  1. Troll, don't you have your own board to bloviate on?

btw, get a new screen name that traitor has been selling used cars for several years now.

gawd, I hope ZipsNation posters are not infesting the OU gagpile.

Honestly I don't care what they think or have to say. I just don't see them as a rival. Thinking Bigger is a motto meant for more than the MAC. If we spend our time worrying about MAC schools we aren't setting high enough goals. I don't care what other MAC schools have done in the past Elite8, Sweet Sixteen, BCS, CWS all that matters right now is this season. Wednesday's game means just as much as Saturday's.

  2. I like the "Z" but it actually looks like it needs a little tweaking to my eyes.

I actually like how the "Z" in the zips logo at the top of this board looks slightly more stylized and sleek when compared to the standalone Z logo.

What is a zip anyway? Ignoring the story of it's origins, "zip" implies something quick. I think the "Z" should be lower and sleeker and leaning into it's long points more, like a bent bolt of power.

I think with the right tweaks to be dashing and potent, and made prevalent, the Z symbol could indeed be turned into a recognizable brand like The X alluded to above, for the reasons mentioned above, because there really wouldn't be much competition for recognizably.

I think there's a difference between the Z and X. Xavier is the school name, where as Zips is only our nickname. That's why I think the A-Zippy logo has to always be prominent, with Z only used as a secondary mark. I do think a metallic gold Z would look awesome on the side of a blue football helmet...

  3. I do like the emphasis on the Z. It's an uncommon letter in college basketball team names. The only association that pops into my head is the Zona nickname adopted by the University of Arizona. Used in creative ways, Z could easily become a simple and unique identifier for the Zips in the same way that X is associated with Xavier.

Gonzaga has "Zags" but there official nickname is Bulldogs, so that's similar to Zona. I think they even had a black "Zags" jersey a few seasons back. I believe the Zips are the only team with an actual team/nickname beginning with Z. That's the one part of our history that I'm most proud of. With all the bulldogs, tigers, cardinals, bobcats, wildcats, bears, etc in sports, it's refreshing to have something original.

  4. On a related note to the attendance, if the JAR is going to be more packed like this on a regular basis, they need to find a better way to allow freedom of movement. If you're a lowly GA season ticket holder like me, the track in front of the upper chairbacks was off limits. That means everyone had to use the track on the other side, but that track was full of standing people. The camera people building their cameras right on that track didn't help either. I understand worrying about people going into seats they don't have tickets for, but if you're going to force traffic to one area, you need to keep that area open.

    Good problems to have, though...

It's okay UA is going to build an arena of 3000. That should take care of all the problems.

  5. I'm less concerned with who started it than with how we can stop it. It's getting on my nerves, now that EVERYONE wants to do it.

Unfortunately almost all of the Rowdies chants are taken from other schools. My least favorite is easily "You can't do that", since I've heard it at about 99% of the college and lower level basketball games I've been to.

  6. I can't figure out if it's for sure or not either.

If the NCAA says no though, i'd do it anyway. Pay the fine and give ESPN the scoop on the NCAA picking on us over something trivial. The fine would be well worth the publicity.

    Speaking of the NCAA

Iowa wanted to wear TRIBUTE jerseys for former player Chris Street, star forward who passed away in a car accident in 1993. The Hawkeyes planned to wear uniforms that all had "Street" as the last name. NCAA denied their request. Similar to our request, but I feel like it's pretty low to deny a team a request for a tribute. But the NCAA did allow Providence to wear green jerseys with Sandy Hook in place of the name on the back. If I'm the NCAA I don't see a problem with tributes like that.

  7. when's the last time Can't lost 3 in a row in mac play.

It's almost like they sold their bb soul for fb

If I had my choice I would choose to be successful at football rather than basketball. I'm sure Can't and NIU fans feel about the same right now. To me it seems easier for a team to be ranked and make a BCS game, than make a run to the Final Four. We'd never make it to either, but for most mid-major's that would be the goal.

  8. Zeke taunting? Well that would be a new one. They didn't announce the reason for the T at the JAR, but everyone assumed it was for hanging on the rim. Perhaps Zeke said something to one of the Buffalo players who mauled him on his way up for the dunk, and it was interpreted as taunting. Maybe GameChngr44 will let us know what really happened.

I watched that dunk a few times and just don't see anything wrong. Could have been something he said, but physically it only could have been hanging on the rim. The ironic thing was a Buffalo player had a similar dunk at the other end a few minutes earlier. Had a dunk, hung on for about 10 seconds longer than Zeke, got the and-1 call, and proceeded to yell something at one of the Akron players. Crazy after I think I've seen it all by MAC officials, they do something even more bizarre. But hey we won and I'm happy about that.

  9. GoZips.com box score had attendance at 5403. UA better be careful with these big crowds, what are they going to do when our 3000 person arena is built??

Would be nice to see that the rest of the season. We have Ohio and Can't, so that's two more 5+. The others are CMU, BG, and Miami and probably won't get that. All depends on how long we can keep the season's "momentum" going. A loss will really hurt "Joe Akron's" excitement over Zips basketball.

Also #ZipsGameday has been trending in Cleveland for quite some time...

  10. I actually really like it. Might look better on a navy uniform with gold logos and numbers though...

I believe the tweet above mentioning "#" was sarcastic. As in it would have the number "44" on the front, not an actual hashtag...

I do think it would be a good idea to put a #FearTheRoo, #GoZips or @Something on the court somewhere. Quite a few NBA teams have done it.
