  1. I don't know what sort of cleats the players were wearing. In wet weather,on grass, studs are the thing you want.
  2. I don't know how "good" they ought to be. Halfway through a huge rebuilding job and starting 3 freshmen they have only a single loss and are ranked number 5 on latest NSCAA poll. That to me,at this point,is outstanding. I think they are good...maybe can develop to be the best this year. I am very impressed that we are doing this wilth freshmen. My point is I think we are not in the to 5 right now. We need to play together more and learn the system. Way to many bad passes and to much passivity. Again...I am NOT an expert. Why the pass all the way back to our goalie from deep in their zone?? I just don't understand the strategy. Actually right now we have moved ahead of Creighton who lost today. We currently should be at #4. Keep winning and due to the fact that Maryland and North carolina still play each other we control our own destiny and should be a top 4 seed if we can win out. Our schedule makes that extremely likely.
  3. Creighton upset 1-0 by Missouri State
  4. I don't know how "good" they ought to be. Halfway through a huge rebuilding job and starting 3 freshmen they have only a single loss and are ranked number 5 on latest NSCAA poll. That to me,at this point,is outstanding.
  5. I like how schmidt has been playing Meves with some big stops but I am puzzled as to why his goal kicks seem erratic (kicking directly out of play)
  6. and that was not an "expert" opinion.I think they need to play from side to side more rather than seemingly playing mostly straight ahead and trying to "sneak" passes through
  7. I think they need more production from the midfield
  8. What was with the streaming....get it fixed before the weekend. I would have been going nuts were it not for WARF. Another win and another clean sheet. May have not been pretty but I'll take the shutout any day.
  9. New Mexico is ranked behind us because their SOS is very poor. Based on watching only the games they played against us no doubt in my mind that UCSB is a much better side. That being said I also saw more than half of the UCSB Cal Irvine game and UCSB looked terrible in that one. Guy on Big Soccer.com has figured out latest RPi and he has us with #12 ranked toughest schedule and New Mexico with SOS of #129.
  10. Latest NSCAA poll has us at number 5. #2 Maryland and #3 UNC still have to play each other. Once again we are in a good position for a potential top 4 seed if we can win out which on paper looks very doable.
  11. Totally agree but for a team that has added so many new faces I am amazed at where they are half way through the season.
  12. The rest of the MAC occupies the following RPI spots: 34,69,100 104,107,and 166
  13. Even tho New Mexico has no losses yet they are ranked several spots below us because their SOS is in the 120s.
  14. Guy at UCSB who posts on Big Soccer.com has new RPI list up and we are at #6. Interesting is that sitting at number 5 is St Johns who has 3 losses but he calculates their SOS as the toughest in the nation. We are #12 for SOS. Maryland still plays UNC at Chapel Hill and they also play a surging Duke team. If we can win out I think we will end up as a top 4 seed.
  15. i believe UNC and Maryland still need to play eachother. New Mexico will probably lose on the road at Bakersfield. We just need to win out though.
  16. Nice win to get back on track.
  17. Not to worry
  18. Game ends in a tie. Another good result for Zips altho U Conn loss certainly would have been better. New Mexico won yesterday so they are now 8-0-2.
  19. Too bad Notre Dame hit the post in regulation
  20. Virginia takes down Maryland 2-1. Now if The Fighting Irish can pull off the upset of UConn things will look much better after we beat NIU.
  21. I will be scoreboard watching this weekend hoping that Notre Dame and Virginia can take care of business
  22. In response to the question of why Holmes was taken out he said it was because he wasn't playing well. Someone thought it might be due to injury. That was all he said...no in depth analysis or anything like that. From my perspective he didn't seem able to control possession very well .
  23. As far as I know Tank is right on the money of his assessment as to why Holmes sat in the second half.
  24. With only half the season gone how can you already be talking about losing home field advantage? It's not as if how Akron does from now on is the only determining factor. Everyone else also has to play. As a new comer to all this I am surprised at how upset some people are about a single loss. Like most teams we play much better at home and 6 of last nine are at Zips. Tank makes some good points about the travel stuff. This sort of thing could very well happen in the playoffs. Much better to figure it all out in what really is a game that doesn't matter then at playoff time. As I said in a previous post I thought the trasvel certainly could have affected how they played but I did not consider that this could have served as an "experiment" and learning experience for things to come. Porter is probably smarter than alot of us are giving him credit for vis a vis the trip to Santa Barbara. Bragging rights for students is not what these games are ultimately about for this program.
  25. I have to agree with you. It's tough enough to play 3 games in eight days but factor in the travel, time changes, and stress and you have a set up for potential poor performance. Hopefully they get refocused and ready for Saturday and the friendly confines of First Energy-Cub Cadet.
