  1. Here. Where everybody at? My hat says Akron Soccer. Duh. At the bar. Duh. Next to tap. Say hi.
  2. http://www.phillysoccerpage.net/2017/12/07/ncaa-college-cup-semifinals-preview-akron-vs-stanford/comment-page-1/
  3. Roll Call for J Dublin's Pour House!!!! Who you gonna be? Where you gonna be at?
  4. That’s what I’m talkin’ ‘bout!
  5. I remember seeing 4 o’clock on an email notice. Somewhere in stadium parking lot.
  6. Our freshmen Center Backs are the backbone of this team, to the surprise of everyone except maybe our coaches. These two are very different type players who compliment each other uncannily well. Moutinho is unorthodox and daring. Strachan is fundamental and rock steady. They are ying and yang. There is currently no better tandem in NCAA.
  7. Come On Man! Where the watch party at? I cannot get off work Friday. Going Sunday, but Friday is in Ohio.
  8. Your posting is pointed and succinct. I like your sentence structure. I love your fervor. You have a distinct voice and it is certainly welcome here. Return often. But you need not ever doubt the devotion of Zip_ME87 to Zips Soccer. He does not need me vouching for him, but I will anyway. Perhaps he did not articulate precisely (this once), but you can always assume he is pulling for the Zips Soccer. No bout a doubt it!
  9. Commence flogging. World football is one of the most significant social dynamics in human history. Let that settle a moment. Over 250 million worldwide are actively involved in Association Football, at this posting. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_football How many worldwide have played the sport at some point in their lifetime? How many are tangentially involved? How many are merely fans? Surely that is a 10 digit number. In comparison, 2.25 billion of the 7.1+ billion on the planet claim to be Christian, currently the World's most popular religion. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_population_growth Take another moment. USA either joins in on the fun, or we don't. The World generally does not care if we do or we do not forge American Soccer. We on this forum care about Soccer at Akron (definitely), and in the USA. ESPN cares. Nike cares. FOX Sports cares. NBC Sports cares. These folks want to make money. They are sick that we missed Russia 2018. But The World is apathetic toward US Soccer; they do not need us.
  10. I hear you. A much narrower field would be a factor. Remember playing in Buffalo? But 2 yards difference is not enough to dramatically affect style. Much greater a factor was Louisville dropping their whole team behind the Gridiron 40 yard line as soon as they lost possession. It was obvious that they had been coached to do so. Though a couple yards narrower, Lollaville field is immaculate, every bit as good as Cub Cadet (which is saying something). And Lynn Stadium? BY FAR the best I have ever seen in NCAA. Unbelievable!
  11. It is not as though things were going to get easier. Contrasting styles will be even more pronounced and obvious than in the last match. Stanford is much more direct than even Louisville, who were quite noticeably reliant upon the counter attack for offense. Expect frequent vertical long balls over the top, sometimes from the Midfield, often straight out of the back. This is the Soccer equivalent to running the Power I formation in Gridiron. Stanford will make Akron prove that our Center Backs can match the athleticism of their Forwards, primarily Foster Langsdorf http://www.gostanford.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=11632 . Stanford Defense is anchored, held down, by Center Back Thomas Hilliard-Arce http://www.gostanford.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=11628 , arguably the best player in the land. Stanford has not allowed a NCAA Tournament goal since late in the second half of the 2015 Quarterfinal vs. Wake Forest. As a point of reference, that is the match before Stanford met Akron in the 2015 College Cup. Hilliard-Arce is big, strong, skilled, and mean. I expect that anyone reading this knows that Stanford are the 2-time defending champion going for a 3-peat. It will take Zips' very best game to send home the champion. We can beat them, but we must be very sharp to do it.
  12. Do not be fooled by Lolla's apparent indifference. Losing to Akron at home hurts him bad.
  13. How was the Watch Party? Will there be another on Friday?
  14. Dude, I was in knots. Cards fans celebrating all about me.
  15. Great! Just outside of Cincinnati, and NOW you mention a watch party.
  16. On a thread entitled Wisconsin Badgers, we have now devoted more real estate to the PA system than to our epic victory over said Mustelids. Shame on me. Shame on all of us. Overall, I am grateful for a stadium about which I can complain. For decades we had next to nothing. If necessary, someone please start a thread about the PA system at FES CCF. I will happily take my bitch there. Go Zips! edit: Playing music while students are chanting is much more grievous offense that playing music loudly.
  17. I would love to learn the juicy details surrounding the Grand Theft Moped perpetration.
  18. At the age of nine, Zakuani attracted interest from West Ham United's youth program. He later tried out for the youth team of Queens Park Rangers, and in 1997, he joined the Arsenal Academy. Zakuani became cocky and brash while not focusing on schoolwork and was released. His off-the-field issues culminated in serious injuries when he was involved in a crash while riding on a moped that one of his friends had stolen. Zakuani was unable to play for 18 months. After losing interest in soccer and renewing his efforts in school, his teacher and mentor Paul Goodison took him to watch motivational speaker and evangelist Myles Munroe. This inspired Zakuani to renew his commitment to becoming a professional player and, although unsuccessful, he tried out for the senior teams of Queens Park Rangers, Wigan Athletic, AZ Alkmaar, and Real Valladolid.[1]
