ref couldn't make the call when it was right in front of him. That guy is a joke. The North side rowdies were booing him and he went to the police officer during a timeout in the first half and told her that he would have a few of us thrown out if we continued. I know this because an usher came over and spoke with me about it. I actually spoke with that officer following the game and she said that he actually wanted the entire section cleared if they couldnt calm us down. Now THAT is getting in a refs head.
To say nothing of that insane call by the refs that blew the whistle for no reason, that was game over at that point if that didn't happen.
Yes we got lucky they traveled, but we deserved to win that game we led for most of it...just had some poor play calling and shot choices at the endLucky, lucky, lucky win - but a win! -
At least he didn't go to Can'tIf he was playing for us this year we would have a shot at the sweet 16. You heard it here first. Someone that gives us another 15 or 20 points a game with great passing ability. Please, just give us one of those. And only Ohio, Loyola and Cant offered him a scholarship. Seems to me he slipped thru the cracks. NBA talk aside, he is certainly talented enough to play for any college team.
