  1. Harrison good. Harkes good. Gamble is fantastic. Definite pro. He tore up Zips. Is he injured? WF is the best team I have watched in 2015, Zips opponent or otherwise. WF and Akron play same style; they are just better at it than we are.
  2. Frankly, I am more worried about Laryea's yellow card accumulation.
  3. According to Victor, his NCAA suspension is over.
  4. Laryeas YC was stupid. I told him as much after the match. I believe he is now has 4 YCs, with the 5th carrying a 1 match suspension. It is very possible, maybe even likely, that Richie will be suspended for the UCLA match.
  5. Yes, the PKs were legit. There actually could have been five PKs. Spartans are a good side but they kept slide tackling in the box. Any slide tackle anywhere runs the risk of being called foul. One of the PKs was for Handling, which can happen to anyone on any given night. Unlucky but still legit.
  6. Creighton @ Georgetown looms large in Zips' destiny.
  7. I love Souto's goal from distance. That is what he is attempting every time he blasts one into the Softball diamond. God knows we have seen that more than twice. Keep shooting, Victor! Zips' fourth goal (Richie's third) was exquisite. The video barely catches Gainford's one-touch assist at about 01:30. What the video misses is that this was the culmination of a text-book build-up to Gainford's dish. I counted five consecutive one-touch/two-touch passes leading to Laryea's score. The last pass from Gainford was perfect, professional level. It has been years since Zips have dominated an opponent like they did Huskies.
  8. Wow! That was some match to watch! End to end throughout. Good. I never want to see Porter in the college ranks again.
  9. For the CSN projection to come to fruition, for Akron to gain a top 4 seeding, they must accomplish these four things: NOT lose the rest of the way; a draw or two can be sustained providing the other criteria are met. Beat Michigan State. Beat UCLA. Win the MAC bid.Accomplish all these four and the Akron Zips will hosts until Kansas City!
  10. College Soccer News project Zips with the 3rd seed in the tournament. To be taken with a grain of salt; those hasks don't even proofread their own mess.
  11. Captain Ruhaak!
  12. TDS under-rates Daniel Branch at 3 stars. Notice how Christopher Brennan is not shown as committed.
  13. On the webstream, Souders YC looked head to head, no elbow. Very aggressive and tough, but not dirty. Andrew was a bit late on the tackle. Yellow was warranted. Straight red would have been egregiously harsh. I thought Buffalo's PK was a soft call, as was Zips' second PK. ***************** We are in October now. Zips should convert every single chance from the spot - for the rest of the year. Seriously. How many have we missed this year? ALL PKs should be converted, on every level, every league, every age group, every country. Obstacles are purely psychological. Players routinely accomplish much more difficult tasks than striking a stationary ball from the hash mark. Were Akron historically better at PKs, Zips might have 4 stars on our shirts intead of only one (2005, 2009, 2012). This PK discussion (I am currently having with myself) almost justifies a dedicated thread.
  14. And so the annual erosion of our RPI begins. Will this webstream be free?
  15. Tyler Sanda is developing into a serviceable "target" classic Centre Forward. He is thick and strong. He receives the ball in traffic, with back to goal, and holds it, waits for support. Good to see Sanda playing extended minutes. No one else on Zips roster does the things mentioned above. This gives Embick yet another option.
  16. I watched all of it. Very sloppy field, or as we used to say, "screw-in weather." UAB announcers called us the Akron Racers for the entire first half.
  17. It would be easy for Zips to look past this one - at their peril.
  18. Akron 1-0 Penn State http://www.gozips.com/sports/msoc/2015-16/releases/20150930x5u9d4 http://www.gopsusports.com/sports/m-soccer/spec-rel/093015aaa.html Akron squandered numerous chances to score during flow of play. PK was well deserved and well taken. Lineup change @ UCSB seems to have become permanent. The addition of Radjen seems to have solidified the back line. Souders improves his pro stock every time he plays outside by demonstrating that he can play anywhere along the back. Shultz and Souders inexplicably swapped sides several times. Soares is one tough customer. He lacks speed, agility, and grace. His skill is average. But he tackles really hard and he is rarely out of position. I like him in the starting eleven, just to set the tone. Freshman Belana has relieved Soares every match. I like that rotation: Soares first half, Belana second half. Belana is more skilled, more talented, and more creative than Soares. A handful of others contributed from the bench, namely Stuart Holthusen and Sean Sepe. Quality win versus a traditional foe.
