Can't is doing our dirty work for us
zestycoyote replied to akronzips71's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
On his live updates, Rasor made a great point. We need to win tonight. If Buffalo beats us, I like their chances against BGSU. That makes the K S U game a must win for us. I don't like those odds. -
That could matter. I feel like all these little things shouldn't make that big a difference though. The stream is better on my MacBook than on my hardwired computer. Both using Firefox/Chrome. So weird.
-
Exact opposite with me. Tonight, they both suck, though Firefox has improved in the second half.
-
Just as bad. It keeps improving for little bits, but it's still pretty unwatchable for me. And I know for a fact that it isn't my connection.
-
It's bad for me too. It seems like whenever the game is played at Akron, the feed sucks. I don't know if it's the school's responsibility or the MAC's, but it is really pretty embarrassing that we can't put together a functional feed.

Holy crap. I was mad initially because ESPN stayed on the FSU-Miami game that was already over instead of going to UA-OU. Then I started watching us pretend to play basketball. Everything has been bad so far. The refs have been bad, but we're even worse. I've lost count how many open 3 shots we've given them. I wonder if they're going to keep hitting them?! Ohio can play defense. We just stand around waiting for them to make it.

I'm not sure what our status is with Kindle or other eBook formats. I'm pretty sure we've done it with some books. I think it'd be cool to have it available digitally, possibly even used as part of a recruiting package to send to recruits...

Thanks for all the feedback! I'll let my boss know that there is demand for an updated version (and I'll mention the hardback as well).

So I'm an intern at The University of Akron Press, and we're thinking about updating Our Boys in Blue and Gold with a new foreword and the addition of the late 2000s up to the Bowden hire. If we did it, we'd try to get Tressel (wrote the originial foreword) and Bowden to sign copies at some type of sporting event. I was wondering if anyone would be interested?

The second half feed is a little choppy
zestycoyote replied to akronzips71's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Why do they even need to mute the feed? I understand there are commercial timeouts, but I would rather hear the commercials than have some dimwit forget to press the 'Sound On' button. -
From Peter King's MMQB: I think my line of the night comes from Steve Serby of the New York Post: "You just don't throw on Chase Blackburn.'' Read the full article here.

+1,000,000,000 Also: Does anyone know what happened to the firstrow streaming site? I usually go there when the MAC site can't handle it...
-
It better be fixed after halftime. For anyone that has a Twitter account, trying tweeting the problem to Jeremy Guy (@JGuyMAC). He might be able to contact someone to get it fixed. Apparently, the stream for the Toledo-Buffalo game is bad as well...
-
I've got a feed through the MAC site, but it plays for about two seconds before freezing, then jumping ahead 20 seconds. I'm about to lose my mind watching it.
-
Not trying to sound defensive, but any talk of the arena won't reach the press right now. Any possible discussions are strictly inside. Besides, people like Tressel (i.e. anyone that speaks to the media regularly) knows when to give a canned answer.

This should be a fun game to watch. I'll have my eyes on Harney and Zeke. Zeke has been hot lately and I'm hoping he can keep it going. Harney is looking to get back on track and I think EMU will be more focused on Zeke. That might allow more inside opportunities for the badger.

I know they've taken offers for the space. But that was a long while ago, so I'm sure the plans have changed. The STEM plan sounds more likely. That would be a GREAT spot though.

I shall preface this post with my source. He's currently a graduate student in the athletic department. I've worked professionally with him covering university news (sports and academic) for over a year now. The athletic department hired an outside firm to compare costs/benefits of renovating the JAR versus building a new arena. They expect results from the firm within the next month. Additionally, I've heard the case would have to be compelling in order to renovate. With the addition of Tressel to UA, a donor has supposedly stepped forward with $20 million toward a new arena. Also, the athletic department is looking even more than before toward a new arena with the money attracting possibilities Tressel creates. And finally, some speculation. My source and I talked back and forth a little bit thinking of places for a new arena. The current location of Central Hower HS is what we came up with. But who knows

Why don't you continue to improve your resume instead of posting envious/hateful comments on a collegiate message board? Tressel is widely respected throughout the state (and wider, really) and his appointment is already paying dividends. Talk show hosts on AM radio are already talking about it and we're on the front page of a bunch of websites. This "jerk" is bringing more publicity to the university than any of the unemployed people in this area would.

POLL: How many wins in 2012 will you be happy with?
zestycoyote replied to NewZipsFan's topic in Akron Zips Football
I just had a Galley Boy today. I wish I could send one your way! I think 5 wins is possible. Athletes don't matter much in the MAC, but coaching does. Bowden is already one of the best coaches in the MAC without ever coaching a game. Assuming he will maximize the current talent on the roster, I think winning one of the big out of conference games is possible and the MAC almost always lends 1-3 games to inferior opponents. -
STO showed some replays. It looked pretty clean. The "non-foul" on Abreu was definitely a foul though. As was the assault on Zeke on that rebound. The STO commentators keep talking about Can't State's "presence." That must mean they're playing thug ball and getting away with it. Akron needs to quit trying so hard in the second half though. They don't seem to know whether they want to play outside or inside.

Here's a stream in case anyone needs it: link

I figured this game could use it's own thread. According to Rasor, this is George Thomas' first Akron-Can't game. Thomas has done a pretty good job so far covering the Zips. Still, don’t you think a replacement writer should have some exposure to the teams they’re about to start covering? Go Zips!
