  1. Are you using a generator or a battery for your power? I'll be in 34 too...one of my guys is setting up Directv at the lot. I have a battery setup. Lots cheaper than a Honda generator!
  2. Exactly. Does anyone remember the first half of the Ohio game last year? Hint: 2 interceptions and a fumble into the end zone? 3 turnovers negated the 80 yards rushing. OK...since you bring up the Ohio game last year, lets talk about it.... Our starting QB fumbled while his leg was getting ripped off, while he was about to score the go-ahead TD against the eventual MAC East champs, during a half in which he was carry our offense both on the ground and through the air with almost 200 yards of total offense. Meanwhile, his replacement comes in and saves the day by completing only 9 of 23 passes, we muster nothing more than one 30-yard scoring drive, and the game becomes virtually out of reach early in the 4th quarter. Feel however you want about these two guys, who's better, etc. There's plenty that I don't like about BOTH of them. But, I'm completely baffled as to why you would point to the production of these two guys in the Ohio game as your supporting data in favor of Nicely? I feel as if I touched a nerve here. Not my intention to be a troll and stir the pot. I don't think it is fair to compare the performance of our quarterbacks within the Ohio game. Patrick Nicely was forced into duty in an emergency situation after #1 was kicked off the team and #2 was injured. I would never suggest that the Zips were better off with Nicely for the 2nd half. Matt Rodgers started the 2009 season as the #2 QB ready to play if CJ goes down. PN started the 2009 season as a true freshman who was going to be redshirted. Both were forced into duty under less than optimal circumstances. It is my belief that PN made better lemonade with his batch of lemons. I simply referenced the Ohio game since that was the last action MR saw in 2009. I referenced the first half of that game because he had the Indiana and Central Michigan starts under his belt at that time. If I wanted to trash the guy, I would have mentioned his Indiana performance where he threw for 165 yards and 4 interceptions. I don't want to trash him at all. Perhaps I just should have kept my opinion to myself and simply given Dr. Z a +1 response because I agree with him. Bottom line for me is this. Patrick Nicely showed me a few flushes of brilliance last year. Matt Rodgers did not. What Matt showed me was a lot of grit and determination, which I respect. Neither one have shown me a whole lot of anything so far this year to tell you the truth, but I am hopeful that Nicely will continue to develop. You didn't touch a nerve. I actually like this post right here. I agree with you on many of the things you're saying about these two guys, and the situation. I merely wanted to point out that if I were making the "Patrick is better than Matt" argument, I certainly would not have chosen the Ohio game to support it. Keep something in mind when mentioning the Indiana and CMU games. Despite the mistakes, and the recent shock of losing our senior starting QB just a couple of days earlier, we still scored 21 points in each of those two games against quality opponents. And it was the last time we would score that many points the rest of the season, with the exception of lowly EMU and Ken+. Since point production is the name of the game, I think it's a hard fact to ignore, no matter how you stand on the issue. Point well taken. We also enjoyed the services of Mr. Bowser in those games as well. It is hard to project anything from the disaster that was last season.. Perhaps if the current coaching staff can make good adjustments at halftime (something the last staff had legitimate problems with) we can better see our players' talents shine. Indiana, Ohio and Bowling Green games come to mind. We need to see action on the field! It seems like we are all chomping at the bit here!
  3. Is the Syracuse game going to be on ESPN GamePlan? I know its on ESPN3.com but I can't get that because I have Time warner as my internet provider. I can't attend the game in person because I have a wedding to attend in Cincinnati that day. I am not sure about this. Perhaps someone else knows for sure, but I was under the impression that ESPN game plan did not provide exclusive programming but gave access to all the regional programming. I thought you could just see everything ESPN was broadcasting (regionally) nationwide. Anybody know for sure?

  5. Not really Zips football news but surprising nonetheless. I was looking through the NCAA section today at the Gabriel Brothers in Mansfield. Spotted Western Michigan, Buffalo and Toledo T-Shirts along with 2 different Toledo sweatshirts. I don't know if anyone has a Gabriel Brothers close to them to check for Zips clothing, but it may be worth a shot. These Tees and Sweatshirts were good quality also, better than what Wal-Mart has to offer and CHEAP.
