  1. Does anyone else wonder how Josh Williams did not play for Zips?
  2. The concept of Defenders getting forward is as old as the sport. A student of infantry tactics might say the concept is much older than that. It is fundamental football; numerically overload the opposition during transition. All teams teach that principle, but some sides fanatically emphasize it. CP Akron is the latter.
  3. And I think each of these four played at least some at CB for Akron.
  4. Anyone remember the MISL, Major Indoor Soccer League? The flagship franchise was the Cleveland Force, who could not win a championship because of the San Diego Sockers. Brian Quinn was an integral member of those great Sockers teams. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Quinn_(soccer)[/url
  5. I think Chad Barson was referring to all the practices, drilling, and film sessions where defenders were repeatedly encouraged to get forward. That is an Akron philosophy. But you are right. At Akron, there are only three positions NOT expected to get forward; CB, CB, GK. (This did not sink in with Zarek Valentin.)
  6. 1-1 draw Dynamo goal created by Sarkodie. Crew equaliser similarly created by Barson. Chad looked very good at RB, generating both support and attack from the flank. Do not be surprised if he retains that starting spot for quite some time.
  7. Already love Victor Souto and he has yet to play (really) for us. Maybe getting over Wil Trapp actually can happen. Or maybe its just the medication and therapy.
  8. I never said it was not fun! Even with that deplorable performance, I would still go again. I just hate spending all that money for a rotten egg.
  9. That was horrible! I want my money back!
  10. We know Gravatt. We know a little about Caso, Gallego's buddy. Cross is an intriguing unknown. http://www.gozips.com/sports/msoc/2013-14/...ross_louis_r5bg
  11. I am so glad Quinn chose to stay for his senior year. Personally, I think he could have gone pro instead. But college ball is evidently helping him develop. Very underrated player on the national stage.
  12. I actually like it a bit. But the blue should be darker.
  13. I suppose you are mostly right, but, at some point, it would be nice for a journalist to give a first-hand account.
  14. I may be a geek, but don't ever accuse me of "Peculiar Sense of Fashion."
  15. Only one type of male (or female) would voluntarily read Don Ake's inane commentary. Say no more, indeed. So, soccer scarf wearing fans are homosexual? Really?
  16. I doubt TV will carry this.
  17. It is curious how TDS has both Cross and Seremba rated as three star recruits. Dollars to donuts no one at TDS has ever seen either of them play.
  18. You mean: If Jared Embick gets another contributor or two from this group of ten? Yes, he will have done well. Louis Cross is the least known (to me) of the listed recruits.

  20. I cannot access the offical website from work. Please post the recruiting link so that I can copy it to BS forum. Better yet, post link to BS forum yourself. Edit: Thanks. 2013 Akron Men's Soccer Signees Clint Caso, MF, 6-0, 165, Kinnelon, N.J. (St. Benedict Prep/N.Y. Well, excepting the head coach.

  22. Very late to the party indeed! http://www.uefa.com/uefachampionsleague/index.html Group stage had 28 teams.
  23. It was a very competitive match at a great facility against a quality opponent. The weather was gorgeous! Each team missed multiple chances. I am quite proud of how the undermanned Zips conducted their business against a superior side. A special shout-out goes to Bryan Gallego who toughed through most of the first half in obvious discomfort to his hamstring. I am not so sure his choice to play was wise, but his grit is why he is the captain of this team. Zips were Barson's team the last two years. This is now Gallego's team. Maybe 2013 will not be so bad after all. I am also proud of the few dozen Zips supporters who made the trek to College Park. We made our presence known in (mostly) classy ways. I was proud to be among the Akron faithful there.
  24. The Red team gained the lead minutes later when Morris edged out DeAndre Yedlin in a foot race after Omar Salgado hit a through ball down the left side. With Yedlin on the ground after tripping up in Morris’ feet, the Sounders attacker picked up his head and spotted Alfred Koroma wide open on the far post. Koroma made easy work of the finish, which gave the Red squad the lead at the break. Wow. I did not think that was humanly possible. There must be "mercury" in the Seattle water.
