  1. Should we strive for a P5 conference? Absolutely. Is it realistic? No. UConn has won the National Championships in Men's basketball the same amount of times as we have made the NCAA tournament and they can't find a home in a P5 conference. I'd love to move to the AAC if they lose a couple teams or look to expand. But we still need to raise our profile for that to be a possible option. Football needs to continue to improve and for men's basketball, that means consistent NCAA appearances and victories. That's why I want us to go out and schedule with an at-large bid in mind. It's not to be negative, it's just that I want to see the program take the next step. The "win three at the Q" attitude just doesn't fit for a program ultimately seeking a P5 conference.
  2. Crazy. That is exactly what I told you when you first called the Zips poisonous.
  3. To summarize, ACC schools do not return Akron's call, turn them down if they do, and a loss to Akron could result in the firing of their head coach. Despite that, these schools were close to inviting Akron to join their conference? We're "idiots" not to believe that?
  4. So, the majority of the focus should be on what exactly?
  5. Leonard Hamilton had just finished his 6th season at FSU without having made the NCAA tourney, and it was the Akron loss that almost lost him his job? They could overlook the other losses in his tenure to Boston, Texas A&M Corpus Christi, Kent State, FIU, and Cleveland State, but Akron is where they draw the line? Do you actually believe this garbage? If you can't even convince yourself that you are worthy of playing quality teams, how do you expect to convince a quality team that they should play Akron?
  6. Top programs lose OOC home games all the time to mid majors. Sure, fans are upset at the time but a few a days later there is a new game. Win and all is right with the world. People get over it. This board does the same thing. There not devastating blows by any means. Has a lost to Akron cost one of our OOC opponents a tourney bid in the past? So, what really is the risk? Just as an example, I know that Dayton seeks out teams that are projected to win there conference for their buy games. Losing to a Chattanooga didn't crush their season. Maybe they would schedule a buy game with us, maybe not. Stay in the A10 and give VCU a call. They've played Toledo and Buffalo in buy games in the past two years. It doesn't need to be a "blue blood" program.
  7. Coming off a year in the Top 50 RPI, where the committee chairman once again stressed the importance of Top 50 wins, it's somehow tougher to schedule? Come on now. We can actually sell that these other teams have something to gain by playing us. It would be one thing if we were a 100+ RPI team, but a home loss to a Top 50 team isn't "poison" to a teams resume.
  8. It really doesn't matter what the TeamRankings.com formula thinks. According to the NCAA/RPI, Akron had the #203 Non-Conf SOS, while Buffalo had the #84. It needs to improve, big time.
  9. Valpo, Monmouth, and St Bona are all 1 seeds. St. Marys, San Diego St, and BYU are all 2 seeds. That's 6 of 8 on the top two lines from non-P5 schools.
  10. There still would have been more than 3 spots left to filled. For instance, both Purdue/Michigan State and Texas A&M/Kentucky who are playing now would have been included as 4 of the 33 teams. 2 of them will earn auto-bids, so that frees up 2 more at large spots. Similar story for the Big 12 and ACC championship yesterday.
  11. The season is over four months long. The final two days doesn't drastically change things.
  12. ESPN created the BPI a couple years ago in response to the growing popularity in other metrics like KenPom and Sagarin. They reference it for self-promotion.
  13. I was looking at Warren Nolan. http://warrennolan.com/basketball/2016/sos RPIForecast has their "Live RPI" SOS at #164 as well. http://www.rpiforecast.com/live-rpi.html The official NCAA rankings had them at #173 through games played yesterday. https://rpiarchive.ncaa.org/Stats%20Library/Games%20thru%20March%208%20-%20Nitty%20Gritty.pdf
  14. Never claimed otherwise. Neither looks good on a resume. Monmouth SOS is actually 164 compared to Akron's 123, so not as big difference. Monmouth has the two good wins, which is why there in the discussion.
  15. That sounds great, but it really only matters what the committee thinks. Spin it how you want, but at the end of the day, the committee is going to view those as 6 bad losses as they have in the past.
  16. I never said they didn't. They have 2 good wins, we have 0. They have 3 bad losses, we have 6. If you want to know why Monmouth is in the discussion and Akron is nowhere to be found, the answer is right in front of you.
  17. You need top 50 wins if you want to get into the discussion and Akron has none. There's also the 6 100+ RPI losses. Monmouth has more good wins and less bad losses.
  18. RPIforecast now has us at 24 if we win out, and 35 if win out and lose in the MAC championship. I'd imagine there will be a lot of variation with those projections with conference tournaments and matchups not set.
  19. Not necessarily. It's supply and demand. There's schools in those conferences that have much better attendance than most P5 schools. They'll pay just as much, if not more than some of the P5 schools because that is what the market dictates.
  20. Even conferences like the MWC and A10 will payout between 80-110k, For Akron, 35-60k is the range I have heard depending on the opponent, but that was from a few years back.
  21. I have posted the NCAA rules on this and it won't count as redshirt. Not sure what more you need. KD isn't stupid and KD has never mentioned a plan to redshirt him. There are plenty of reasons to potentially explain his lack of playing time. Not sure why people insist on one that for all intents and purposes, isn't possible under NCAA rules.
  22. A waiver could be granted in that case if Utomi was the one who was injured. He was not. Besides, Utomi also played at the end of the Charleston Southern game as well.
  23. No, a redshirt doesn't count as a season of competition. That's the entire point of a redshirt.
  24. Did I miss KD saying that Daniels would redshirt? Not sure how this became about trusting KD on his knowledge rules. Nothing was in response to KD, just other posters on this board.
