  1. Put huge Zippy heads on the corners of the jumbotron (or, maybe better yet, the streamlined mean-looking kangaroo head) and have them spray fire out of the nostrils at pivotal points in the game. Same as the Q with the swords (you can feel the heat when they do). Actually, I thought I heard somewhere where the Cavs owner wants a new jumbotron...

Yeah the Q already had one of my favorite scoreboards. But Gilbert announced he wants to bring in a new one that's about 60ft, similar to the ones used in Houston and Indiana. Basically a scaled down version of the Cowboys Stadium scoreboard.

I don't think UA could afford that, so why not just buy the old jumbotron from the Q?

I'd like to see a really nice scoreboard like that, and the "ribbon" boards on the upper deck. Like we have at InfoCision. Great spot for advertising.

  2. Yes, I can understand your disappointment.

19 wins in a row and National Rank #24 is pretty disappointing. Just think where we COULD be if only we were good.

I have enjoyed the winning streak and ranking. But really all that matters is what happens in March. If we don't make the NCAA tournament it will be very disappointing.

  3. 23

I've picked the Zips to win plenty of times. But there are plenty of games I say the Zips could lose and everyone freaks out. Like the Buffalo game on Saturday. We could very well lose that. Overlooking a team after a solid win on the road yesterday. And you can't blame me for feeling discouraged when I see this team fall behind by 20 every game and have to rely on a big run to win.

  4. Surprised to see AKZipper reappear in this thread given his early-game postings last night. "Stick a fork in us. We're done." Something about Zeke and Treadwell being forced to walk home. That's some intelligent insight there!

I never called out any players so do some research first. I did say they we'd lose, but admitted I was wrong after the game.

  5. If you're knocking the crowd, please. Your team would kill for half that kind of support on a Saturday, let alone a rainy Wednesday evening. And your team deserves it. They are legit. Best atmosphere I have seen in the Convo to date.

First of all, we've all experienced the Akron soccer crowds. As far as basketball OhioU fans need to stop throwing out attendance numbers. The JAR only holds over 5,000 so of course we can't have a crowd of 10,000. Last time I checked that's not possible.

  6. I would agree the reffing was probably bad all around tonight. What do you expect out of MAC refs?

However, as for the on-the-line call, it was close. But what difference does it make? After he "saved" it, it went out of bound off of his teammate anyways.

Maybe they are fixing it. Maybe it's all a conspiracy to get 2 teams in the dance? Let Akron win last night, and OhioU win in the championship.

...at least this is what OhioU fans are saying now.

  7. KD just said they will be flying to Buffalo on Saturday to help with the quick turnaround with a game on Tuesday.

    French: "Really?"

KD: "Yeah, that's what big-time programs do Steve."

    Love it!

Is it normal to travel on a game day like that? Seems like it would be smarter to fly to Buffalo on Friday and fly back on Saturday.

  8. Anyone who doesn't think the rest of the games aren't going to be getting tougher and tougher is just fooling themselves. Many times in history a team has finally pulled itself up to a top 25 ranking only to lose soon thereafter. What the Zips have already accomplished and what they're still in the process of accomplishing is darned difficult. There are 347 D-I teams fighting for 25 elite positions in the poll. At this level, it's no longer a game. It's cutthroat competition. It takes tremendous talent, toughness and tenacity to prevail. What's happened in the past is history. What may happen in the future is speculation. Past Zips teams have no bearing on what this team can accomplish. Either you believe that this team has more talent, toughness and tenacity than any previous Zips team or you don't. It's as simple as that.

I honestly don't think this team has done anything to prove they are different than any previous Zips teams. Winning 12 MAC games? Beating a school from a major conference? Beat OhioU in Akron? Beat Can't? All Happened last year. We have 4 games left and can still finish with the same record in conference as last year. Yes 1-3 would be an awful finish, but it's happened before.

  9. I'm starting to see what some people mean when they point out or eternal pessimists.

I wouldn't say there are many pessimists around here, mostly just me. It's just tough to think of a positive outcome since we haven't been able to beat OhioU away from Akron in quite some time.

  10. Unfortunately I don't think the MAC has the potential to be a 2-bid league anytime soon. The Zips will always be a team that starts the season slow, and loses a handful of games they shouldn't. Bad losses and a weak schedule end most of our seasons in disappointment. We are the best team in the MAC, but anything can happen in the tournament. Right now there are 12 teams in the MAC that all have the same likelihood of making the NCAA tournament. If they want to avoid it next season they need to start strong.

  11. The Akron fans have been talking a ton of smack on twitter to all the Ohio players for weeks. It goes both ways. As for that article, it fails to mention Walsh's tweet and Akron fans tweets. The "fan blog" called Ohio fans hill-people and then asked Akron fans to tweet at Reggie. Classy journalism. Journalism at its finest.

No there is one clown in particular (probably you) who has been trashing Akron for about a month. Akron fans didn't start tweeting anything until after the OhioU dude called out Walsh.
