Everybody sees things differently, I guess. I don't detect one iota of douchebaggery. I see a no-nonsense coach who wants to win.

How will Ianello approch the BCS OOC games?
K92 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Play action only works if you can run early. I want to see some big plays passing out of PN7 being set up by an effective short passing game. I don't think we will be able to run on BCS teams. I am a totally old school guy. Establishing the run is paramount because it sets up play action. There is absolutely no reason why the Zips shouldn't be able to establish the run against the likes of Syracuse, Kentucky and Indiana. None of these teams are exactly sporting a savage front seven. In 2009, Syracuse was the best run defense of the bunch with a final ranking of 13th in rushing defense, which is fantastic on paper. Indiana checked in at #79 and Kentucky was an impressive 100. If the offensive line can get a push, we can definitely run the ball against these three BCS teams, IMO. Once play action works, all three of these games are winnable. I am not saying we will win all three, but all three are winnable. As happy as most on this board are about scrapping the "gimmick" 3-3-5 defense, I am happier that we are scrapping that gimmick spread offense. Our offensive scheme should keep us in most games this year! -
The greatest sport in the world, "football", is called "soccer" in the U.S.A. So, what's your point? I have bitten my tongue long enough. I wish the soccer Zips well and would never make disparaging comments about the team even though I have zero interest in the sport itself. The same courtesy is not extended by some of our soccer fans when speaking about the football Zips. I hope the soccer team wins every game, going from pre-season number one all the way through to NCAA champions! Because I am a Zip. And I wish ALL the Zip athletes success. If you are gonna take jabs at the football program and compare them to the soccer program, stay on the soccer board. If you are gonna make comments about soccer being a better sport than football or more popular world-wide than football, stay on the soccer board. Popularity abroad means nothing. David Hasslehoff is a star in Germany. The French think Jerry Lewis is a comedic genius. We are talking about NCAA sports here. According the latest statistics I could find from the NCAA, the largest crowd ever at an NCAA soccer game was 22,512 back in 1980. In 2008, the 86th ranked football team on the list, Central Michigan, averaged 22,659 for their home games. Here are the links. http://web1.ncaa.org/web_files/stats/footb...ndance/2008.pdf http://web1.ncaa.org/web_files/stats/m_soc.../Attendance.pdf Stop hating on the football program.

OK- I'm gonna reply to my own post. I say we score 4 TD's and have 4 QB sacks. That should give us the W. I can't wait either. I had my new tripod satellite dish out on the porch last Sunday tuning it in, getting ready for the tailgate action to come. No more missing College Game Day! Going to pick up the new E-Z Up tonight. Got the Margaritaville Grill for Christmas. Woo-Hoo! I am with ya buddy! Get the party started! Lot 34 Baby! As for Syracuse? I am hoping the Zips are able to run the ball at will, eat up clock on long scoring drives, so that a well-rested D can come in and wreak havoc upon the 'Cuse offense. :rock:I am so effin pumped.

Doug Martin Laments the Fact that He Sucks
K92 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Yes, but how do you REALLY feel Cap'n?? Please show us your inner-most emotions about the Golden flushes potential to become road kill for eguins and company! Sometimes when my wife is watching T.V. I think "Man, I hate The Bachelorette..." but then I remember how much I hate Can't and everything snaps back into perspective. -
I'd like to nominate 'the Kid' for Giving up on the Zips Hall of Fame. In my humble opinion his performance over the last 6 months has pushed him right to the top. Who is "the Kid" ? Zach used to be UAkronkid and had a habit of saying so much stupid stuff people made fun of him a lot. So he reinvented himself as Zach and stopped saying stupid stuff for a while. He did? I most certainly did not! And as for beating a OOC team, I predict we beat Gardner Webb. Best chance against a BCS team is against Kentucky. Kentucky will be the best team we face this year. Period. If that is our best shot at an OOC victory, we in trouble.

