I would think Garvin Clarke is somehow connected to this. Pretty cool if so.
-
Agree. Obviously expect him to have potential based on where he’s coming from. But 2.9ppg from Ole Miss on 20% from 3 doesn’t have me super excited. At least he isn’t BVP though right

It has not been in the past.

Any transfer we are going to get is either going to be a player who felt they were “too good” for their situation or clearly not “good enough” for their situation. Choose wisely. I want the best players for our team. I don’t care if they come from Ohio, Long Beach State, or Wake Forest. I’m not going to pretend I know if a player doesn’t have a team oriented attitude or won’t commit to playing defense. Coaches job is to vet that.

Do better than 1st team All MAC player?? Our window is now and he’s a perfect fit. Sign me up.

On my phone, but we got a commit from Nate Thompson, a safety from Duke who appears to have been at least a part time starter.

Well with that, the losses Buffalo, OU, and now Toledo are going to have..it appears to be a 2 horse race next year with us and Kent. Can't wait to see how Groce & Co decide to address the 3 open schollies.

Genuine question - based on what? His only HC experience is at Xavier and he failed to ever sniff the dance there. Finished 3rd in conference his first year, then 6th, 7th, and 8th following that. Never made it past 2nd round of NIT.

April 30th can't get here soon enough! Just hope its an actual scrimmage rather than whatever Arth did (mostly just drills and maybe very little 11 on 11 with no tackling IIRC).

Position Preview (and updates) - Defensive Line

Great write up as always. I wonder if we will run a 3-4, 4-3, or if its situational. Remember Nick Toth was the DC, something happened there, then Tibesar was brought in to replace. I'd think Moorhead would want to replace Toth with someone who is planning to run a similar scheme, but I haven't dug into it really. My general thoughts on both the DL and OL: Not really super high on personnel across the board, but for the first time in a long time, we have both depth and experience on both sides. I'd think we can find some lineups that will stick and be formidable. -
RB from Kansas State, who should be joining us in the summer. From what I can tell, only played in one game ever at K State. Still should have 3 years of eligibility considering the extra COVID year. Either one of Norrils or Williams are gone, or we're going to have the most capable backs on the roster in as long as I can recall, with 4 guys competing for playing time (Wiley, Price, Williams, and Norrils).

Yes sir to all. I've attached the most current version. Don't pay attention to the class years as I know some of GoZips roster is wrong, so waiting to update those. Looks like they aren't reflecting last year's redshirts. Also, I wouldn't pay much attention to the special teams player names. More-so just assuming the starting Long snapper, Kicker, and Punter are all on scholly. The current roster is missing additional Arth era players Deacon Allen (OL) and Rey Noi Summerset (OLB). Both were freshman last year and I don't believe played at all. There is one Moorhead signee not showing up yet - OL Keylen Davis Zips Football Scholarship Chart.xlsx

Can't agree more with your take among this group. Scholarship guesses are spot on as well. I do think one player ends up transferring out after spring ball. We've got 4 guys expecting playing time (Brank, Og, Yarmo, and Banks), and they aren't all going to get it barring injuries. I keep a scholarship chart that isn't 100%, but pretty accurate. Fact is we don't always hear about walk-ons getting put on scholly or official status of players who transfer in over the summer, so assumptions get made. Holding off on posting for now as the roster online needs to have class levels fixed.

Now this I agree with.

Class of '23 Offers & Verbal Commits
LZIp replied to Blue & Gold's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
His athleticism does look good. You can tell the HS doesn't have many players recruited...I feel the hudl film doesn't do him many favors. Hard to spot and little reps on OL, which appears to be the position he's getting recruited. BTW - quite positive all of Mumpfield, Gibson, and Mathison combined had no more than one FBS offer between them. I like taking a flyer on diamonds in the rough. Low risk (move them on while underclassman if they aren't showing anything), high reward. -

We are really pushing it close then with our April 30th spring game. Not going to give much time for the players leaving to get in there lol. -

South Point OH is named very appropriately. Aren't going to find much out there on Mr. Long besides his short Hudl film. Seems basically non-existent on social media outside of his twitter profile with 2 posts. -
This is a good point.

Position Preview (and updates) - Wide Receiver

I really liked Arth's last WR class of Singleton, Mumpfield, Gathings, and Walker. Mumpfield obviously gone. We saw some flashes from Singleton last year as a true freshman (though he got banged up some). Gathings was out all year injured, and as far as I know Walker was fine but didn't get PT...but his HS tape was explosive as hell. Shockey and Adams should at worst case be solid MAC WRs. Its really hard for me NOT to be excited about a young WR from LSU. Not playing young isn't an indictment against him IMO considering that talent that comes out of there, which is in the same tier of OSU and Bama. We know Scippio and Grimes are capable of playing at this level as well, though there probably just-a-guy at most. I think we'll be pleasantly surprised with this group. -

Count me in as believing in Irons' potential if the turnovers can get cleaned up. I'd like him to maintain his health as well. He was beat up last year and I recall reading about injuries in JUCO as well. Better O-line will help, but avoiding the contact and sliding or stepping out of bounds every now and then will too. -
Winning the regular season is nice, but if not, I don't really give a damn where we finish in the regular season. I want NCAA tournament bids and win(s) in it. I believe thats what many of us were expecting sometime in the next two years considering the youth and assumed returning talent to the team.
