  1. Eh, I'm conflicted. Going in tied is great, but it'd be awesome to go up again before half. I think it's important, however, to prevent a pick-six or something similar. Lots of UA momentum with the long TD run and the red zone stop before half.
  2. Very, very cool. I'm most impressed by how D. Williams has been able to change the play at the line of scrimmage despite the crowd noise. As long as the offense can eat up some time, the defense will have a chance to stay fresh through the last two quarters. I'm preparing to eat crow!
  3. Any links for the game for those of us without ESPN3? I checked First Row Sports, and so far there's nothing. Edit: A stream is now up on FRS.
  4. WMU beating UCONN is nice. I was hoping that BGSU might upset a Tech team coming off a bad loss to Pitt.
  5. Big 10 is down. Besides, Iowa is only slightly above Indiana in terms of reputation. Kirk Ferentz has been riding some tough seasons based on success from long ago. Nobody said much when Testicle Tech beat Indiana last week, so I see this as no different.
  6. Fair enough! I'm not trying to be an Internet tough guy. I love the debate and I hope the Zips win. We share that, no doubt. I'm pulling for D. Williams to throw 6 touchdowns to stay in the top 5 nationally and an Akron win. We'll see if the collective hope of all UA fans is enough.
  7. Considering my journalism and live-football-watching background, I think I'll give myself a bit more credit. I'm a graduate student, not some hungover, sixth-year undergraduate student. Also, UAB has yet to score an offensive TD. I think OSU holds on as long as they don't let UAB kick 25 field goals.
  8. Agreed. That said, Johnny J's is only a 10 minute drive from campus. I think Zips fans should give up on Barley House, or any other campus-area establishment, when it comes to consistently supporting UA athletics.
  9. Your experience has benefited you so much, I see. After all, you're filling the role of the "I played high school football!" tough guy on a college football message board. I'm guessing you also own a Hummer and wear cutoff sleeveless shirts. Have fun with your "attitude football." I will live in reality, where teams win because of physical traits, game intelligence, and good coaching.
  10. Oh, okay. Well I'll find the most intense looking guy on campus, get him a uniform, and throw him on the field. There's a reason "the look on a guy's face" is considered a cliché. I have all kinds of confidence in Dalton Williams, but it's because of his smart play and accuracy, not because of an interpreted facial expression.
  11. Sure. Sorry, I just don't judge my QB's readiness based on the "look on his face." I'll stick with odds, history, and statistics. I'm a 22 year-old that has been rooting for the Zips for over 10 years. I've seen the difference between Charlie Frye and Clayton Moore. I went to the MAC Championship against NIU and the bowl game against Memphis. I've seen the bad Brookhart teams and the awful Ianello teams. I'm more-than-excited about the new team and Bowden, but baby steps. I hope the upset happens, but I'll be happy with a losing final score of 35-21.
  12. I've said that the Zips have a chance (10% or so, if you find my earlier post), but acting like we are definitely going to win makes the forum look bad. I've said the same thing about the OU poster (Bubba). Bowden has brought a great attitude to the program, but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
  13. Because, you know, believing is the only thing that matters. Since when the did the football forum become a posting-ground for fairy tale writers?
  14. The news outlets care. If there are fewer hits on articles, that (theoretically) means fewer people are reading. That means less coverage. It's just a matter of respecting someone else's work, really. People write these articles, not robots.
  15. Morgan State. I-AA. Tennessee. SEC. Anyone else see the disconnect?
  16. I'm not saying you're crazy, but I will say that your points are WAY off. We wouldn't beat UCF now or at any point in the season. We might have 10% chance against Tennessee because of Georgia next week and the general turmoil surrounding the program. Hyperbole is not what the Zips football program needs right now. If we win six games this year and are bowl eligible, great, I'll eat it. On the other hand, most people had us winning 2-4 games and I think that's still a realistic expectation. Expectations shouldn't blow up because we killed a team we SHOULD kill. Scale it all back until we win some meaningful games (i.e. games against MAC opponents).
  17. I'm all for having fans of other schools on this forum, but not if they're just going to troll the boards. Ban time?
  18. Yes, but both White and Pomeranz are essentially first year players. Name one top-shelf starter (outside of Verlander) that was dominant, or even good, during their first full year? I'll do some of the work for you; none of these guys make the cut: Hernandez, Sabathia, Halladay, Lee, Haren, Cain, Price ... need I go on? The Rockies got potential. Granted, it might not work out, but next year, Pomeranz could develop into that no. 3 starter he is supposed to be and White could stick in the bullpen as an eighth inning guy. The Indians, however, got another head case that makes millions more than they can afford.
  19. With the local attitude the way it is, Akron has beat beat UT to make anyone notice. Losing 20-17 would be exactly the same as losing 56-17. Unfortunate and stupid, but most of the students/locals see a UA win as a fluke and a loss as business as usual. Until the team has a winning season (or upsets a big team), the attendance will be crappy.
  20. Eh, he's been pretty open about it with the whole class. He's a good student athlete; he contributes in class, shows up, turns in stuff on time. He's realistic though. He wants to stay this year so he can keep a good relationship with Porter, but after that he'll get paid. He noted that he wants to get a contract stipulation that'll pay for school, just in case. Good head on his shoulders.
  21. Dillon Serna is in my composition I class and I was working with him on his first essay. He said with Porter leaving and the attention paid to him by pro teams, he plans to leave after this season. Not sure if it's been noted or not, but I figured I'd pass it along.
  22. Jeez-us. C'mon defense. Can Dalton Williams pass for 5 TDs in his second collegiate start?
  23. Right. So the turnover/TD isn't the biggest problem. If we start moving the ball again, then it's a game.
  24. Even if they score, it's not the end of the world. It's like we were going to win with just 20 points anyway.
