I too was excited to see the new guys. The "B" team trickled in during the second half.
Notable were the players that never left the match: Pina, Souto, Najem. (Somebody correct me on this point if necessary.) Derschang moved up to Forward when Caso came on at LB, and played nearly full 90.
I predict the first three players off the bench (in order) will be Matt Foldesy, Clint Caso, and Ismail Seremba.
The substitute player that really caught my eye was Louis Cross. He was very confident and economical at CB. He has excellent size and speed. We have no need for a another CB in the first 11, and that is not a position that subs out much. But Cross can step in as needed. So, while Louis Cross is unlikely to supplant Gallego or even Souders, he probably already has the edge on Brad Ruhaak.
While discussing Copley products, it pains me to write that Riley Grant did not show well. He is obviously big and fast, but his touch was leaden. Worse yet, he appeared directionless, prematurely aborting runs, making errant passes. He had no linkage and flow to his game. I hope to see him more comfortable and productive as the season unfolds.
