I think some of the players will improve, but in general, the players the Zips recruited the past couple years were from the bottom of the pile. Most of them will be relegated to depth options once Bowden pulls in a recruiting class or two.
It's not a big deal. Like others have noted, that thread is moving really quick right now. It's probably not a bad idea to consider switching to a new style if recruiting news keeps pouring in like this.
You're missing the point. While we might have some decent players on our team from past recruiting classes, they won't be the ones leading Akron into better times. Even though the athletic department is too proud for it to happen, I think the Men in Black video is perfect. Most fans would understand it and laugh.
I don't know if Abreu has played Cooper that well or if Cooper is playing that bad. Dambrot should have had Zeke on the inbounds pass. It might not have helped prevent the pile that left the shooter open, but still.
Agreed about the JAR. It looks way better than BGSU's arena. Not a bad showing from the team so far. They need to start putting up some points though. Ohio is struggling to score, but we're not taking advantage.
It's generally a good idea to get a different perspective when doing graduate work. Not everyone wants to live in Akron forever.
Everyone on this board should be excited that someone associated with the University of Akron has the opportunity to play football at a higher level, let alone study at an excellent school (Arizona). He signed a contract to play football for our school until he graduated. He did that. It wasn't a blood contract, people. Be happy for the guy.
Tells us all we need to know about you.
Akron lost to freakin' Gardner-Webb. And you think the national runners-up couldn't have knocked off a 1-11 team that had stopped playing for its coach? That tells us all we need to know about YOU, my deluded friend.
The difference between Div. II (WSU) and I-AA (GW) is pretty huge.
Exactly. As much as I love MJ's résumé, if he doesn't want to be here, I don't want him here.
We need an Akron guy. Is that Winters? Maybe.
We don't need an Akron guy. No Akron guy has been a winner here. We need "THE GUY" to turn around the program. I don't care where he is from.
"THE GUY" is an Akron guy. An Akron guy doesn't have to be an alum or anything. But someone with some ties to the Midwest and a desire to be here would help. The program isn't in good enough shape to be a stepping stone right now. He has to believe in the program/area, not just the opportunity.
In my uninformed opinion, Narduzzi would be a distant 3rd.
I agree. There are way too many instances of "great" BCS coordinators falling on their face once they take over a program that can't sell recruits on BCS bowls and 80,000+ crowds.
Given those three names, I think the best coach for Akron has to be Mike Johnson. He has the most coaching ties, and has the diversity of playing as a professional. Coaching on the west coast doesn't hurt either for recruiting the big name JUCO transfers.
No matter who the head coach is, I think that we will win more than one game next year. With proper coaching, any amount of talent can squeeze out a couple upset wins in the MAC. Ianello was just that bad.
Where do you guys get this information?
Dr. Suess. He's in the english department.
As a student in the English department, I would like to note that there is no Dr. Suess. But really, I am amazed that the English department was ever mentioned on Zips Nation.
Please stop posting about Chryst. There's no way he'd come to Akron. Our best candidate at this point is Winters. Like it or not, we aren't a grade A destination for a first time head coach.
Personally, I still enjoy this info being posted.
That's fair. It makes me happy that a few people enjoy the hard work that goes into the student news organizations on campus. Sorry if I'm a bit jaded.
Sorry, but if we wanted week old news, we could look in local news archives. As a former employee of a mostly student-run UA news organization (The Buchtelite), I appreciate the effort, but The Buchtelite, ZTV, etc. never provide up to date news.
He's "advising" us to take a position coach with no experience running a team or calling plays. That's not encouraging at all.
Anyone in particular?
Taver Johnson. He's the cornerback coach.
Admittedly, Johnson was an assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Miami (Oh) before he became the DB coach at OSU. I still prefer someone with actual head coaching experience though...
A couple people I follow on Twitter that are in the UA athletic department have reported that Chris Jacquemain has died. I checked his Facebook profile and the posts on his wall seem to confirm his death.
Even though he left the Zips program in a bad way, nobody should die this young.
R.I.P.
