  1. The thing that really impressed me in that game was how close he ran behind his lead blocker and the explosive move past at the opportune moment. I believe he will be successful. And…Alexander will be effective too….but with another running style. The running game will be greatly improved IMO
  2. +1 I agree 100% The easiest way to improve RPI is to reduce the # of weak opponents with very low RPI. That is much more likely to succeed than adding top 25-50 teams that are likely to be away games and unwinnable.
  3. Seems pretty cut-and-dry? Ford should cough up the cash. I don't see it being a deterrent to hiring future coaches. K.e.n.t. is a nice mid-major gig, and any up-and-comer-ladder-climber would take it, regardless of the law suit outcome. They may not sign a stupid contract like Ford, but they'll sign one regardless. +1
  4. Miami built a new hockey arena. The old one was functional but needed to be replaced at some point. The fact that Miami is one of the nation’s premier hockey programs came in to play when deciding if and when a new arena would be built. The decision to build an arena is more based on the ultimate direction a program wants to go. But sometimes opportunities present themselves and upgrades or new projects are expedited. I think this occurs because administrations know that the timing is right for fund raising. As Zach noted....the soccer field had limitations. But the reason why the upgrades where completed last summer was because of the success of the soccer program. So...what I am trying to say is that although current success is not the primary determinate, it plays a huge part in the decision when to act on plans that may already be in place.
  5. Capacity issues. Also, not having the field flood so badly that we're forced to move a NCAA tournament home game to Illinois. Those issues have been around for a while. For some reason I seem to remember the expedited upgrades were made due to the success of the soccer program and to keep coach Porter from leaving. Zach....now that many of the soccer players have left, will you be advocating getting rid of the soccer coach too??
  6. What was the determining factor in making the upgrades for the soccer team??
  7. The Cincinnati Bengals may look at Charlie Frye as a realistic possibility if they decide to sign a veteran quarterback during free agency. They don't call them the Bungles for nothing.... For all those who complain of the lack of support for Zips athletics...and I think you are one GP1...this post is very revealing. I am a Blue Dog Democrat who loved JFK. His famous quote was "ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country." Why do I feel that the prevailing thought is now "ask not what you can do for your country - ask what your country can do for you." And that applies to almost everything. Government, Company, University and much more. We want the other guy to pay and be held accountable. How can you love America but hate Americans?? How can you love Zips athletics but disrespect its athletes/graduates?? Go Charlie...best of luck. Go Zips!!!
  8. CK never is negligent in offering an informed, thought-provoking opinion. You know better. Click here for the definitive opinion on Diggs. Should your left mouse button be inoperative, I will offer the following highlight: You're welcome. DaveinGreen... You are wrong. CK often makes BOLD predictions. He often gloats a bit afterwards though!! And the prophesy is fulfilled. Mark it down. Dambrot gets his first CoTY. Miss Cleo ain't got nuthin' on me.
  9. I was in school when Joe played. My roommate and I would sit at games and make bets when he shot free throws. The bet was not whether he would miss...but would his shot touch the rim. Almost always it was nothing but net. We would sit in the first rows after getting to the game late (class I think The BB team had even less support then...but far fewer people thought we should be competing for the national title just because of we were who we are and that we were from Akron. The attitude of many on this board is very annoying at times....they want it here and NOW (like most of the USA now unfortunately). But then I take a deep breath and realize that it also means that many more people actually care. No one cared back then. Great article. I hope Dambrot puts Joe on his coaching team if he fits a future opening.
  10. Really wouldn't change much from what I can tell. East - Akron, Buffalo, Can't, Miami, Ohio, Temple, UMass West - Ball State, BGSU, CMU, EMU, NIU, Toledo, WMU In a North South allignment it would likely be: North - NIU, WMU, CMU, EMU, Toledo, BGSU, Buffalo South - Akron, Can't, Miami, Ball State, Ohio, Temple, UMass So We would have Ball State and they would get Buffalo, Akron would then have its three rivals (Can't, Miami, and Ohio). If you look at the map, there isn't any other way to do a North South division. My understanding is that FB division reconfiguration would be done such that Temple and UMass are NOT in the same division. Having them in the same division would double the excess travel burden for the other teams in the division. Look for Temple & UMass to be in opposite divisions when it's all played out. Go Zips! I think you are correct. UMass and Temple must be in separate divisions for one other obvious reason. If they are the same divisions....then basketball and other sports would be split 7 in west and 5 in the east...unless you would reshuffle the alignment based on sport...highly unlikely. So...look for Temple to be in the south and UMass in the north.
  11. Chisolm at least was making medicore talent look bad. Thats what good players are supposed to do. There may be hope there. The receivers are all midgets but may be at least faster. Can't tell anything about Nicely except that he appeared to be farther along than the other two. That figures. The secondary still looked lost. The D-line wasn't making too many stops at the line thats is very troubling. When the 3-4th game of the regular season rolls around we will know more. Lee, Why do you think the WRs are midgets?? I compared the Zips roster with OSU and found this: Zips 5'11" OSU 6'0". The first 3 for OSU are 6'0" while the Zips will be 6'1", 6'3" and an incoming JUCO 6'4" (not in average of 5'11"). The starters will be above average I think but the back-ups will be small. Unless something happens, all three will be with the Zips for 2 more years. I think the prospects are good. I have read here many criticisms about the receivers from last year dropping balls (reason for Ncely's lack of success). I only saw one catchable ball dropped Saturday...and it would have been a difficult ball to catch (high from Nicely). I think the receivers will be a pleasant surprise this year. But we can't afford any injuries, academic or other issues. Also...if Nicely can't get the ball effectively to the receivers, I believe we now have others who are capable of stepping in. I am not one who believes you can coach accuracy or arm strength. You can improve accuracy to some degree with improved technique. I also believe some people are born to lead and make others around them better. I have not yet seen that from Nicely. There is some indication that Moore may have those qualities. Either way...having Moore on the team makes us better. Go Zips!!!
