  1. I have taken most of the season off from posting because I made a fool of myself in the Wisconsin thread. I have been mostly watching from the sidelines since then. However, I have been so disappointed following the Buffalo game that I want to start this topic to get a real discussion of the state of the program. I realize that Akron has a history of being one of the very worst programs in D-1 history. I also realize that when Terry took over, the team was the absolute worst in the country and took over for the biggest p.o.s. coach of all-time. That being said, are you satisfied with where the program sits? I am not, but I could be persuaded with some sound logic that could make me feel better. I am of the belief that the team has beaten nobody so far. I am also of the belief that there have been some absolutely awful losses in the last 4 and a half years. Here is the rundown. . . can you point to the wins that I should feel good about? I can remember every game on this list pretty vividly. I watched 39 of them in person, 18 on TV. Going down the list, I felt more pain than pride. 2012 Akron Zips (1-11) 169 Sagarin UCF (10-4) 45 Sagarin L 14-56 @FIU (3-9) 127 Sagarin L 38-41 Morgan St. (3-8) 228 Sagarin W 66-6 @Tennessee (5-7) 56 Sagarin L 26-47 Miami (4-8) 125 Sagarin L 49-56 BG (8-5) 74 Sagarin L 10-24 @Ohio (9-4) 75 Sagarin L 28-34 NIU (12-2) 39 Sagarin L 7-37 @CMU (7-6) 111 Sagarin L 14-35 @KSU (11-3) 60 Sagarin L 24-35 UMASS (1-11) 178 Sagarin L 14-22 @Toledo (9-4) 69 Sagarin L 23-35 2013 Akron Zips (5-7) 137 Sagarin @UCF (12-1) 25 Sagarin L 7-38 JMU (6-6) 131 Sagarin W 35-33 @Michigan (7-6) 44 Sagarin L 24-28 ULL (9-4) 81 Sagarin L 30-35 @BG (10-4) 39 Sagarin L 14-31 Ohio (7-6) 122 Sagarin L 3-43 @NIU (12-2) 59 Sagarin L 20-27 @Miami (0-12) 224 Sagarin W 24-17 BSU (10-3) 70 Sagarin L 24-42 KSU (4-8) 123 Sagarin W 16-7 @UMASS (1-11) 193 Sagarin W 14-13 Toledo (7-5) 68 Sagarin W 31-29 2014 Akron Zips (5-7) 134 Sagarin Howard (5-7) 228 Sagarin W 41-0 @PSU (7-6) 46 Sagarin L 3-21 Marshall (13-1) 23 Sagarin L 17-48 @Pitt (6-7) 61 Sagarin W 21-10 EMU (2-10) 208 Sagarin W 31-6 Miami (2-10) 159 Sagarin W 29-19 @Ohio (6-6) 135 Sagarin L 20-23 @BSU (5-7) 117 Sagarin L 21-35 BG (8-6) 119 Sagarin L 10-27 @Buffalo (5-6) 141 Sagarin L 24-55 UMASS (3-9) 154 Sagarin W 30-6 @KSU (2-9) 169 Sagarin L 24-27 2015 Akron Zips (8-5) 99 Sagarin @OU (11-2) 4 Sagarin L 3-41 Pitt (8-5) 40 Sagarin L 7-24 Sav St. (1-9) 245 Sagarin W 52-9 @ULL (4-8) 141 Sagarin W 35-14 Ohio (8-5) 92 Sagarin L 12-14 @EMU (1-11) 161 Sagarin W 47-21 @BG (10-4) 32 Sagarin L 10-59 CMU (7-6) 79 Sagarin L 6-14 @UMASS (3-9) 125 Sagarin W 17-13 @Miami (3-9) 154 Sagarin W 37-28 Buffalo (5-7) 112 Sagarin W 42-21 KSU (3-9) 167 Sagarin W 20-0 USU (6-7) 76 Sagarin W 23-21 2016 Akron Zips (5-4) 108 Sagarin VMI (3-5) 204 Sagarin W 47-24 @Wisc. Toledo (2013), Pitt (2014) and Utah State (2015). Of that group, only Toledo had a winning record. My apologies for any errors.
  2. Zips fans. . . It's time to stop living a life of delusion. Bowden Ball has produced zero signature wins but several extremely embarrassing losses. Yes, it's better than Ianello but then again, what isn't? Wonder why nobody comes to Infocision Stadium? Nights like tonight. Lord, I want to win so bad.
  3. This defense is perhaps the worst ever.
  4. This defense is perhaps the worst ever.
  5. Downloaded betternet vpn app. It works. Thanks for the hint, Zach!
  6. Nothing works for me.
  7. Uh oh. ESPN3 says game blacked out in my area.
  8. I am hoping for a beatdown tonight. Not just a normal everyday beatdown but a scorched earth war of annihilation beatdown. Does anyone deserve a thrashing at the hands of the Zips more than the University that hired Rob Ianello? No. I hope this is tonight's soundtrack:
  9. Neither do they.
  10. All I heard was scuttlebutt. Someone with some connections could get us some answers. I certainly do not want to spread an untruth and I have absolutely no way to confirm or deny the veracity of what I heard. I heard the rumor earlier this week and the same rumor was circulating at today's tailgate. Where there's smoke, there's fire. . . Or it could all be baloney.
  11. Lots of rumors about Woodson in the parking lot today. If they are true, we have been sold a lie about his status. Can someone with University ties do a little digging for some information and report back?
