Toledo just put 7 on tOSU. Tied the game up

He left the game with "right latissimus discomfort". I'm no doctor but looking where it's at, it's not something a pitcher wants in his contract year.

J.T. Is pitching for the Pirates tonight, the game is on Fox, the main one (channel 8 in Zip Country

IMO it's a hotbed of high school football, pro football, and one college. I can see it in a way, the Bengals lost three Super Bowls, the Browns haven't made it. Then there's a top ten college program (the only one that gets ranked most weeks), with the name "Ohio" that everybody can get behind, and wins national championships. Five thus far. I can see that being popular, and I can see how fans from the other dozen colleges that play football shrug and wonder why. That's how I was raised, my parents were from central Ohio.

Truth. You brought up the bigger problem that I've been noticing looking at population loss in Rust Belt Ohio. This is a state with ten D1 universities, a total of fourteen public universities. College enrollment is dropping. Akron has two other D1 universities within a half hour (with me driving) and another one within an hour. I don't want to restart the consolidation topic but if you're going to discuss upgrading the football program you might want to look at the region. How many college fans living in this saturated market are migrating south or west and leaving their snow shovels behind? The popularity of college football in Ohio outside of 411 Woodie Hayes Drive is baaaad. The MAC averaged 15,333 fans per game, worst in the FBS. Ten FCS programs drew better (none in Ohio BTW). It's a catch 22. You can put together a really nice season and play in a bowl game, but the public sees you getting smoked by a couple B10 behemoths. Or try to make up those seven figures through professional marketing (bwaaa ha ha ha ha ha) and winning games. Neither is guaranteed to work.

I have Balls and Butfalo circled on my calendar.

Game 1: SFU @ Akron ZIPS - Score Prediction (POLL)

See also military boot camp. It worked well for Woodie Hayes and Bobby Knight, to name a few. My high school football coach left a profound impression on me. -
Building a football roster, basically from scratch at several positions, is not going to happen overnight. Especially where the new coaching staff and scouting staff have to come together with a short calendar compared to the 127 other FCS programs who had months longer to recruit, sign, and play the transfer portal. This is NOT going to be an easy season. That said, with camp and practices and games under their feet, adjustments made, we should be knocking off MAC fodder by the end of the season. And have a crystal clear vision going into the next recruiting cycle, which has just started.

I picked two. Explain that? Too many variables. New coaching staff (thankfully). New players brought in. New products in the team shop. I was joking about the new products... -
The Zips Club Hockey team released their schedule, first home game is September 16 against Dayton at Center Ice, 8319 Port Jackson Ave NW, North Canton, OH This is the fall schedule, they must be playing split seasons now. I haven't been able to go for several years, but plan on making some games this season.

I raced online for years, ran several series. Dirt late models, pavement lates, We used “NASCAR Legends” as street stocks. We also ran old school offline (against the AI) NASCAR Cup. iRenting I mean iRacing had all the servers shut down and I got out. I still race against the AI every week. We miss the good old days, never a dull moment in the chat room between races, haven’t laughed like that since.

He needs out of there. The Pirates are hitting .220 as a team and are almost last in run support. His ERA is right at the MLB average. Good K/BB ratio. At 28, this is where pitchers usually peak. #WeWillSee

Basketball practice facility (and more) coming
Spin replied to jupitertoo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
We’ve spent a lot of time at the CCC. Both as a customer back in the Canton Invaders days (great times, won a lot of titles) and recently covering medical there, watched lots of Canton Charge games (several are on the Cavs now). Arena football. Harlem Globetrotters. Concerts. High school games. Then you look around and see Erie, Youngstown, Wheeling, Toledo, Ft. Wayne, even Huntington, Steubenville, Wooster, and Marion having arenas, it doesn’t make sense. Is Akron the largest city/market without one? Where can you see a concert in Akron? I guess you can count Blossom if you want. It’s kind of a “tweener” between Summit, Cuyahoga, and Medina counties, and isn’t convenient for anyone. Now if the University builds an arena, look at what they could use it for, between games. Look at the Wolstein Center. They of course have the Vikings basketball, even though they curtain off most of it because they can’t draw flies. CSU hosted the Crunch indoor soccer team and broke league attendance records and won championships. They now have the Cavs minor league team. It’s revenue for the university. Heck if Wooster can have a hockey team for 16 years and counting, Akron can support an arena. -
There's been a JT Brubaker sighting. He made the SportsCenter Top Ten Plays, sort of. OK it was an outfielder making a great catch, but when you play for the Pirates, you take what you can get...

Hoooooooly Mackeral, Andy!!! (I hope there are other Hoolihan and Big Chuck fans here?) Coach Beals has a 568-460-1 record, 325-258-1 with tOSU (133-125 in B10 with 2 conference champs). He has experience building college baseball programs in the snow belt and has connections. Charles Guthrie means business. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

Now we just need a couple thousand fans to join us.

I thought that for a long time. But there are vastly different dynamics between college basketball and college football. In basketball you can catch lightening in a bottle, develop a couple players into stars, and make a run. See also Cleveland State. In football you need 20-30 talented gifted kids to smell a big bowl game, let alone make a playoff run. Thats why the highly ranked football schools should break off into their own division. Or jettison the NCAA altogether and go rogue. The networks would be fighting each other for the new league, fat contracts in hand. My question is how long will the B10’s hold onto the Indianas and Minnesotas in their new world? Programs not in media markets and no real legacy of doing anything the past, oh, 50 years? How long before they get left behind? I’d prefer they put the top 32 programs into a super league for schools with a ghost of a chance of winning, the biggest budget big NIL programs, and let the semi-pros eat. Then the rest can put together a real playoff, using the bowl games along the way, and let college football be college football.

We’ll so much for that idea… 😐
