  1. He mentioned the facilities, the coach being a former NFL receivers coach, all the starting WR's graduating. Full ride and able to commute. Family can come watch easily. Not entirely true. Rewing a few months... It's still not an entirely done deal. But since it's being made public, that's different. There are things in the works that just can't be thrown out on a forum like this. In football and in other sports. I don't talk about that stuff outside the team.
  2. My sons are teammates of his, and I've had to bite my lip for a long time over this. It hurts, I'm glad it's over now You don't know how hard that was to keep quiet about. It's all true. The sweater vest was in town at least twice. We could have seen him on TV this year, but the annual Wadsworth-Medina broadcast got pulled this year because we beat the crap out of them the past couple years. So no TV for us.
  3. VERY interested.I've been trying to get the graphics departments and GoZips people to make wallpapers for years. No reply.
  4. Just so they have the pole vault in Cleveland.
  5. Oh you guys are being silly.I mean, who really wants to buy a men's polo shirt? Besides me?
  6. So a career record of 28-36 is a "strange intellectual gyration". I'm sorry I just don't think that's acceptable. If you want to see "strange gyrations", watch our passes.
  7. A new Spin? What's wrong with the old one?
  8. You're right. oops
  9. I think Akron will win a game, even though Cleveland has more chances. The Zips get EMich, the Browns are going to get owned by the freakin Lions. They can't even find the end zone against a starting defense. The Browns looked good in the second half of the pre-season games, it's a shame the NFL doesn't have JV squads.Of all years to not play Miami OHHH....
  10. Let's look over the numbers:JD took over the team in 2004, and had one good year in 2005. That wasn't his team. That was still Lee Owens' team.Since then, Akron has been 5-7, 4-8, 5-7, and 1-3. 15-25 in that time. If you count his record since he started, you're looking at 28-36. He only has one player in the NFL that he recruited. Reggie Corner. Though gone since 2003, Lee still has Alleman, Blackburn, Frye, Hixon, and Smith. (Taylor would be Faust's recruit).
  11. Well, you don't just build a new building, put the players from the RB recruiting era in it, and become world beaters overnight. It's going to take a few years before we see the benefits. In basketball, that's not as big a deal. Why? The 64 team NCAA Tournament. Just win the MAC Tourney, and you are in The Show. If there's an announcement for a new building soon, that helps. The Zips have a track record in the MAC, and a true center. Soccer, yes, need a new stadium. For the fans, and for the program. But we're a top 10 team and put players in the MLS. Recruits come here.
  12. Interesting question. I follow four sports, don't know much about the rest. The men's basketball team could grow to that point one day. Maybe soon. The men's soccer team already has. In fact I can't get excited about watching them play the bottom half of ANY conference.Baseball, football, long way to go. The football staff has the tools to do some serious recruiting now, no more excuses.
  13. The Zips club hockey team played their opener tonight.Check them out at www2.uakron.edu/icehockey/ (when the websites are up and running). They were pretty competitive last year, until the rest of the season was canceled for some reason.
  14. Because the Can't State alumnus are still peddling at Jacobs Field for another couple weeks...
  15. They say everything happens in threes...Maybe that's it.
  16. -Stadium Staff/University- don't jack up the ticket prices to the prime games. Nothing says "money grubber" quite like that.
  17. My biggest concern is players and coaches dropping like flies. The 2006 Cincinnati Bengals are looking at the Zips saying "That team's a mess".Whether the NCAA steps in, or the school just flushes the staff and starts over, this isn't going to end well.
  18. The next Cincinnati Bearcats. I like your thinking. With enrollment growing every year, several sports titling in the MAC, with continued growth why not build toward that?
  19. I thought so!!!! He couldn't throw a spiral in the second half to save his life and that took us right out of the game.
  20. I tell you what, a LOT of people are turned off by the school jacking up the prices for the Indiana and Can't State games. And to consider Indiana a "Big Ten" team, please. Technically it is. But not quite the Big Ten we want to see...
  21. Carlton Jackson DOH!!!
  22. Have you seen the estimates on the needed maintenance and refurb to the Rubber Bowl? Not to mention the sponsorships?
  23. I see your point, been there too.But you gotta admit, it's awful hard to recruit a BCS quality player to play in a sewer with no hot water in the showers in November and nails on the wall for lockers. Where you practice outside in November.Like I said, it's all about perception. Building in OSU's shadow is hard enough, let alone trying to sell THOSE facilities...IMO we overachieved in 2005, with the Spread O and the 3-3-5 D and a wing and (answered) prayers. And catching lightning in the bottle is harder the second time. You gotta change how you are percieved before you can recruit. And it's all paying off already.
  24. No, Jac-a## lost it for us.Was Rogers hurt in the second half? He couldn't throw a spiral, something was wrong.
  25. We need a little more depth at QB before we start putting them in that situation...
