  1. Was it "foolish" to expect Zeke to start? Yes, you can never predict what will happen, but unless he's not 100%, Noah will be a starter. I think he, Antino, and Williams will all get heavy PT next season, and that we'll all thoroughly enjoy having the three of them.
  2. LINK He had offers from Maryland, Arizona State, Virginia Tech, and Louisiana Tech. He'll arrive in Buffalo next year alongside Torian Graham, who had an impressive list of offers as well.
  3. Again, I'm not sure why this has become Noah vs Antino. Having both young, talented PGs is going to make for a lot of fun the next three years. Tell Antino we believe in him this week! :-)
  4. If Noah is 100% healthy, he's the starter. It is possible they could both start and/or play a ton of minutes together, but Noah will be a 4 year starter.
  5. Of course, Noah's adverse set of conditions included starting from day one (and playing 30 MPG) as a true freshman point guard on a team that was expected to win the division and lost their leader and best player after 2 games. He didn't have an opportunity to get his feet wet - he was thrown to the fire, and responded wonderfully.I'm beating a dead horse here but we should all be thrilled to have both. Together - Noah starting, Antino as 6th man - they are going to (along with Josh Williams) form of one, if not the best backcourt in the league.
  6. 3rd best rebounder on the team this year, 2nd best on the current active roster with Pat out.
  7. I am actually Keith Dambrot. Damnit, you caught me!
  8. Please don't come at me with knowledge of the game talk if you're continuing to insist that Keith Dambrot doesn't decide substitutions. Again, Walters played fantastic defense on Brown. Juice hit a fadeaway jumper with a hand in his face. Nobody on the roster would have done more, because it was excellent D. As for him being on the floor, Jackson wasn't ready to play 30 minutes. He asked out of the game several times. This is well documented in the Toledo thread. As for Jake, he and Reggie are pretty similar to me. Both have trouble creating their own shot, both can heat up fast, and both stretch the defense. Reggie is a little better defensively, but Jake is a better rebounder, which might explain his extra minutes. He's third on the team behind Pat and Kwan (only 1 less per game than Pat). With Tree long gone, Pat out, and Big Dog easily winded, Coach D needs any rebounding help he can get.
  9. Welcome to Zips Nation. - Reggie McAdams is averaging 17 minutes per game this season. He played 28 last night. They also had to account for Deji, Jake, and Big Dog being in foul trouble and not getting a chance to give Reggie a breather. When he was pulled last night they were giving him that short breather before putting him in for the end of the game. When you have eight players, you have no choice but to make sure you're getting them these quick breaks. There was no issue with the substitutions last night. - Jake and Reggie have both received similar playing time all season and will continue to do so. It's cliche but it's true - Jake does a lot that doesn't show up in a box score. And, again, we have 8 guys - they are all going to play. - Coach Dambrot makes the final call on everything. He will consider the opinions of his assistants, as every coach in the world does, but he makes the final call. If you've heard otherwise, you've received bad information. - I'm not sure why anyone is still mad about Walters on Brown vs Toledo. Antino was gassed and Walters played GREAT defense. Brown hit an incredible shot. Just give him his props. - Punctuation - it's your friend!
  10. I'm not sure why the Robotham vs Jackson thing is a thing now. Maybe we have some more player family members aboard :-) I don't think there's any chance Noah doesn't start next year and beyond if he isn't healthy. Like I've said before, I think the coaches are higher on him than any player they've had since Zeke. The fact that Antino is good enough to start is a great "problem" to have. I think Antino will play the Diggs role as the first guy off of the bench that plays just as much as the starters and may even be on the floor when the game ends. The bottom line is that with Noah Robotham, Antino Jackson, and Josh Williams, the Zips should be loaded at guard for the next several years. If Agba and/or Olojapoke can contribute off the bench next year and the rest f our players develop nicely over the summer, we could be downright scary next year. Very exciting to think about!
