The masses don't think very highly of Mr. Cosgrove if your definition of masses is "losers who post their opinions on twitter". Would the folks who elected him into the Wisconsin Sports Hall of Fame count in "opinion of the masses"? They have a little different take. Twitter is such an apropos name for the service. Of, by and for twits.

K S U at Miami tonight.. A big one in the MAC East !
K92 replied to The Hip Zip's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
There is never any circumstance where I could ever root for Can't to win ever, period, end of story. I hope they lose every game and that their entire campus gets blown away by a category 5 tornado. -
2011 Football Ticket Renewal Forms/Parking Info.
K92 replied to 2Ball's topic in Akron Zips Football
I am definitely renewing. I will not be parking in a non-tailgating lot, though. Are the lot 9 folks going to be back or will the lot be empty? I would like to park with some people having fun with good food and beer before the game. Last year I found myself walking over to lot 9 quite a bit because the only thing going on in lot 34 was listening to the crickets chirp. If there is going to be any semblance of a party in lot 9, I am willing to pay the $150, but not if it only means a shorter walk to the stadium. -
So there is a bright side to this hire. Smart aleck comment of the year (so far). Gotta give credit when it's due.

Who knows, maybe an "unfortunate" name serves to toughen a player up? Perhaps Dick Butkus (one example) might not have been the quite the same LB without the teasing that no doubt came along the way. This guy probably never got teased at all.
-
How did they screw up? Some go the juco route because nobody was interested in them coming out of high school, like Aaron Rodgers for example.
-
There's only one reason. Tell that too Cam Newton. You guys don't know what you are talking about. There are a lot of good players playing JUCO for a lot of reasons. Not all are D1 talent, but a lot are. +1 Um, I think Nick Fairley was a juco as well. Huh. Of all things. The best two players on the national champion team were juco transfers. Wow, the things you learn.

I am not going to justify anything done last year. I am neither condoning nor condemning Rob Ianello. You know, hindsight is always 20/20 and I am sure Rob would change some things given the second chance. To suggest that he purposely sabotaged the team in order to have an excuse for poor performance is laughable. If you really believe that you need help. For me, the jury is still out. Let me ask you, Zach...Is there any way this staff can redeem themselves or are they condemned forever no matter what?
-
Did Miami fans know immediately in '09 that Haywood couldn't coach? Ianello and staff came in and changed everything. They didn't take over from where J.D.left off. They started from scratch. Last year was a write off. It sucked to see the depths the Zips sank to last year. Obviously. I am no apologist for Rob Ianello. He needs to prove his and his staff's worth in 2011. If they can turn it around, will he then know how to coach? There was plenty of blame to be heaped onto the coaching staff last year. Some piss poor calls and some atrocious clock management. However, there was definitely improvement made toward the end of the year, as witnessed by the performance in the last two games. The most obvious shortcomings of our ball club, according to my amateur observations, seemed to be secondary, placekicking, and quarterback. The coaching staff addressed those areas in this year's class. I am aware that this staff can do nothing right, ever, in the eyes of some. I am through chastising them for sins of the past. This year's recruiting looks good to me. We have a QB enrolled right now that was good enough in high school to go to an SEC school! He clearly made some very poor decisions that were very detrimental to his career, but he is obviously trying to redeem himself. This could turn out very good for all involved. Time will tell. I am excited about it. Several of the other prospects are very exciting as well. I hope RI turns this around and reinvents the program. Not because I love RI, but because I love the Zips.

ESPN has put the recruiting classes from each MAC school on the same page. link

You said it. Watching/listening to this team play makes my head want to bust wide open. I have been hoping they would be able to turn this season around, but it's looking bleak. I was hoping the cmu game was going to be a springboard.
-
Hopefully we made some good gets that will be able to come in and contribute right away. Rivals doesn't seem to think this class is anything special...ranked tied for sixth. Not sure their rating expertise means much of anything. They have Can't ranked third with their class which includes one 3* recruit. Really? How do they figure?

Zips Get Punter/Kicker Commit
K92 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
Highlight reel looks pretty good. Sure would be nice to see kickoffs for touchbacks at the info. -
I am getting a little excited too, blue&gold. Despite how the resident know it all naysayers blather on, this class is looking pretty good to me. Guess I am a "glass is half full" kinda guy. Go zips go.
-
So you are already predicting a loss against Can't, then?
-
Even fatso cinco scores a bucket.

My tv has been hearing quite a bit of profanity tonight.

I think Auburn will make it five in a row for the SEC. I think Oregon's offensive line will be manhandled. Don't think the Ducks can stop Newton. Hoping for a good game. They (media) have certainly hyped it enough.

Well I hope EVERYONE was at the Can't game
K92 replied to akronzips71's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
Wish I could have been there. Always so satisfying to beat them. Loved the look of despair on the face of the Can't fan at the end there on sto. -
I must have been a good boy cause I got Zips apparrel (3 t-shirts, 2 hoodies, a hat and a sweet windbreaker). I also got a flagstand and pole that goes underneath your tire for my new Zips flag. The jolly fat man topped it all off with a Coleman propane skillet to grill onions and green peppers, fry bacon, etc. for next year's tailgates. What did you get?
-
As much as I would love to see the Zips beat OSU, I could not bear watching them lose to Can't 5 years in a row. I think there is actually a clause in the ncaa bylaws that states any team that loses to Can't 5 consecutive times automatically loses their div I-A status.

Isn't the reason why players can't sell their own personal items is because if it were allowed, it would soon escalate into boosters paying players exorbitant sums for worthless items?

I was pleasantly surprised when I received my letter. I took it as a positive. I was going to re-up for season tickets anyway, but it was a nice gesture. They are obviously very concerned for next year, as witnessed not only by this letter but also by my treatment at the Buffalo game. I forgot my tickets, so I went inside to see if I could have duplicates printed. I was obliged by a very helpful young man. When I thanked him for his assistance, he looked me dead in the eye and said "Thank YOU for coming to the game today". They are trying to reach out to us and show their appreciation for our support. I respect that.
