So the "pro Nicely" crowd think Moore is short in stature and the "pro Moore" crowd think Nicely is short on talent and leadeship. Interesting. This should be fun. Not as fun as tOSU debate but fun all the same
-
Your point is well taken. But I belive those who think he leads by example are totally correct. And I am sure he is of high charachter. But we need a different type of leader...one that demands attention and your best effort. Brady Quin led by example too. Hard working and good guy as well.

EMU and Miami rebranded because the American Indians they used in thier name requested they stop. Stanford and many other schools did the same. It was a "political correctness" issue and not a real rebranding.

Back in the 80s the coach at Iowa State implemented an interesting policy. All team members started out with one color helmet (can't remember if it was red or yellow). Then if a player demonstrated that he was worthy, that player's helmet color got switched to the other color. When the Cyclones came to town to play at Nebraska about half the team had one color helmet and the other half had the other. Looked "really cool" and must have been wonderful for morale. I'm surprised icoach hasn't thought of this yet. LOL sounds pretty silly. In the Massillon scenario...all players received the logo in the 3rd week. It was a team thing. They all wore the same uniform (with exception of #)

One question... Let's say you are 100% correct and he THREW some awesome passes.. 1. why do you think that the WRs were able to run good routes on this day only 2. why were they able to hold on to the ball on this day?? Seems like the cold would make it even more difficult I don't buy the argument that it was the receivers. I did not buy the argument when the Browns used it as an excuse for their QB troubles. Payton Manning won with 2 first time players...one from Mount Union and the other a undrafted free agent (as I recall). Anderson and Quinn were not accurate passers and could not deliver the ball on time. I believe the same is true with Nicely.

I know what you want, change the z and p to t's. Pure Genius. Easy to market. Is that a ingenious way to say "We suck"??? I have higher hopes for this year Although....the contour of the helmet could give it a 3d effect.

Boise has given us a new look. I don't know how you remember all of those things. Aren’t you the guy criticizing Pluto for not having any new ideas?? I am sure you are going to walk the talk ...right???

A few years ago I went to a Massillon game and the new coach started the season with plain white helmets. The idea was the team had to earn the Massillon logo. I thought it was a unique way of building team spirit and getting seniors and other team leaders to step up. So...IMO...changing uniforms now would be like putting lipstick on a pig. I am not opposed to getting new uniforms, but just not now. And I agree with B&G that the helmets remain primarily gold. No yellow. But let's win first and get the program going in the right direction. If we win 5-7 games...talk to me then.

I'm not in favor of things like this because college footballl practices are extremely boring and you don't want to show a boring product to fans. Not sure how many people would shold up at 8 AM for a college football practice. If they did hold it, the ONLY place to have it would be The Bid Dialer. There is really nothing to see the first few days. I like the concept of getting individual communities involved but I don't like holding practices on a strange field. tell me if I am wrong GP1 (as an ex-player)....but the risk of injury is much greater on a strange field...especially going from high quality astro turf to unknown quality local HS turf. For me...the pay back does not seem that great and the risk could be high. When I played for Jackson HS, we went as a team to see a Ken.t State game. Other schools were there too. For a while, I followed the Flashes closely because of that event. Not sure if it would be allowed today...but I would be all in for those kind of local tie ins.

Keeping Threads On Topic

I agree 100% -
I lived the last 10 years in the Bay Area and Bali. Shakes are common. The Hayward fault runs thru the backyard of the building we rent in California. You can actually see the fault line. Freaked me out the first time things started to shake. You kinda get used to it. Never felt one in Ohio though...did not feel yesterday's. How big was the shake here??

As things look right now, tickets to both games should be easy to get. Chapel Hill is the easy choice since you will be right there. The statium is in the middle of campus with little parking. The best college football setting I have ever seen. Be prepared to walk a lot. UNC fans are a bunch of babies and be prepared to want to punch some of them in the face while you are there, but hold back from doing so. Franklin Street uptown is a cool scene. Lots of hot girls walking around. Wake is a much different atmosphere. Stadium is not on campus but the non parking pass parking is real good across the street at the basketball arena. There are some bars across the street from the BB arena that are good enough if you don't want to tailgate. The BB lot isn't the best place to tailgate. The stadium is about the size if Info so all seats are real good. Games not sold out so you can buy a ticket. Sit on the Wake side on the end near the new scoreboard as the sun is brutal on the visitor's side. Wake fans are Ivy League type people as Wake is a great school. Old money people who never get too excited or too down. They clap politely. Since I have no school loyalty and just want to watch college football, Wake is the choice for me. It is also an hour closer to my house than Chapel Hill. Lots of hot 60 year old women walking around. It all depends on what you want to do. GP1, please define what a hot sixty year old woman looks like. Post pixs if you can. Being sixty-eight myself, I find that women in their forties are the ones I lust for. You are just an old troll pervert. Jane Fonda still looks good. Linda Carter sill looks good, Jacklyn Smith is still outrageously gorgeous I think all if them are aat least 60. Not sure though. I guess what I'm saying is if you are located in Hollywood and have a lot of money and freinds that know people , you may have a very miniscule chance of finding a hot 60 year old Suzanne Somers perhaps? I prefer two 30 year olds. I'm not wired for 230. Can you do 120?? This is the US ya know. 230 works just fine in Bali though

Yes...that is my only concern. I hope it was because of performance and not on some percieved "higher ceiling". Winners find a way to win. Losers find a way to lose. My gut tells me Moore is a winner.

