I just feel like any amount of money the investment group puts into the Rubber Bowl, they will never get back in profits from the USFL team. While I think the league's unique structure might give it a chance, too many of these leagues fail. Still seems bizarre that the group bought a run down stadium, when Infocision one of the nicest stadiums in the country is right across town. Definitely a place that could use a spring tenant and wouldn't conflict with the Zips. Probably didn't want to lose out on concessions, but in reality the $ spent to fix it up will be much more loss.
I hate to say it, but most Akron residents will see the Fire the same way they do the Zips. Where the Buckeyes overshadow the Zips, the Browns will overshadow the Fire.

Do you seriously think Akron will get an at-large bid? I mean Akron should focus on winning the MAC before a Final Four or National title. Not to mention, the Ohio win Saturday is one game. Ohio was outplayed and Akron played incredibly well. But don't think it will happen like that again.
No one around here is predicting Final Four or National Title. Chill out.

In all honesty the Zips haven't done anything yet to deserve national recognition. Winning the MAC and making it to the tourney should be the goal. Nothing for the rest of this season is a guarantee. Let the performance on the court do the talking and people will notice.

Apparently NBC Sports didn't get the memo. The only reason we won against Ohio was because the Zips couldn't miss all game. We made 6 3's and Ohio was only able to make 7. The fact that Akron had double the amount of rebounds had no influence on the outcome...

We had votes last year too.
Yes we got votes after the Mississippi State game, but went on to lose 5 of 7. So my pessimistic view tells me that getting votes can be a very bad thing for the Zips...

I feel like his comments were out of line. No one is guaranteeing us to make the tournament or making a deep run. All that has been said is that is the team's goals and we easily have the potential. I think what people outside of the program haven't realized yet is we aren't even playing our best basketball. The OhioU game was a step in the right direction. Who knows if they will reach their potential, but anything is possible. Just need to take it a game at a time and don't overlook any opponent. The worst thing that could happen is a let down game against CMU.

Yep. Criticize the whole hashtag promotion...coming from a fanbase that capitalizes any ou sequence in their posts. I call dOUble dOUchebaggery on that practice.
Pretty bad when the only thing they can criticize us for is a successful marketing promotion.

What still has me confused is OhioU people keep saying "Akron couldn't miss" and Ohio "went cold". I just don't understand how people can say that when the Zips only made 6 3's and OhioU made 7. Both shot in the 30% range. All the rest of the Zips scoring was in the paint which is our strength. So I guess we got "lucky"...

I still think we'll only see about 3500 Tuesday and that's a shame. I think we have a solid shot at 17 straight heading into Athens, though Miami and EMU aren't road cupcakes.
I think we can get a bit of nicer crowd than that. KD made some good points after the game that the student turnout has been much improved. Even going as far as saying that the atmosphere has been similar to the soccer games. Maybe that's the one positive of the soccer program being on the downswing, students need a team to gravitate towards and basketball is putting itself in that position.

Good point. I just think we need to keep things in perspective. Beating them today was nice, but this team can achieve much more...
If UA can take anything else positive from this game it's that we have outgrown the JAR. Time to move on already!

Akron did not have to make a run in the second have to win the game. The Zips made their run in the first half to overcome the big OU early lead.
So, in a way, you were correct. Think of it that way.
Yes I will admit I was wrong. The beginning of the game was very frustrating but I'm glad the Zips proved me wrong. I will enjoy the win but we need to remember it was just one game. The season will come down to the MAC tournament. Winning now is fun, but the fans and team need to know that the games at the end of the season will matter MUCH more. Remember we beat OhioU last year in Akron and struggled in the next two matchups. I really hope there is not a repeat. Stay grounded Zips fans!

Seems like every game this season they start out sluggish. Then we find ourselves sitting here at halftime saying "well the Zips will need to make a run in the 2nd half". Honestly I'm tired of it. I don't know what it will take to get this team motivated to start a game, but it hasn't happened yet. They were lucky to come back against Can't, Buffalo, and the other dozen teams this year. How many times to they think they can go on 16-0 runs? It's not going to happen against OhioU even if we're more talented. OhioU 72 Akron 60...

Someone on twitter called him "a poor man's Ivo Baltic" which was strange because I had to do a google search to find out who "Ivo Baltic" was. I think it's fine for them to show ignorance on their own message board. But some of the stuff/actions I have seen by them on twitter are very disappointing and I will leave it at that...

I actually don't think Nike had anything to do with these uniforms. If I recall correctly, teams like Akron usually pick from a Nike or Adidas catalog which jersey "template" they want to use. The manufacturers just send the school uniforms in whichever colors they pick and a local seamstress adds on numbers and logos. Nike only really designs uniforms for the big schools willing to pay for it, OSU, Oregon, Syracuse, etc. This is the reason you'll see dozens of teams wearing the same type of jerseys like the Zips, just different colors.
As for the NCAA I don't really care that they squashed the @ZipsMBB. I honestly think we are getting WAY more press just by being denied the request. It was a win-win attempt by UA. But for the rest of the season I hope we can be known for the play on the court!!
I say since we're wearing the "Z" jerseys the Rowdies should steal the hand sign from Dude Where's My Car

I see nothing has changed in Akron since the 1960's!
I graduated a few years ago and remember getting emails about robberies (similar to the Ohio U situation) every couple of days. I guess in light of recent events it doesn't hurt to be too cautious. Hopefully no one was injured...

Thanks. I can see why he deleted it now, but he did just tweet there's nothing to any rumors of him transferring. Happy in WY and just supporting his hometown.
This topic has a "Lebron to Cavs in 2014" feel to it. Lot of over-thinking and wishful thinking it seems.