I think there are 3 main reasons to be excited: 1. 4-3 defense 2. Pro style offense 3. Nice hires for the assistants At this point, there is so little to go on either way. Those are 3 reasons I like the hire, and at least 3 BEGINNING reasons for me to believe in RI. You took the words right out of my mouth. I totally agree with your 3 reasons. All that matters is winning/being competitive. If TW hired a guy with an impeccable resume, PR skills out the wazoo, who was the second coming of Bob Hope at the golf outing, an expert texter and actually hung the drywall and placed the merchandise orders for the Team Shop...but was a loser on the field...We would all be disappointed. We are all hungry for a winner. All of our posts stem from that. We all express that hunger differently. But even if the Zips go 0-11 this year, I will be at the Info for the Buffalo game. But the reasons for that are a whole 'nother thread.

Have you ever ordered from this place before? What's the catch? I may have to order this. I did notice that when you add something to the cart, the shipping is $20. PS I still think you should order the Rams replica jersey with 'SEWELL 56' on it. Then make sure you show the AD, coach, assistant AD & anybody else you can think of what you had to do get the jersey you wanted. Leave the Rams logo though. It will be like a "dig" against the fact you can't get what you want. Take a picture of it, post it here, send it to "ask the AD"...etc. No, I have never ordered from this site, but they are operating out of China and you wire them the money via Western Union. I was a little gun shy about going ahead and placing an order, but the prices can't be beat! Not football, but I was able to successfully bid for this on ebay. I think I might turn this into a Joe Jakubick tribute jersey. Whaddaya think? Or should I just make a #23 jersey like those lovely ladies have?

Don't think this has been posted yet. http://www.ohiomm.com/blogs/zips/2010/07/a...ter-six-months/

I just saw it on the facebook page. Awesome. Gets me excited for the season to start!

Two flaws to your logic, smaller schools than us have jerseys available for sale. Even the University doesn't have to order 200 jerseys to get them produced. You're talking 200 total jerseys from small to double X. You go with numbers that common (7, 34, 45, 56), you wind up with 800 jerseys, that you inventory and sell over a 4 year period, replenishing on the third year. It's not rocket science. And you are comparing an NFL jersey price (NFL licensing fee, Team licensing fee, player licensing fee, plus mark up from the manufacture and retailer) to a college jersey (University licensing fee, and then mark up) They range about $75 and cost the store about $40 a pop. Now the Athletic Department screwed up by not including retail jerseys in the original agreements. (which most schools do) Gotta agree with the g-mann. If these schools can do it so can Akron. http://www.fansedge.com/Delaware-Fightin-B...9121987_PG.html http://www.collegefootballstore.com/COLLEG...izzlies_Jerseys http://www.fansedge.com/Nike-Navy-Replica-...0005667_PD.html http://www.collegefootballstore.com/COLLEG...Football_Jersey http://www.collegefootballstore.com/COLLEG..._Eagles_Jerseys http://www.collegefootballstore.com/COLLEG...Football_Jersey http://www.collegefootballstore.com/COLLEG...Football_Jersey http://www.collegefootballstore.com/COLLEG...o_Lobos_Jerseys http://www.collegefootballstore.com/COLLEG..._Tigers_Jerseys Found these in about 15 minutes. Granted, some of these jerseys are not of the quality I would like to see in a Zips offering, but come on! North Dakota Fighting Sioux?!?

I suggested that I was going to order a specific name and number here one time to an assistant AD since we couldn't get any jerseys. He didn't think it was as humorous as I did. I hear what you are preaching. I already found an outlet for jerseys at dirt cheap prices. http://www.mlbjerseys.us/reebok-NFL-Jersey...-St-Louis-Rams/ Found a place in Marion Ohio that had the right color tackle twill to make the correct "Akron" shaped numbers. It is an easy switcheroo to take off the old numbers and put on the new. The only snag... Where do you get directional logos for the sleeves? Both need to be facing forward. I don't think they exist. If they did I would have a #56 jersey to wear to the Syracuse game.

Something along the lines of this http://ohiostate.teamfanshop.com/COLLEGE_O...uckeyes_Jerseys I can dream can't I? I want a Mondo Jersey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry, I am guessing Mondo is Almondo Sewell. Is that correct? Yes, that is correct. Or Bryan Wagner. Or any number really. Would love to have a jersey to wear to the game.

