Bowling Green's win is the MAC's gain
zippyman23 replied to psc2009's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Kids pick schools based on the 4-5 years they will be there, and not on the capacity of a program to grow. It wouldn't have made sense for BG to build some 10,000 seat arena, just like it makes little sense for us to build one. Kids don't want to play in front of a bunch of empty seats either. -
2012 offer: SG Tamron Manning
zippyman23 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
Tamron is planning on visiting Akron, Alabama, and Dayton this week. -
Mackey Arena has a circular design as well. http://www.purdue.edu/athletics/facilities...ating_chart.pdf

We can do a lot better than that. I would like to see something a little more modern than the circular dome look that was popular back 50-60's. No doubt that it would be an upgrade over the JAR, but there is no way we would build something like this if we build a new arena.

Akron U hired Charles Thomas to fill the open assistant position voided by Lamont Paris. http://twitter.com/scoopIPS/status/26368945297

Sounds like it is going to be Rice. If nothing else, he will be playing in a better conference. They already have a 4-star SG committed to them for 2011, so Ennis isn't the only one buying what their coach is selling.

We compete for high major recruits all the time. You can tell that by just looking at the recruiting forum. Reality is that when we go head-to-head with a Big East school, we really do not stand much of chance. That pretty much goes for all mid-majors outside of a few exceptions.

What they mean is the last four AT-LARGE teams. This is just another way to screw any possible Mid-Majors that might sneak in, while not touching Northern Arizona or Alcorn State. They don't have the balls to do this to their vaunted automatic qualifiers, a dozen or more of whom are worse than any at-large selection. Am I not correct, that the "bottom-four" at large teams will get stuck with 16 seeds? The bottom four at-large teams will likely be 11-13 seeds, or wherever they would be have been seeded. Then explain why they are being forced to play an extra game -- just to wear themselves out before taking on the BCS Boys? I may be full of Okolehau, but I trust the NCAA Selection Committee about as far as I can throw 'em. Well, if you add 3 teams to the dance, someone is going to have to play an additional game. Might as well include the 3 teams that wouldn't have gotten in otherwise. This only affects the team that would have been the last team in under the old format. And my point is that if anyone is forced to play additional teams, it should be the LOWEST RANKED teams -- not the lowest ranked AT-LARGE teams. As I've been saying, the lowest-seeded at-large team is usually a 12 seed. That leaves about 16 automatic berth conference champions who are lower seeds. Let THEM play in Dayton! They wouldn't have gotten in otherwise, so they are not being forced to play an additional team. They are getting an opportunity to play into the tourney, something that they otherwise would not have had an opportunity to do. There's still 2 play-in games for 16-seeds, which means that ultimately after expansion, the field of 64 has 1 more at large team, and one less automatic bid. It's definitely not screwing over an at-large teams.

Nova is already guaranteed a spot in the Big East if they go FBS. They won't join another conference for football only.
-
This makes complete sense for the Big East. Nova has always had a spot reserved for them in Big East if/when they jump to FBS, since they are already a full member of the Big East. If Nova moves up, it shifts the balance of power in Big East to the football schools since they would no longer be split 50/50 between the basketball and football schools. Much easier to go this route than to add a 17th full member because all schools would have to approve. Adding a football only school like Temple wouldn't sway the balance of power either. Nova is the best option, but I still have trouble seeing Nova making the jump.

A guy taking a better job with much greater upside, and most likely for money doesn't sound like the tip of the iceberg to me. It sounds like every day life to me.

The Prep Champs link is a profile that he created himself. He may feel that he can play the PG, and he probably can get away with it on his high school team, but I don't see that happening on the college level. From the scouts reviews, he appears to more a SF at the moment that needs to develop his handles/shooting to play the SG.
-
I'm still waiting for some information that indicates that there is any chance that our coach would replace his current starting PG, who he obviously trusts to run his offense, is a senior, clearly our floor leader, and has come up big for us in several critical, pressure situations over the last couple of seasons. And we'll replace him and turn the reigns of the team over to a guy who's yet to even wear a Zips uniform? I'm thinking the chances of that happening are pretty remote. I'm not talking about this year. I'm looking ahead to 2011 since this is a thread on a 2011 commit.
-
I still have big concerns with our depth at PG. Unless there are any more changes, Abreau will be the only PG on the roster. Really hope Abreau is the real deal because he is going to have to play a lot.

Getting more athletic kids is great, but the tradeoff is that they are most likely lacking in other areas of their game. If they were complete players, they would be heading off to BCS schools. Now, if they develop their games, in a couple years they can turn out to be the type of player BCS schools are kicking themselves for not recruiting.

I did say Non-BCS. But anyways, nothing is vanishing, "mid-majors" aren't doing enough to get in like they were before. If they do, they will get in.
-
There's no need to prioritize, but if you do, you would put the at-large bid first. Schedule for an at-large and hope you pick some big wins. If not, the MAC tourney will always be there.
-
Even if we played a schedule made by Charlie Coles, 5 losses is about the max you would could have if you want an at-large bid. Mid-major at-large bids are disappearing. They're almost vanished completely. They're not disappearing. The amount of Non-BCS at-large bids doubled last year, and was the most in 5 years.
-
What were his grades like? Was he in danger of being a non-qualifier? All I can think to say is, at least he didn't take his talent to South Beach, that would be formulaic. It was highly unlikely that he was going to qualify.
-
It's still a red shirt. Not all red-shirts get schollys their first season. It happens. KD just wanted him to pay his own way during his red-shirt year since we were out of scholarships at the time.
-
Since we didn't ask Euton to red-shirt, that pretty much tells you that the coaches thought more highly Euton than Black. Just have to wait and see how their respective college careers play out.

The Vegas tourney appears to be set. We will not be playing Indiana State as previously reported. Dec. 21- Arkansas Little-Rock (at Las Vegas) Dec. 22- Stetson (at Las Vegas) Dec. 23- Miami (at Las Vegas) Jan. 3- Oral Roberts (in Akron)
