Understood about Wil having duties to both his hometown and to his employer. And what is the infraction anyway? Cavorting with a mascot? But we would be remiss if we did not give him the business. He is one of us. He can take a ribbing when needs be.

Wil, we know you are out there. You must take multiple pics with Zippy as atonement. Only then will we forgive you.

True Story: August, 2009. I was watching pre-season practice directly after mowing my lawn. Like so many in this state, I did so wearing an old, beat-up, dirty Buckeyes cap that was barely even intact. You know, the kind of hat with the ring of salt deposits from all the sweat. Nice. Anyway. As the Zips were leaving the practice field, I shouted encouragement, something generic like “Championship this year, boys!”. CP looked directly at me through the twilight. Stopped. He walked deliberately over to me. He recognized me even if he could not identify me by name. Within five feet of me, he pointed his finger in my face, those crazy intense eyes staring unflinchingly into mine. CP: From where did you graduate? Me: Here, coach. From Akron. You know that. CP: Ever attend Ohio State? Me: Never. CP: That’s right. Why do you have that on your head? Me: Just mowing the lawn in it. CP: Are you all in with what we are doing here? Are you one of us? Me: Uh, of course I am. CP: Younger fans, students, watch you older folks. I do not want you to wear anything Buckeyes again. They are our rivals. Me: OK, coach. (Stunned, I removed my filthy cap.) CP: Give me that. I sheepishly gave him the hat. Without a word, he took it, pivoted, and stalked off to join the team. He never smiled. He did not turn around to see what I was doing. He just left. I looked around for witnesses; there were none. I have not worn anything Ohio State since that day. I have been systematically trading in all that Buckeye gear for Zips stuff every time we host them.

CVCA Royals somehow managed to draw 1-1 at Copley. I believe that is the only blemish on Indians' record. -
Considering the afore mentioned group, was there any conversation about UA bidding for Browns? I recognize that we already have (at least) one thread for that.

OSU 1-3 UA Another ugly Ohio Derby. I will take all the points. On the road. Onward and upward!

UA 3-0 Tulsa Zips thoroughly dominate Golden Hurricane from stem to stern. Team is much better than they were a month ago. http://www.gozips.com/sports/msoc/2014-15/releases/20140920amrpvq Embick has evidently settled upon a starting lineup, though his bench goes deeper than did Porter's. Several subs routinely see action. The freshmen are blossoming as they gain confidence. In particular, Sam 7Gainford played the best I have seen him. He was Tulsa's nightmare on the left wing all night. I had the pleasure of chatting with (I think) his grandparents; his presumed grandmother was wearing a Liverpool FC scarf.

Spin, you are slightly missing the point. To claim a world's championship, one must beat the world. Nothing can be assumed. Upsets happen; that is why the games must be played. On paper, the 1980 US Olympic Hockey Team had no chance to beat the USSR. But they did. I am taking the San Antonio Spurs in every bet against Maccabi Tel Aviv. But to assume the Tel Aviv... whatever they are.... have no chance whatsoever is inaacurate. To that point, I am excited at the maturation of the FIBA World Cup. It is arrogant and provincial to claim the world without first conquering the world.

Thanks for bringing us back to Futbol.

For collegiate soccer, NFL Training Camp is not in the off-season; it is directly prior to soccer pre-season. In fact, there would likely be a slight overlap. This year, first pre-season match vs. Maryland was August 18th. Recovery time to re-sod and/or repair field is inadequate. Football and Futbol operate under different standards for quality of field. Pristine in one does not equal pristine in the other. Much like golf, soccer is concerned about the roll of the pitch as much as the running surface. Evenness/Unevenness of the roll matters to soccer whereas not so much to football. 16 months ago, USMNT entertained Belgium MNT in Cleveland Browns Stadium in May, 2013. A tune-up for WC, this international friendly was definitely during the NFL off-season. Afterward, Belgian internationals purportedly complained that the supposedly pristine surface was lumpy and uneven. Different standards! (Browns Stadium always looks nice to me each time I visit.) FE/CC is one of the best fields in the NCAA and is a fine recruitment tool for both soccer programs. If I, a long time season ticket holder, cannot even walk on it, then the NFL should not be permitted to practice on it.

DeAndre Yedlin's Story

Well, his poor touch led to the counter attack, so he had better be fast. Amazing recovery speed! Great hustle! -
Exposure is not a tangible benefit unto itself. It is not easily measured. Those working in advertising will readily concede that point. Yes, there is a burden of proof for someone to bear. Prove that Browns training camp will benefit the University of Akron. Until you can provide concrete evidence that Browns’ training camp will quantifiably benefit UA, your assumptions to that end will continue to be rejected. It is perfectly reasonable, bearing witness to the physical laws of the universe, to assume that large bodies laboring strenuously will dramatically, perhaps irrevocably, impact a grass surface. To argue otherwise is plain silly.

Bring the Browns. Fine. Leave FE/CC alone! We like collecting rent from the Browns. We do not like sacrificing our soccer pitch to do it. Build a practice field for the Browns. Or don't. But leave FE/CC unmolested. If there is a "full impact" or "big picture," I want to see it prior to any agreement. Show me the cost/benefit analysis. Sorry, but the sad track record of UA Administrations have made me distrustful of them and their true motives, throughout the decades. Professional administrators will move on to brighter stops in their careers within the next few years, but the decisions they make will remain with the folks in the UA community for much longer. They do not care about us; we would be foolish to imagine that they do.

I do remember. Andrew is neither quick of foot nor shifty, but he is surprisingly fast in the straight away. Good endurance. I see him practicing his left long ball all the time in warm-ups. He understands what is required from the position and is willing to do it. There is no tougher player in NCAA than 2Souders. Tenacious. Very dependable. Excellent tackler of the ball. Technical without flash. Love Andrew Souders! He may be our answer at LB for this season and the next.
