  1. If you paid any attention to his comments, you'd realize that he doesn't want a shot. He didn't say he's done with college football -- he said he's done with football. Period.
  2. Any student fan that doesn't know that GoZips.com exists is living under a rock. It's on documents during new student orientation, on banners around campus, etc. I don't mind constructive criticism about the athletic office's outreach to fans, but not knowing about the website is not a legitimate complaint.
  3. It's hard to see a guy like Wagner lose his love for the game, but I respect his decision to step away. I think it speaks greatly about the damage Ianello did to individual players, let alone the program. If he's smart enough to walk away when he's lost the drive to play, he's smart enough to function successfully outside the game.
  4. If the main things keeping Dambrot in Akron was money and a transfer, I have lost a lot of respect for him. He's a great coach and I'm glad he's still here, but you shouldn't be saying statements like the that when you declined the job. We get it, you're a valuable commodity, we should worship the ground you walk on, etc. I just hope his quotes were taken out of context by the writer, but I have a hard time believing that's the case.
  5. This isn't about Zip athletics. I haven't said anything about sports. I'm talking about supporting higher education in this area. There's no reason to rip a nationally respected school just because of some barely-existent sports rivalry. If that makes me "Douche of the Month," so be it. Also, by using the word douche, you're a prime example of the type of UA student that contributes to the university's standard of mediocrity. Zippy, I won't even bother to respond, as you clearly unable to understand what a university is, or why it should offer more than two degrees.
  6. Sure, they're smaller job industries. Maybe that's why Can't State's programs are considered unique programs? Fewer people get those degrees because there are fewer jobs in those areas. It doesn't mean they're automatically useless. Get it?
  7. A degree isn't useful unless it's some generic (i.e. easy) education or business degree. My bad.
  8. Yes, seriously. Akron has great engineering programs. That's awesome. The business school is above average, but more than anything it's a bargain. The School of Communication is well-funded, but the professors are pretty unimpressive and the students are, well, 13 ACT students for the most part. Once you get past those departments, you hit a bunch of community college-level programs. Can't State offers more than one or two good programs. Their journalism program is among the best in the nation. They're one of the only schools in this part of the country to offer a BA in sign language. You might make fun of their fashion program, but it's a top ten program. Check it out. Again, I'm a proud graduate of The University of Akron, but I'm not blind.
  9. I'm a recent graduate of The University of Akron. It provided with me with a lot of opportunities when it came to internships, classes, connections, etc. That said, there is NO WAY that Akron, overall, is a better school than Can't State.
  10. Regardless of what some people on this board think, we're a long, LONG way from having to think about a conference change. By the time it's even a possibility, the conferences will have settled down. Also, I think it's entirely likely that the bowl system will be gone by then.
  11. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to see more state funding for higher education, but as long as 75% of the population doesn't value education (look at the state of our country's public schools), funding will only get worse. But more than anything, I think this comes down to why people pursue higher education vs. why higher education exists. Higher education isn't a job factory. If you want a job, get a technical (associate) degree or pursue an apprenticeship. BA, MA, PhD, etc. are for the pursuit of KNOWLEDGE, not a career. Yeah, a career can follow sometimes, but people need to quit generalizing technical degrees and 4-year degrees. Not at all the same. I know everyone doesn't qualify for funding or cannot afford to go into debt to get a degree from The University of Akron or any other university. My response is that those people should take a step back and consider why they're pursuing the degree. Despite what everyone's high school teachers say, not every student is university material. The huge number of unqualified students is part of what drives the price of education higher and higher.
  12. To be fair, financial aid and scholarship monies are being raised in compensation with the tuition/fee raises.
  13. I work in the College of Education. I'll do my best to track it down.
  14. The biggest difference right now is Crawford for NW. Unless we stop letting him have the open lane, he's going to go for 40.
  15. Happy to see the 7-0 run to end the half. Without Northwestern's hot 3 point shooting, this game looks totally different, score wise. If we can adjust to their offense (that I love, by the way), I think it'll be a close game in the second half. Other keys: 1. No more McClanahan. Ever. 2. More Zeke Marshall. He's done good work inside almost at will so far. And he's dunking more! 3. No more 3 pointers from the Serb. It just looks desperate. 4. Walsh needs to hit a couple 3 point shots. 5. More Diggs and Gilliam.
  16. I think once OSU offered Trubisky, we all kind of figured he wouldn't be playing in Akron. Unless he suffers some catastrophic injury, which would be a shame, he will be playing in a BCS conference.
  17. And yes. 2OT. We might get to watch the second half.
  18. I feel like this happens almost every time the Zips play on ESPN.
  19. Time Warner 8.5 DL 1.9 UL Speeds aren't my problem. I have trouble streaming games sometimes. Usually, it's just home games. That might just be my imagination though. I'll post my results for tonight's game.
  20. Possibly, but it's kind of hard to tell when he's out of position (i.e. he needs coaching before we can tell).
  21. +1 whether he wants to or not.
  22. That kind of play (along with his fall off the whole season) is a reason why he shouldn't have been there in the first place.
  23. I will. We had lots of bad play tonight, but our good spurts were always interrupted by a phantom foul call or a no call on Buffalo. When you're talking four points, it makes a difference. Akron didn't deserve to win tonight, but they would have won, in my opinion, with a good set of refs.
  24. I know we haven't played great tonight, but we just took the lead with 5 minutes to go...You might be overreacting.
  25. Sorry to double post, but I figured I would post something positive about the feed. I like that the arena audio is on during breaks. Things are improving!