I am more than OK with this. I went to the spring practice and the open practice last week just to watch the QB competition. I came early and stayed late just to watch the interaction of the 2 guys with their teammates and fans. The 2 things I came away with is neither were overly accurate but Moore was significantly better. In the stationary passing drills, Moore was head and shoulders better. And he just has a confidence about him that Nicely does not. I believe that leadership and command of the huddle are very important. Some can make their teammates better just by their presence, confidence and belief in themselves and the team. Hopefully he won on the field and the team was behind this. I seldom agree with Zach's opinions but I do agree with him that we will need the back-up QB at some point during the year.
-
Um... Didn't you also call for it? No. I called for a QB to be named sooner rather than later, and for that I'm happy. But I wasn't pulling for one over the other. Nicely will see playing time this year and next, of that I have no doubt. LOL Yes...you left yourself the option to complain whoever was named the starter. Nobody calls you stupid

Akron at Florida International
Doug Snyder replied to mes102's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
I am excited for the lady Zips. I bought a family season ticket last Friday when I was there ordering season tickets for football. I will admit that my daughter likes soccer...she is 3 years old and want to cultivate any desire/interest she has. On a separate note... I am back in Ohio for the first time since 1987 and I am really surprised that we have not seen any mosquitoes yet (staying in N. Canton). Having some girl riding my arse on 77 made me think of that (coming back from the Zoo with my daughter in the car). As she passed...I saw her K.e.n.t. State bumper sticker. Now...if they can effectively spray for mosquitoes...can’t they find an effective spray for the K.e.n.t. virus?? -

What do you mean "from now on?" It's been going on for nearly 6 bleepin' years: ZN.O Sep 23, 2005 You think it's going to go away on its own? Let's have a civil discussion and try to resolve it so we don't have to deal with it for another 6 bleepin' years. For an old guy you have a good memory. I gottta remember to take my Ginko. Damn...where did I put it!!!

Depends on the primary motivator. Our basketball facilities are average at best yet we have the best team in the league. Our soccer facilities are probably worse than our basketball facilities yet we win national championships. I have yet to see a building make a tackle, complete a pass or go for a long run. I beg to differ, GP1. Aside from the JAR, the other facilities available to the basketball players (and that are shared among all sports) are tops in the league. Granted, the lack of a sparkling new or even standard bowl arena is a big limiting factor. However, the recruits come because of KD as a coach and person and that the program wins. Nothing recruits better than a winning program with a solid coach. I will never disagree with that. Our soccer facilities are among the best in the country, not just the league. I will give you the benefit of the doubt, GP1, because you are a football guy (and likely not that interested in soccer), and I assume you have not seen the new stadium yet. Creighton might be the only program with a better overall stadium. (Google it.) I was at UNC last year when we demolished the Tar Heals, and even with their tradition-laden woman's program that has won 10+ national championships and perennial top-5 men's program, our new stadium is nicer. There are many factors, but the facilities can contribute positively (or negatively) to the fan experience. The soccer recruits LOVE that the game atmosphere is like a European game and is unique in college soccer. That dynamic is a unique interplay between the fans and the facilities. Hence, the facilities are a large basis for the culture of a program and its success. Along with what I judge to be a great leader in Coach Pfau, our woman's program continues to improve (we just beat Michigan). I believe a lot of that is due to the gorgeous facility, and the elite players it allows us to attract. How many programs exist that are annually competitive for national championships yet have sub-par facilities? If you can name a small handful, I'd be amazed. In converse, consider: GaTech in baseball, Georgia in tennis, Kentucky, Duke, UNC in basketball, Akron, Creighton, and SMU in soccer, Arkansas in track...etc. I could go on. Bottom line, though not the only or most important factor, facilities are a very important component of establishing and maintaining a winning program. + 1

Thanks....If I can find some, I will bring a few buy to lot 9

I understand your sentiments but I may not have described my position well enough. Although I may think Moore is better....that is based on Nicely's track record and what Moore has done at levels below D1. I have seen very little of both to actually make the call. That is why I hoped he would have made the debate moot by now. Since he has not...there is no real proof that he better and since Nicely has done all that he is asked and has been the started for more than a year...I believe he should be the starter in game 1. I don't think he will quit if he is not the starter...but he may mentally check out if he loses a job to someone who did not earn it on the field. We may need him this year. Lack of depth is my major concern this year. I also think it is important to establish the culture that you win and lose positions on the field and in practice. That said...there is still 2 weeks for one of them to step up. But my guess is that Nicely will be the starter and Moore will take over by game 2-3.

I like to visit old restaurants and bars when I return to the area. I remember Yokono's is in the area..maytry that again for lunch on Monday after I stop at the WPM. Thanks

My bad. When Doug asked for season predictions, I thought he meant for the whole season. I am revising my prediction. After the first half of the first game, I predict we will be 0-0. GP1 actually surprised me. I expected him to make a prediction after the Western Michigan game. The biggest hammers are always the boldest.

Even better!!! I grew up in Jackson and am staying in N. Canton until January. I go by there all the time...will stop soon. Thanks :-)
