  1. Students that are downtown on game nights probably aren't students that are interested in the basketball team. Moving things closer to them isn't going to change that. The dorms are still on campus, so yes you will still need to shuttle.
  2. Attendance will likely be about the same regardless of where the new arena is built. Downtown might draw more for the bar crowd, but at the same time you are going to lose those students that don’t want to shuttle over there and back. Not every game is on Saturday night, in fact most aren’t. Location is such a small driver of attendance. There is no magical location that will just solve all our attendance issues.

  4. There are two different waivers in play here. Xavier filed for a medical hardship waiver to get his freshman year of eligibility back and not have it count against his 4 years of competition. That gave Walsh a 5th year of eligibility since he still had 4 years of competiton left. However, that did not reset his 5-year window. Walsh then sat out the 2010-2011 season as a transfer which wouldn't count against his years of competition but doesn't extend that 5-year window. Since Walsh will still have 1 year of competion left after the 2012-2013, he would then have to petition for a second waiver to remove the 5-year rule and allow him to compete in a 6th year. In that petition, he will need to make his case as to why he wasn't able to complete his 4 years of competion in the 5-year window and why it should be extended to 6th year. That's where things become more difficult. It comes back to the year he sat out as a transfer. If Walsh stayed at Xavier, he would have been able to complete his 4 years of competition in that 5-year period. Based on that, the NCAA has previously ruled against allowing an additional year to complete that 4 year of competition because it was not beyond the control of the athlete. The burden of proof would then lie in the hands of Walsh to prove otherwise. I believe Walsh participated in practice during his transfer year, so he wouldn't be able to make the case that his injury would have prohibited from participating in competition even if he was eligible to participate. So it comes down to proving that the transfer was beyond his control, which will be tough thing to do and not something that I would be optimistic about.
  5. You can classify him as whatever you would like at the moment, but he has not been granted a 6th year of eligibility yet. You have 5 years to play 4, so any petition will need to be made after he completes his 5th year. Since you only get one redshirt, its a matter of proving that 2 of those years missed were beyond the players control. The NCAA has previously ruled that missing a year due to transfer does not fall in the category of being beyond the players control. Don't be shocked if he isn't granted a 6th year.
  6. UA will still need to petition for a 6th year and that cannot be done until after the 2012-2013 season. Based on previous NCAA rulings, there is strong possibility that the NCAA won't grant him an additional year.
  7. Arizona is the name being mentioned the most.
  8. Sibert is rumored to be transferring to Dayton. Weatherspoon has tremendous athleticism, but doesn't have much of an offensive game. Not sure who is after him.
  9. Duquesne's men's basketball program also brings in close to $1 million more a year in revenue than we do. Really no need for us to break the bank to secure KD when the only serious interest he has gotten is from a "bad" school. If a good school ever does come around, they will still be able to offer him a lot more than $600K, so it really doesn't help there.
  10. The firing of Everhart was beyond idiotic. As someone who follows A10 basketball, I think Everhart has done a terrific job at what has been historically a terrible basketball school. I believe he interviewed for the Penn State opening last summer and his name is being brought up now for the Kansas State opening. The Duquesne AD is beyond delusional. Probably not going to be a lot of coaches that want that job now.
  11. Doesn't really matter how you try to spin it, winning in the NCAA tournament simply carries more weight. We need to take that next step.
  12. Our OOC schedule last season was fine...we just lost all the games that mattered. BTW - Any talk of a Zips' at-large NCAA bid is valid with Zeke in his Junior and Senior seasons. If anyone says an at-large is not possible, they're a low-aimer. It definitely was an improvement, but still would need to be better if we want to be serious about an at-large bid. Our OOC-SOS was 151st and the MAC drug that down to 180th overall. I think goal should be to have the OOC-SOS in at least the 50-75 range. Just dropping the bottom feeders for some average teams would likely get us under 100. Not too far off.
  13. Sounds like Archie Miller may be the next Dayton coach. Would be an interesting layer to the Dayton/Xavier Rivalry.
  14. Not sure to what extent either party is interested, but Dayton could easily triple his salary. I think he would have a hard time turning down that job if it was offered to him.
  15. KD will stay as long as Zeke is here. He stayed with LeBron then got a better job. Zeke is the ticket to the next level. I highly doubt Zeke will have anything to do with his decision in the event he does get an offer from some other school. He also didn't stay with Lebron at AVSM either.
  16. They don't use that facility for basketball. They play their basketball games at Carver Arena which seats around 11,500. Ahh, well that capacity is what I was expecting. Well, what did they build that new $50-million facility for? It's for women's basketball and volleyball. The men also have practice facilities there.
  17. They don't use that facility for basketball. They play their basketball games at Carver Arena which seats around 11,500.
  18. The game was at the United Center and the crowd was probably about 80% Illinois fans. Not exactly an away game.
  19. This team has some issues.
  20. You're not kidding. I just broke down their OOC schedule. 8 games vs. BCS schools- Seton Hall, California, Georgia, Texas A&M, Maryland, Georgetown, Villanova, Duke 5 games vs. MAC schools- Toledo, Central Michigan, Akron, Northern Illinois, Ohio 1 game vs. Pennsylvania (Ivy)- Big 5 Rivalry game which they play every year. That's pretty crazy. I wouldn't blame Temple fans at all if they viewed us as one of the cupcakes on their schedule.
  21. WE ARE RIVALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We don't even play OSU. We are not rivals by any means.
  22. At what other school would this be noticed? Nearly every school in the country. Are you an Ohio State fan or something? Seriously, not trying to direct hate at you at all, i'm just confused with how you can honestly think at a college sporting event it's alright to have another (especially a rival) team's logo on you. Akron needs to build it's own identity, if someone wont come to something because they are a bigger OSU fan then who cares? I'd rather build something great and have a true fan base that isn't a bunch of front running sheep. I really don't see the big deal in someone wearing an OSU shirt, and I personally hate OSU. It's just a shirt. It happens across the state. We're not rivals with OSU, so it's not like wearing a Can't State shirt.
  23. We just shot the ball unreal from three to begin to the second half. I agree that there are a lot of questions yet to be answered. Breaking it down: First 8-9 Minutes of 2nd half: 8-11 (73%) from 3pt range; Akron +15 Rest of game: 6-25 (24%) from 3pt range; Dayton +23 You can interpret those numbers two different ways. I guess it really just depends on if you are more of glass half full or glass half empty type of person.
  24. Dayton lost seven seniors from last year's team, so a couple of those guys starting haven't got a whole of PT either. They also started a true freshman at point. Inexperienced may be a better way to describe them.
  25. I'm not sure if you guys realize this or not, but the early signing period lasts a whole week, and not just a day.
