Sorry, I can't get too excited about a win over an winless FBS team.
Aside from maybe two nice passes from Finley and a few good plays on defense there wasn't much positive to take away from this game. The offense never got into a rhythm and were assisted by a handful of dumb Colgate penalties.
An average MAC team would have blown out that team. We have a long way to go and all 3 facets need to get better.

Why the heck are the Zips throwing with 2 minutes left in the game? Run the clock out and end this.
Even though I picked Colgate to cover, I want this game to be over with.

Colgate has done a great job out Akroning us here. If the defense keeps making stops we'll be just fine.

I take that back. Now we are at the lowest point.
Finley runs around and throws the ball from the Zips sideline while the lineman takes a cheap shot.

You've got to be kidding me.

It's crazy how far we've come from this:
To having the best uniforms in the MAC, and potentially the country.
I just hope gold pants exist and we see a gold/blue/gold set at some point. Maybe add some blue helmets in the mix too.

I still have faith in Joe. He's been dealt a really difficult hand with taking over such a moribund program that was at the absolute lowest point. And now the budget cuts.
I still like this team. The P5 September meat grinder will end soon enough and I expect a .500 season in the MAC. Finley will get some time to throw, and the RB's will get some holes to hit. That'll give the D a few breathers. Pushing up against opposing linemen who will be selling pipe and wire in a couple years instead of playing in the NFL will also help the Zips finish games stronger.
Something about NE Ohio football fans and losing their minds after a few games. Between the Zips and Browns, I have watched nothing but losing ball for almost my entire life. I'm not going to give up after 0-2. Especially when the Zips first 4 games are against two BigTen teams and one SEC team. Just have to stay as healthy as possible and hope for the best during conference play.
Having said that, if we don't win Saturday by double digits I may join the doomers lol.

I'm not going to say anything about Kent until we play Colgate. At this point, I'm just expecting the worst.

Where was that all first half?!
-
Yup not our day. Can't expect you to hang with a Big Ten team if you can't even get plays off on time. Not to mention a complete collapse to end the first half.
Really thought our offense would be impressive under Finley. Super conservative playcalling. But honestly he seems inconsistent and the receivers aren't doing him any favors.

While we ask Joe to clean up his act I'd like to ask the equipment manager to give the players white shirts for under their jerseys. That way when they pull up their white jersey over their bellies they don't show a wide band of blue, almost like a cumberbun. It makes us look like we've got no pride in the uni. This has been a pet peeve of mind since last season. Agree with me or not, but I feel the team has to project pride in their appearance and play. End of rant.
There's this weird trend in football and has been going on for years. It's even been added to video games.
Players wearing big baggy undershirts that are sometimes a different color than the actual jersey. Really doesn't make any sense to me because manufacturers talk about all this technology that makes jerseys lighter, tighter, more breathable, etc. Yet wearing a big shirt underneath all that just defeats the purpose. Not only that, it gives defenders something else to grab onto.
Could be worse though. Remember when a Duquesne football player went viral for looking like Fred Mertz out there?

The scoreboard not being ready by the home opener would be absolutely inexcusable.
Especially since they've literally had like 8 months since the last home game to get it up and they announced the new video board back in July.

Celebrate! We are better, but not by much if you measure us on today's performance against OSU. Defense is a strength if they aren't out there forever. Playcalling was good, thanks Joe. Running game sucked. Our OL is better, but has a long way to go. Where was our supposedly all-world lineman from Florida, Seymore? We are headed for another 2-10 if Taj is our QB, he has not improved his passing. No passing that stretched the D. Where was Adams? Without a running game we were too easy to defend, especially by one of the country's best D's. There is reason for hope since we started with the best team in the country, but don't buy into the thought that we will excel against the MAC. We have too many weaknesses to address. We have a shot at 4-8. Solve our problems (OL, QB, RB, Special teams) and we can go 5-7 or 6-6.
I didn't get to watch much of the game but we did seem to hang with OSU for at least 3 quarters or so. It's encouraging yes. But I feel like this happens every season that I've been a Zips fan. We hang tough against the big boys, but can't deal the deal. Then have a mediocre run in MAC play.
Not trying to be a doomer, because I want to be excited. Just feels like we really don't know our team until we start conference play.

He was my future after Finley in CFB25😂. Played 3 years after redshirt and went like 28-10 for me me over that span
😂 Not going to lie I've had way more fun playing that game than anything else that has come out in decades. I won two National Championships with Finley and then recruited a mobile QB. He's a 99 speed but sucks at everything else. I just run around all game.

To other schools where they they believe they have a better chance of starting.
This is how it works now in the age of the transfer portal. Can't expect decent athletes to stick around and ride the bench.
We just have to take it one season at a time and hope for the best.

I grew up in Erie, PA and a few dozen of us ended up going to UA. We loved the campus and were willing to pay extra (I still am lol) for out-of-state tuition. It seemed like every year there was a huge chunk of gradating seniors heading to UA from our area. But now? There's almost none. I just don't get why the University isn't seen in the same light anymore. I feel like it's way better than any school NW Pennsylvania. But for some reason kids here just aren't even considering it anymore.

It's crazy how the scoreboard never seemed very big. But seeing those workers in the cherrypicker really put's it into perspective.
That new board is going to look really nice. I just wish they would have gone all-out and filled over the analog scoreboard space with video board too. That's still going to look outdated.

QB1 posted some better shots of the new unis on Instagram.
New stripes are consistent across both sets. Gold-white-blue-white-gold. Also upgraded to the latest Nike jersey template. The Zips are now using the same uniforms as the NFL and big CFB programs. Numbers have been updated to match the new Zips brand font. Similar to the numbers being used by all other sports. It's a small detail, but I really like the consistency.
I really hope they keep gold pants in the rotation. They look really nice when paired with a gold helmet and navy jersey. Wonder what helmet options we'll see? Most likely white, but I'd love them to bring back matte navy.

I honestly hope not. I'd much rather go to Cleveland, the Bahamas, or wherever and play real teams on a neutral court. We already play enough cupcakes at the JAR every year. Using the MTE to schedule more is a waste.
Hosting a tournament in Cleveland makes more sense. A legitimate arena and more exposure for teams, while cementing Cleveland as our territory when it comes to college basketball. We own the city when it comes to MAC tournament time. Let's do it earlier in the season too.

Anyone who is going, please post pics! The practice courts look awesome from the few shots I've seen, but I'd love to see the whole place.

I'd add that the new Teambuilder might be the coolest feature of the entire game. While the stadium structures are locked in, you can upload whatever logos or graphics you want. Old Zippy logos, old wordmarks, script Akron, doesn't matter. You can build out 5 different uniform sets with different helmets and finishes for everything.
They mentioned that real logos wouldn't be allowed due to copyright laws, but there are several Akron teams on the servers already. As well as real FCS schools.

0-2 on field goals in my first game with Akron. It's very realistic
Did you throw an interception your first pass too?
I literally missed every field goal until I realized you have to aim with the joystick.

College Football 25 Patch was released yesterday.
Seems like these are being released every 2-3 weeks. Still no fixes for Akron's incorrect field logo and no new uniforms. Not sure how they can updated 22 teams, but Akron keeps getting ignored.