Any word on the team shop at the Info? This is becoming beyond ridiculous. How is it that I cannot purchase anything worthwhile to show support for my team? Have you checked out the storefront on gozips lately? They are promoting polos. Click on the polos tab. . . nothing available. Does anybody know why our merchandise offering is so pathetic? It really pisses me off in case you can't tell. Especially when you can make Akron Zips LeBron James jerseys available to pretty young girls for a totally inane and ill-conceived panderfest.

"STRENGTHS: Keep an eye on two true freshmen tailbacks: Erick Howard, a two-time Ohio Mr. Football..." D'oh!

Don't know if anybody saw this or not, but here is a complete list of all 120 FBS teams and what it will cost you for the least expensive season ticket each school offers. All I have to say is, "you get what you pay for". http://collegefootball.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1094191

We all knew this was bound to happen eventually. The big boys couldn't wait around any longer to see more "BCS" busters come from other conferences. Remember how close Ball State was two years ago? Lets hope the investment UA has made in football gives us just a slight glimmer of a hope to get a foot in the door. I find it highly unlikely, but if there were schools to have a remote chance in the MAC it would be UA, Toledo, and Buffalo. I pray that the SEC stands pat at 12 teams. I hope the ACC would only have to poach a couple of Big East teams if they decide to expand. I would be absolutely ecstatic if we could join a diluted Big East with UT, Temple and Buffalo. This scenario is a long shot at best, but the MAC is not going to add anyone that will make the conference one iota better. I am afraid I am not gonna like how this all pans out.

Totally agree. BC, Connecticut and Pitt at home are great additions to their schedule. Hopefully they can pack the house for those games. You know, like we failed to do against Indiana.

Ya cuz that rivalry philosophy is absolutely KILLING tOSU... Only a fool would suggest that rivalries have a backfire effect. Indifference equals irrelevance. Hmmm. Let me see. Should I put any credence in Jake's philosophy or should I stick with the Woody Hayes/Bo Schembechler attitude? <snippet>Unlike his predecessor John Cooper, Tressel put a special emphasis on the rivalry. In his introductory speech at halftime of a January basketball game, against Michigan, he said "I can assure you that you will be proud of our young people, in the classroom, in the community, and most especially in 310 days in Ann Arbor, Michigan on the football field." Tressel gets it. On the other hand we have Rich Rodriquez who agrees with Jake.

Can't is our rival. I will always hate them. They will always suck. I will never have one ounce of respect for them. I will never refrain from expressing my opinion of them. Ask anyone from Alabama, Michigan, Texas, USC, Toledo, or Miami if indifference is the best insult in regard to Auburn, Ohio State, Oklahoma, UCLA, BGSU, and Ohio. And vice-versa. You just don't get it. I see the "crAcKRON" and "Screw the Roo" t-shirts and comments made by them. I have experienced their air of superiority. Believe me, that is more insulting to me than if they were indifferent. Indifference could only weaken the rivalry. The cracks they make about Akron don't have a backfire effect on them. We get no boost from the derision they pile on us. I believe we are extremely lucky to have a rival. Some programs do not and try their damnedest to cultivate one. NIU doesn't have a rival and some of their fans have been trying to goad Toledo into being their rivals. Toledo fans aren't interested. They know who they hate. So do I.

I noticed last year that they flushed up some MAC scores at half time, but only saw it once and I can't remember what game. I totally agree they should show some scores in between "I'm thinking Arby's" and "Kiss Cam" ads. Oh, and don't forget to stop at "Whiskey Dick's" after the game!

Tailgating is a huge part of the football game day experience and we Zip fans have a long way to go in this area. I think I have a crew ready for the fall that have bought into the party aspect. Not necessarily Zip fans yet, but a group of guys that like football, beer and fun. They have already realized that the Info is close to home, admission is cheap, and the Barley House is a great place for the after game party. So, I am working on my tailgate setup for the fall now. I am gonna kick it up a few notches from last year. Give me a couple of years and I will have my buds singing "We cheer the Akron Blue and Gold..." See you in lot 34!

I vote the same for ZachTheZip. Until you prove otherwise with a good post for once, you're crap too. +1 I am tired of the negativity already.