  12. Best Zips win in a long, long time. Very much more impressive than the Pitt win, if you ask me. Going to bed tonight as a very happy Zips fan. For those of you that want to take pot shots at the "naysayers". . . Give me a break. No one ever came on this board to do anything but give their take. If speaking out when coaching has been bad (and it happens at every level) is a sin, I guess I'm going to Hell. Sports used to be one of the last places where men could be men and not have to worry about the pc police scrutinizing every comment. Every poster who has ever been labeled as a naysayer, Debbie Downer, or a Drano Chugger has been a true blue fan of the Zips. We've lost enough to spread out over a few generations. I want to win, goddamn it and I will not be ashamed for speaking my true feelings and baring my soul on this board. That being said, I will apologize for personal attacks that came from my keyboard. Perhaps, because I never posted behind an anonymous screen name, I felt justified in saying whatever I damn well pleased. I will take my lumps for that and own up to it. Will you please forgive me? It has become patently obvious lately that I have fallen behind the times and I do not have the wherewithal to conduct myself with the proper netiquette required to stay in the good graces of an internet community. I am a dinosaur. Farewell, Zipsnation. I am going back underground as a lurker. I will be around in real life and I hope to see some of you real soon. I can't post any more because I can't have my fandom questioned. I love all things Akron. Forever. I bask in her glories and curse her defeats. I am Akron. Y'all take care & GO ZIPS!
  13. What's with the colored duct tape on the pants? Nice touch.
  14. "Nip & tuck" Bullshit.
  15. That made my day.
  16. We got into Madison Friday morning and took a tool around the stadium first thing and saw Barry Alvarez at the main gate doing a photo session. The campus is a true city campus and parking is at a premium. We ended parking on a residential side street a couple of blocks off Regent Street and walked over to Lucky's to grab a couple of beers and something to eat. Awesome bar. It is an old automotive repair shop with a pretty wide open floor plan. A spot like this would be so awesome on Exchange Street. They serve up a mean soft pretzel. It's equivalent to about 2 loaves of bread, I think. We ventured across the street to the Big Ten but we're a little disappointed there. It is pretty much a restaurant. After spending a couple of hours off campus, we drove downtown and hit The Great Dane Brewery. We are spoiled by the breweries we have in NE Ohio. I'll leave it at that. Just down the street was the Tipsy Cow and we sat on the street there and drank a couple of Surly beers. Finally got to try "Todd the Axe Man" while gazing at the beauty of the Capitol Building. A couple of doors down was the Maduro cigar bar that ate up a couple of hours where we met a nice couple that led us over to The Old Fashioned where we ordered the official drink of Wisconsin, the Brandy Old Fashioned. Great place. This basically wrapped up day one. We drove back to the hotel, ate pizza and hit the sack. Saturday we Ubered down to campus and left the truck at the hotel. Parking is so limited we thought that would be best. We did not see a whole lot of traditional tailgating going on. It is very much a bar scene for pregaming. Literally thousands and thousands of people were partying in not only the bars but the parking lots as well. People were great. Very friendly and cordial. There were a few random assholes that felt the need to say something inflammatory but they were outnumbered 100 to 1. Only place I have ever been with a more welcoming fan base was Tennessee and I think the Vol fans set a pretty high bar there. I hope we can schedule the Badgers again in the future. Much more enjoyable trip than Penn State. The game was a big disappointment because we didn't show up. I did not expect to win, but I was hoping we would give them a game. Bright spots were few and far between. For the first time in years we have someone to return punts. That was great. I am looking forward to seeing Ball in the conference schedule. Offensive play calling and flow was awful again. I don't forsee that getting any better. Those who were hoping to see the TE involved in the passing game have to be disappointed. 2 games 0 catches for the TE's. Defense is in trouble. The replacements for Grice, Coe, Monroe, Evans & Brown are not remotely close in talent level. I was very worried before the season started about the front end and now I know why. Hopefully Amato can do some scheming to help compensate for the defiencies but I think it will just have to play itself out as these guys get more experience. If the Zips get a victory against Marshall or Appalachian State, it will be a pretty big upset. The offense really needs to make some great strides very quickly to have a shot, I think. The defense is not going to win many games this year. We will just to have to wait and see what happens because sometimes good things happen from out of the blue. It's happened before and it can happen again. One more thing. Sorry I get so worked up sometimes. I have a lot of Akron in me. Go Zips.
  17. You are a joke. Show me one example in this thread that I said anything derogatory about the coaching staff. Show me one thing I have posted that constitutes a loser mentality. You questioned my Fandom. I responded. Tell ya what, superfan, I can buy you a drink across the street at Lucky's 1313 if you are such a great fan in about 20 minutes and we can kiss and make up.
  18. Grow up??? I am a grown ass man. Someday, if you are a true fan, you may know <<<maybe>>> not likely, the love I have for the University of Akron. It is my favorite location in the world. Me even responding to your questioning of my fanhood is a joke.
  19. No threats were made. Come on down.
  20. Tell ya what. My name is John Keener. I park right underneath the scoreboard. Come on down and step up to my face and tell me I am an embarrassment. See ya in a couple of weeks.
  21. Everyone who posts here, puffing the Zips into something they're not, please stop posting. You are an embarrassment to our fan base.
  22. Do you need to go to your safe place?
  23. He has been a breath of fresh air, if you ask me.
  24. Akron's new unis looked great Saturday. Kent's? Not so much.
