  1. I'm not really concerned with them scoring at the end of the half, but rather the way they scored. A few quick passes got them down the field and in the endzone. That momentum coupled with their coach getting them focused could make things interesting. Then again, I think the halftime pep talk is vastly overrated. Never seemed to work very well for J.D. Brookhart.
  2. Nope, ESPN3 exclusive.
  3. For anyone that can't watch or listen, Yahoo Sports is maintaining a live box score for the game (unlike ESPN, SI, etc.). Here's the link.
  4. Great, and I mean GREAT post. The Ianello regime still amazes me. Whether it's the horrible recruiting (funny, ain't it?) or the 20+ year old offense...just unreal.
  5. ESPN probably won't care until we get out of the Bottom 10.
  6. Thanks, George. I don't know why people are suddenly ragging on you so hard. What do you all want; features on every starter following a 56-14 loss to a C-USA team (or 2013 Big East, but a pretty crappy BE)?
  7. Good analysis. The offense doesn't worry me. The fact that Williams & co. moved the ball consistently against a top 50 defense gives me hope. The defense was better than the score showed. If we can maintain the intensity on both sides of the ball, we'll do fine in MAC play. I don't really care how we perform until then, honestly. I think the team can have a positive record in the MAC if the receivers cut down drops and the defensive line keeps getting pressure.
  8. Yes, the students support the soccer team. That's great. Unfortunately, the soccer team isn't drawing the big money. The university needs to justify InfoCision Stadium. A good way for that to happen is for students to come to football games during the team's revival. The renovations to the soccer field aren't costing $60 million. I hope the football team wins during MAC play. That could inspire better attendance (both student and walk up).
  9. During pre-game, the scoreboard showed a kid (probably around 15) wearing an OSU shirt. Seriously, we can't avoid that kind of blatantly generic fan? Yes, winning, puts butts in seats, but it kills me that students won't support the only major team on campus playing during the fall. Yes, basketball will come soon enough, but the football team looks better than they have in the last 3 years. Come to games -- keep inspiring bench players to draw crowd noise on opposing third downs so it's a loud atmosphere. Even if the team loses, it's still football; it's still a renewed team under Bowden that looks like it has a promising future.
  10. In the composition class I teach today, the new freshman were very down on the Zips. I wish they knew how bad the team was last year. I think student attendance is going to be way down unless the team comes back to Akron with a win.
  11. It's too early to be frustrated! Wait for Friday at least...
  12. I don't want to be a downer, but does anyone remember the attendance last year? I know, Terry Bowden is a name, blah blah blah, but he isn't big enough to draw 10,000 more people to this game than last year's average. Announced attendance: 18,000. Real "in the seats" attendance: 7,500.
  13. ...or sell more than 4,000 tickets per season to afford changes.
  14. That #25 ranking is a big over-ranking. They're still good enough to beat Akron, but whoever made that pick hasn't been reading about UCF in the news over the past few months.
  15. Wow, just when I thought I couldn't think any less of Akron Sports Now...
  16. If you really think that Terry Bowden is a better coach (at this moment) than Urban Meyer, you're pretty delusional. I'm excited about the coaches, too, but I'm keeping my expectations within reality.
  17. +1 We've heard about Mangum, but I'm curious to hear how the other linebackers, especially Rossi, are shaping up.
  18. I'd love to see some PSU transfers wearing Zips uniforms. The thing is, the players can transfer ANYWHERE with no restrictions. I think that alone puts Akron in a very tough position.
  19. The university isn't serving students that are assured to fail without better preparation. Taking the money out of a naive student's pocket is not serving, encouraging them to follow a plan for success is.
  20. I feel like it's really strange to post about graduate studies on a UA sports forum. Either way, here's my take: I'm slated to pursue a graduate degree at the University of Akron in the Department of English. I don't feel that it's a a top 100 program, but I know that I will work well with the faculty members in the department. As long as you feel like you can succeed in your selected department and have a relationship with faculty members (even if it's just an e-mail relationship), you're good to go. It's a state school that is on the upswing. If you can do solid work when it comes to a thesis, you can succeed at UA.
  21. ^This. As long as UA continues to improve existing facilities and turn away unprepared students, the reputation of the university will rise.
  22. It's still pretty early in the recruiting process. The true test is if he maintains his recruitment when/if he gets an offer from a bigger program (e.g. Big 10, or even a competitive MAC university).
  23. Quality post. +1
  24. I just wanted to add a little note that needs to be said: How awesome is it that we have someone like Zeke Marshall's mother on this board? I can't begin to tell you (GameChngr44) what a pleasure it has been to hear a more personal viewpoint about one of the most exciting Akron athlete in recent memory.
  25. +1 Thank you for enlightening posters about how a news organization works.
