  1. The additional operational costs, but a tenant would not cover the additional capital expenditures needed to construct an arena capable of hosting such events. That doesn't happen.
  2. Is the state of Ohio giving us funding to build such a facility? That's pretty important variable. I have my doubts.
  3. The primary investor is the University of Akron, particularly the men's basketball program as they would be the primary reason for such a facility. Anyone posting on this message board should be able to look at it from that perspective, especially a CPA. Whether or not a team could make it in the area is not the discussion here. Whether UA should invest additional money in a facility to host such events is what is being discussed. IMO, there are a lot better and more direct ways for the university to invest its money.
  4. It would cost more money to build an arena capable of hosting such events than one for basketball only. You seem to be forgetting that. That rent really isn't profit until you can recover those initial costs. It's a poor investment, IMO.
  5. You obviously missed the point. It's not matter of if a minor league team can turn a profit, it would be a matter of if Akron can make a big enough profit off of renting the facility to those teams to justify the extra $$$ it would take to build an arena capable of hosting those events.
  6. I didn't say you couldn't make a profit off those sports, there's just very little profit to be made. Yes the Bombers folded, but when Wright State was approached by the Gems, they turned them down. As for the practice facility, that was funded through private donations, not monster truck show revenue. But really that is missing the point. Wright State had a facility capable of hosting those events in place, we don't. Is it worth the additional costs for those capabilities? I don't thinks so.
  7. George Mason is a solid add. Two years ago they were an at-large team, so there is more to them than 1 final four. Even though they haven't been as good the past two years, they still managed to win 20+ games in each of those years.
  8. That is a product of the pod system, which tries to keep the higher seeds close to home. It's been around for about a decade now.
  9. Yes, you could use a new arena for arena football, minor league hockey, indoor soccer, etc., but that doesn't mean you are going to make any money off of it. Wright State (Nutter Center) used to host those sports, but doesn't any longer because it didn't make financial sense and took away from the basketball team. There's just not that much interest for those sports that it is going to make financial sense for a new arena to accommodate them.
  10. The LaSalle/Boise winner needed to go to a site that played Fri/Sun, which would have been the only reason they would have switched us if that really is the case.
  11. Thanks, but I didn't say anything about being or not being an NCAA power either.
  12. Yes, all the time. It was two counts of DUI, not two separate instances.
  13. Richmond is not a Top 50 RPI team.
  14. Not sure what that article has to do with anything, but Tennessee Tech would not be considered a traditional power in women's basketball. Two NCAA appearances in the past 20 years, with the latest in 2000. Their not exactly the program you were describing.
  15. I think you're mixing up Tennessee Tech with Middle Tennessee State.
  16. We would still be one short with Forsythe taking up a scholarship next season.
  17. XU really cooled on him back in July. It was us and Can't State there at the end.
  18. That was also the case when he originally decided to go to West Virginia, which would be the issue for the NCAA. How has the situation changed since then? That's what ultimately will decide the success of the waiver.
  19. Just ORU. Valpo returned the game a couple years ago.
  20. You can only play in the same MTE once every four years, so that isn't going to happen.
  21. Billy Baron, whose father was fired at Rhode Island, has been granted a waiver to be immediately eligible to play at Cansius. It's time to put this conspiracy theory to rest.
  22. Forsythe would still need to get permission from WVU in order to use a one-year transfer exception. Considering he didn't go through the proper channels during the transfer process to begin with, it would seem to hurt the likelihood of that happening.
  23. Doesn't really matter who owns it. Half the Big East schools use arenas they don't own. If the Q was in the Akron, then it might be similar.
  24. Duquesne has their own locker room at the new Consol Energy Center and already plays multiple games a year there. No need for them to build a new arena, they already have one.