  6. That may be the biggest factor of any turnaround we might see. Last year we were outmuscled by teams like Indiana and Temple. They were just better conditioned, stronger, tougher. You could argue that we had just as much natural talent as either team, but we were physically pushed around easily. Agree in the case of Temple. That was a country boy ass whoopin' right there. We should have won the Indiana game. We beat ourselves against the Hoosiers.

  8. What provider do you use? I've been looking into a similar setup, but wasn't sure if you can just buy service for 4 months out of the year. I have Dish Network and I am using one of my receivers from home. I just purchased an extra dish and tripod to use with my existing home account. I believe you can buy a "camping" programming package, but I did not go that route.
  9. My clock officially started today. I was on campus this morning in the parking lot dialing in my satellite dish. I am cocked, locked and ready to rock. I have subscribed to ESPN College Game Plan. I am ready to put on the chef's apron and I am thirsty. Totally ready to go at this point. I am now simply watching the clock. If anyone planning to tailgate in lot 34 wishes to bring a television setup, we can split my signal and send it your way. I have an extra 100 feet of co-ax available to offer. Let's go Zips!
  10. He got me too.
  11. The nice part of a bus trip is that you are able to get your drink on with your fellow Zips fans and not have to worry about the ins and outs of tailgating at the away team's facilities. I am ok with a group caravan driving to said destination as well. I just want to be with other Zips fans.
  12. Bleacher Report has the Zips in line for a conference change. link
  13. The Barley House is a fairly large sports bar on Main Street only a few blocks from campus. website Europe Gyro is right across the street from the stadium and is famous for gyros (of course), jojo potatoes, and (my favorite) pizza on a pita! http://fox8.cityvoter.com/europe-gyro/biz/71551 menu
  14. I must be part of a very small minority. I like the MAC.
  15. Are you kidding? They should sell tickets and help out anyone who is actually showing interest in the program. Amen You can always look forward to the UA-tosu game next year! My hunch is there will be at least three buses full of Akron fans...err tosu fans dresses in blue and gold...That is, until the bus parks and everyone departs. They all will peel off their Zips gear and head onto campus decked out in silver and red. And speaking of Zips in non-UA gear....I'm looking forward to visiting with Shooting Joe tomorrow morning at the basketball golf outing decked out in his North Carolina gear. Silver and red.
  16. Thank you very much for the scrimmage reports. Unfortunately, I had to work and couldn't be there. The good news about Zack Campbell is very encouraging. The kicking game was one of the Zips biggest liabilities last year. Jim Tressel could be correct. The punt may be the most important play. Really looking forward to seeing Jalil Carter in game situation. Looks very promising to me. I too, am stoked about seeing some smashmouth football from the Zips! Sounds like the defensive line is going to be 2 deep good. Again, very encouraging. I cannot wait until September 4th, getting my tailgate on, meeting some of you fine people in person and watching the Zips thrash the Orange.
  17. I would be interested in attending some away games.
  18. Now Temple to CUSA is being talked about due to a Tom Dienhart tweet. http://collegefootball.rivals.com/showmsg....144&style=2
  19. You have got to be kidding me. http://www.recordpub.com/news/sports_article/4876519
  20. Here's a nice little take on the whole situation. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/news...ug=dw-byu081810
  21. Received my tickets this morning.
  22. I got an idea, but forget his name. How about the sportscaster the used to be on ch. 23 with the big BLUE scoreboard.
  23. Did you all see that 3 MAC schools received votes in the pre-season USA Today Poll? Temple received 2 votes and Northern Illinois and Central Michigan each received one vote apiece. Thoughts?
  24. They may not have savage front sevens, but they still have better players than Akron. Throw early to set up big plays down field. Try to get the lead. The run out the clock if you can. Point well taken, GP1. I am just a bit leery of our lack of experience in the receiving corps. Jeremy LaFrance is legit, but not much game time backing him. Or maybe I just want to see the Zips be able to control the line of scrimmage and bloody the other team's lip.