  11. He probably won't send immature PMs though ;-)
  12. Two polls at the top - one related to the Zips, one picking the Tournament Champion. Here's my picks: 1st Round Bowling Green over Ball State Western Michigan over Ohio Akron over Northern Illinois Eastern Michigan over Miami 2nd Round Akron over Western Michigan Bowling Green over Eastern Michigan Quarterfinals Akron over Can't State Toledo over Bowling Green Semifinals Buffalo over Akron Toledo over Central Michigan Finals Toledo over Buffalo
  13. - Northern Illinois won the only matchup between the two this year, a 64-61 win in Dekalb. - The Huskies come into Monday riding a 4 game win streak with victories over Toledo, Central Michigan, Western Michigan, and Ball State. - Before that win streak, NIU lost 10 of their previous 13 games. - NIU is 4-5 on the road in conference play this year. - The Zips last loss to NIU at home came on February 12th, 2008.
  14. Noah and Antino are completely different players. Both are worthy of starting. However, Noah will be the starter...I can tell you that with certainty. But I think the two playing against each other in practice will be a wonderful, wonderful thing. With the addition of Josh Williams next year, we're going to have a TON of talent at the guard position.
  15. Updated - NIU Monday
  16. I love Antino, but the only way he starts over Noah is if Noah isn't ready to go physically - and he should be. I don't think people realize how high the team is on Noah.
  17. Frustration? And Deji had a clean drive to the lane - can't stop playing your game.
  18. I'm not sure how. Inconsistent all game, per the usual. Not blaming the loss on it, but it's rarely good, which is frustrating.
  19. On Joe's Twitter account he said the coach said he might try to play Monday, not tonight.
  20. I think Antino will be a vital part of this team moving forward. I just think he'll play the 6th man/energy role. Noah is better overall and Josh Williams is projected to be better (and is more of a combo guard than Antino), which is why I mentioned those two. We should have really, really good guard play for the foreseeable future, which is very exciting.
  21. You certainly are. With all due respect, unless you're an elite high school basketball player, I don't think the team cares (just as they don't care what I think). It matters to recruits. That's well-documented. And ANYTHING, big or small, that assists us in getting recruits is good with me.
  22. Bingo. Noah, Antino, Agba, Williams, etc have all been quoted as saying it meant something to them when considering schools. I get that Tourney runs are the bigger goal but I'm not sure why people can't just take pride in such a unique record.
  23. I'm disappointed but not surprised by some of the sarcasm and negativity. For one, everyone is frustrated - we've had a lot of ups and downs, but it's been a long time since we've lost like this. It's still difficult to see though - I guess you find out more about folks when things are bad than when things are good. It's interesting to me that time and time again, we've heard recruits talk about how much the stability of the coaching staff has factored into their decisions to commit. And time and time again, we've seen how the 20 wins streak catches a recruits attention when deciding where to commit. That doesn't mean that the coaches are beyond criticism - every coach in America is - but I think sometimes we get spoiled by what we've had. I wouldn't trade our coaching staff for anyone else's in the conference. As frustrating as this year has been (and it's been really bad at times), I have to take a step back sometimes and look at the situation. Our MAC POY candidate got suspended after 2 games, forcing a sophomore (Cheatham) who played 9 minutes per game last season into the starting five. Treadwell being out has severely limited the impact of Kretzer/McAdams, who relied on Tree down low to get good looks. All three of our point guards are true freshman - one a walk-on - and the best one tore his ACL, forcing a the backup who was used to 15 minutes per game to go 30+. Of our 12 players that play, 7 of them are freshmen or sophomores. As someone else pointed out, everything that could go wrong has and it appears our young team has simply run out of gas. With that said, I'm excited for next season. Noah was a steal of a recruit, and pairing him with Josh Williams should give us one of the best (and youngest) backcourts in the league. The other possible play-right-away recruit - Peter Agba - has been compared to Tree when Tree was his age. Kwan, Antino, Aaron, B.J., Malcolm, and Isaiah will get another offseason in the weight room. And, with apologies to Nyles, we're really only losing Deji's impact on the court. This sucks, no way to change that, but it's still damn good to be an Akron Zip. Here's to a miracle this coming week and, if not, getting back to Saturday night at The Q in 2016. Go Zips!
  24. He is not a #TeamOhio guy at all.
