Andy isn't 2nd round talent.Just because the browns are right up the street doesn't mean they have to take every zip available.Andy should go 3rd round, but don't be surprised if he goes 4th.

Here are the stats from the game today....

The OL has a long way to go. I thought that the postgame comments by Moorhead were telling in that he admittted that the QB would be a running threat this year. No doubt this threesome is all mobile but the fact that they have no OL will be another reason why they willl be on the move. -
This would be a great game. Would also be smart to tap in to some games in places like New York, Philly and Chicago against other mid majors. This would help get our name out there and each could be paired with another game in the same city against one of the bigger schools. You get two games off of one trip, which saves dollars and at worst you come out 1-1, perhaps 2-0.

SUN wins hands down. Also was a fan of FRANK'S PLACE, which shows my age. -
Piss poor scheduling. Would no be surprised to see three straight losses this week. Akron never plays well at Buffalo and Can't St will be sky high next weekend. Given our road history this is not setting up well, especially after last night's debacle with all of the starters playing so long.

I would take Getsy any day over Palko.

Make Jim Pry the head coach? Yeah, that would have been the smart thing to do.

This takes the cake. Doug Martin blaming losses over the last two years on "leaks".The only leaks around that program is at the top. Funny reading. There's a rat somewhere around Can't State's football program, and rather than mimic Sherlock Holmes, coach Doug Martin has opted to put a restraint on information.Martin said Friday afternoon that a football coach at another college told him during the offseason that someone outside of the program has leaked information -- game plans, injury reports, etc. -- to certain Mid-American Conference opponents for the past two seasons.Call it protecting his team or paranoia, but Martin said he no longer will disclose team injuries. He already has restricted availability this season for the media. Evasiveness, even lying about injuries, is ingrained in the multibillion-dollar world of American sports. Martin's new philosophy takes a path usually reserved for pro sports.``We're not going to comment on any injuries, period,'' said Martin, who opened his third season as head coach at Can't State with Thursday night's 44-0 loss to Minnesota.``I'm not doing that anymore,'' he said. ``Too many things have been leaked out.''When asked who the ``people'' were, and if he knew who they were, Martin only said, ``I've learned my lesson.''Martin's move comes as a surprise in a media market where breaking news at Can't State -- who will start on Saturdays or who is injured -- ranks far behind its sports counterparts: the Browns, Cavaliers, Indians, Ohio State football and, in many cases, high school football. An NCAA spokesman did not return a phone call seeking comment.Laing Kennedy, Can't State's athletic director, supported Martin's decision to restrict practice availability, adding that sometimes, ``the soccer team has closed practices.''Regarding Martin's nondisclosure of injuries, Kennedy said: ``Not hearing it, it would not be fair for me to comment on it.''Martin's change in philosophy started in Feburary, as spring practice was closed to the media. It had little effect because few reporters showed up.Fall drills, though, are different. Practices originally were off-limits to the four newspapers that cover the athletic program -- the Beacon Journal, Cleveland Plain Dealer, Can't Record-Courier and Daily Can't Stater.Beat reporters complained through Sports Information Director Jeff Schaefer, arguing that not viewing preseason practices made it much harder to present an educated analysis about the flushes.Besides, no photographer wanted to play paparazzi for a team that went 1-10 last season.Martin relented on practice. He now allows reporters to watch the first 20 minutes, but he won't relent regarding injuries. He never announced publicly a starting quarterback for Thursday night's season opener at Dix Stadium, even though junior Michael Machen, last year's starter, was unavailable because of a rumored shoulder injury. Machen was in uniform but watched from the sideline. Then, during the news conference Friday, Martin said that Machen's injury was ``a day-to-day issue.''When asked what type of shoulder injury Machen was suffering, Martin didn't budge.Machen isn't expected back anytime soon because Julian Edelman, Thursday night's starter, is listed as the starting quarterback as of Friday morning's two-deep depth chart for the game against Army (Sept. 9 in West Point, N.Y.) and redshirt freshman Anthony Magazu is listed as the No. 2 quarterback.Martin did say that redshirt freshman Anthony Pastore is the No. 3 quarterback, and sophomore Jon Brown will be redshirted.Wonder if he's injured?--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Gary Estwick can be reached at 330-996-3826 or gestwick@thebeaconjournal.com

Basketball Golf Outing Date - Insane
Charles_in_Charge replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Football
Actually the line was LIGHTEN UP FRANCIS.This event was on the same day as a home football game last year. It's mostly a hoops letterman event, not an attempt to go crazy for fundraising. Golf Tournaments don't make money anyway, they are there for good will. -
If the money is flowing in so well and the fundraising group is setting new records why is this project not near being complete as was written in the Saturday paper? I would also like to know why the football stadium project is not public. From everything I heard a late last fall at the Motor City Bowl the fundraising had reached 17M and an announcement was pending. Now we are 8+ months since the bowl game and nothing is public. What is the real story?

Join me in writing Mack Rhoades and letting him know that this plan is misguided.Mack Rhoades Dir, Athletics 330-972-7080 mack1@uakron.edu He seems to be a reasonable man and someone who will listen to his fan base. This Kreger person could take a lesson from his predecessors and listen to them instead of always talking to them. I cannot imagine that Greg Burke or George Van Horn would have ever pulled something like this. For more information about special gifts to establish named scholarships, endowments, gifts-in-kind, or special projects, please contact Pat Kreger, Associate Director of Athletics, Development, at (330) 972-8590 or pkreger@uakron.edu.

And your point is? This is a sad thread. The parking charge is sadly misguided and the people who put it in play should be held responsible for the carnage that will result. Tearing down others, who led efforts to sell out bowl trips and bring in somme pretty big crowds over the past five years only make you look pretty little.

I have not posted on this board for almost two years. I come here often and read but this thread has me motivated to type out my feelings. I bought my season tickets last December as part of my Motor City Bowl package. If you are stating that putting 2006 season tickets on sale as part of the Motor City Bowl sales campaign was a "mistake" then you are about to flunk Sales 101. I am a bit ticked that I now have to pay more for my same parking space, less for my tickets, all while the "new" regime is touting a family package with a $5 per game ticket. When our new stadium goes up the ticket price is going to shoot through the roof and if you think the bitching is loud from us now just wait until the season ticket price goes up 200% in one year. Why you would slash prices for tickets and jack up parking in the year after a title winning season is beyond me. But what do I know, I just manage a multi-million dollar sales force for a Fortune 100 company.BTW, I still received my blanket and there is no way that it cost $20. The season ticket package I had signed up for included the blanket and a ticket to the Can't State game which I thought was a funny slap against Can't State.

Doubt that will happen because Akron announced a month ago that they had renewed with FOX Sports and a Cleveland station for the next few years. The Zips are going to be on WNPQ-FM this fall but that does not reach into Akron much.

Heads keep rolling on Carroll Street as the softball staff is the latest to go. Guess if you lose, you cruise at the U thesedays. Nice change from the times when coaches could count on jobs and rack up losing seasons in bunches. Another thumbs up for Proenza and Thomas. Softball should be a automatic winner at Ajron U with all of the focus on the sport in North Ohio. Wish Joey Aryetta could come back and be the coach - her teams won big.
-
I agree. This staff looks like one for a D-II school more than a Div. I program in a top notch conference. The most striking thing to me is that these are all Ohio based coaches and all but Dambrot have ONLY coaches in Ohio. No coach of the group has extensive recruiting ties anywhere else. Not a very good start.

Where do you get the money to pay for a new stadium?
