  1. Dang I could have caught that. And I haven't played since 1983...
  2. Watching basketball, lost to OSwho by 1.
  3. I think we had more fans last week
  4. Dang…
  5. .3 to score…
  6. One more stop…
  7. Wasn’t expecting this tonight…
  8. There are high school football teams a few miles from The Dialer that draw better than the Zips. IIRC there were college football games at the HoF that drew 30k. I saw the Cleveland Force draw bigger numbers for exhibition outdoor soccer games, trying to get into an outdoor league, and a lot more people than were there Saturday night. What held him back from moving outdoors was the artificial turf. The Force had quite a few home sell outs (18,000+) for human pinball (indoor soccer) (in Summit County). It's gotta be entertaining, competitive, and have a solid marketing effort. All of which costs money (I'm not holding my breath).
  9. Point is Ohio State bit it taking a chance on highly talented players with a past (Maurice Claurett). We saw the Browns dump Odell. Sometimes the kid can clean it up and see the big picture. Sometimes not. But their fans are having a hell of a lot more fun than we are. I'm not saying go full Al Davis/Oakland Raiders, but OTOH Case isn't exactly selling out.
  10. The one story kind of reminds me of what the Cleveland Browns just went through. In their case they seem to be playing better without the distractions. I doubt that's possible in college basketball...
  11. If I were AD, at this point I would want players who can put the football team on the map. You do that by winning games, winning conference games, winning records in the MAC, and eventually winning games against famous P5 programs. That is the only thing that will put Akron on the map in Ohio State's shadow. If (and that's a big IF) that were established, butts in the stands, football fans flipping over to Zips football on the tube, THEN we can aspire to Notre Dame GPA numbers. But nobody is tuning in to CWRU football to see who the brightest football player is.
  12. Warn us before you guys have a flop out. please.
  13. That’s what we were in for if we kept Coach Tom. Now we see how many of his recruits fit the new coaches system. We’re starting from scratch. Again.
  14. Im out of likes, but man this post deserves one…
  15. I agreed the team needed a rebuild after Milwe got done with it. Hindsight is 20/20 but cleaning house and playing underclassmen during the rebuild was a baaaad idea in a school trying to be relevant and build a fan base in football country. Even a strong fan base would be challenged during a ground-up rebuild. A bigger mistake was ignoring the transfer pool during the rebuild. Cutting Milwe’s players while replacing them with better would have been a great idea. Win some games, show some improvement, and the fan base would have followed.
  16. That and we have to pay him anyhow. I'm kind of curious how this team of underclassmen grow. In professional sports they call this an "expansion team". Then my left brain tells my right brain to STFU.
  17. No, I was watching in the stands, fingers got too cold to type on the phone screen. LOL.
  18. Did you see where they spotted it for Balls to take over???
  19. Looked like he should get an assist…
  20. NO. They're too good at basketball.
  21. Either would look good right now…
  22. I'll pay to see that. You know.
  23. They are playing fall ball. The only way you'd know is if you checked Twitter, which I don't have a habit of doing very often. I'm more a Facebook guy, but there's no updates there since July.
  24. I brought up on another thread how much fun it was to watch the Akron Rubberducks win the Eastern League championship a few weeks ago. The crowd went crazy, was still there an hour after the game was over. We'll never forget it. There's something to be said about staying in your lane. I wouldn't look out my window if the Ducks were playing the NY Yankees across from my house. I'm starting to feel the same way about the Zips. I'd love to see the Zips play top level ball. But with the budget crunches the past few years and the layoffs, the dropped athletic programs, I don't see the University pulling that off.
  25. We keep hiring coaches who would do well if Akron was playing at their appropriate level. By appropriate, I mean other programs with the same resources UA has. Im not an elitist. I enjoyed watching the Rubber Ducks win the league championship (that many here would laugh at) a lot more than watching the cheapass Indians try to compete in MLB. Those of us who were at that game will never forget it. YMMV. It was entertaining to see the Canton Charge play in their league. I don’t want to see them play the Lakers. It is what it is.
