  1. As Zach stated above, Lolla burned bridges as he left. UA would never consider him; and Lolla would never return.
  2. And effectively OUT of championship contention. Such a waste to a very promising season! Should we be bitter at the Timbers for doing this right now?
  3. I would think it would hurt team chemistry, take their minds off business. It would be difficult for a player to buy-in to a team concept.
  4. I beg your pardon! Ken Lolla's tenure ended on a high note, with a 3 or 4 very strong years, but nothing compared to Porter's stellar record. Lolla's first decade was, to be charitable, mediocre. Do not assume that we will attain these heights again.
  5. Well, let us begin the Porter to Chivas rumor right here.
  6. Exactly. Do not believe that we cannot slip back into mediocrity. I am beginning to feel sick.
  7. Why are we to assume Embick succeeds Porter? Porter is an extremely charismatic leader, like few others. The primary thing he does better than his peers is recruit. I do not insinuate that Embrick cannot do these things. From all accounts, Embrick is a fine coach. But I can rattle off a list of coaches who can organize tactics, build strategy, and teach young men. Replacing Porter will not be easy. It would be foolish to think the program would not suffer at his departure.
  8. Then we should keep him.
  9. His end goal is to coach the USMNT. Klinnsman wants him to eventually take a pro job.
  10. Porter: “He’s not an elite athlete and he’s not the fastest guy, but he’s one of the most technical players I’ve coached and one of the smartest players I’ve coached. We built our style around possession and there is no one better out there when it comes to possessing the ball.” That pretty much sums it. He is technically flawless and seemingly ambidextrous. Note how Caldwell always passes with the correct foot, keeping his body between the defender and the ball. Most professionals cannot do this, mostly striking the ball with their dominant foot! Efficient technique compensates for moderate athleticism, as does superb endurance. Also to Caldwell’s credit is excellent tactical awareness. He will likely enjoy a solid professional career. If he so chooses, I think he would make a phenomenal head coach someday.
  11. The two hosts (whoever they are) and Beaven bring up all the points I would. Negatives 1. The contract buy-out is 300,000.00 American dollars. 2. The Olympic debacle still stings. 3. No professional coaching experience has he. 4. Just the beginning of the 2012 season. Timing is bad. 5. Timbers front office is in shambles. 6. Short-term prospects at Akron are fantastic. 7. He is almost guaranteed some other professional opportunity.
  12. Unattributed sources have named me to succeed Porter as head coach.
  13. Has Porter's acceptance been confirmed?
  14. Yes, FGCU had much more of the ball than I would like.
  15. I thought the same.
  16. You may be right. Introduce yourself tomorrow and explain it to me. I have never totally understood how the academy thing works.
  17. We will see that again.
  18. Yes, I recall feeling so dejected after the NCAA took away our home tourney match, and then Zakuani turned pro. From where was the scoring to come? How do we replace 20 goals? It seems laughable now.
  19. Precedent has been set. We now expect all injured body parts to tweet their respective injury progress. ie. Barson’s big toe, Caldwell’s cranium, Embick’s ear, etc.
  20. "The privilege of absurdity; to which no living creature is subject, but man only."
  21. Gods be good! The Others take this MLS drivel!
  22. Yes, I believe this award exclusively considers seniors.
  23. We consistently hear about collegiate athletes turning professional long before graduating. This class is on schedule for graduation, or better.
  24. What does #17 know of Derschang's and Trapp's injuries?
