  4. http://www.nscaa.com/rankings/5005/NCAADivisionI/men/Poll12zips moved from #10 up to #5 in the final soccer coaches poll. Rutgers finished at #23 the NCAA has Denver at 13 and SMU at 20 in the tourney draw they were 10 and 11 in the final coaches poll
  5. my two Cents- Victor Souto and Adam Najem have been publicly stating since Brazil that this Akron team can win it all. I really admire both great leaders. The coaches and the team leaders have created a family that believes....Go, zips ...and thanks to the Beacon for giving the zips some publicity (not holding my breath on the Johnny Manziel Plain Dealer to realize that there is a great college team in Akron) highlights from the Beacon article: The Zips have had their eye on a top-four seed and another national championship since August. “We created a family, we’re more mature. We worked hard through these 20 games. I think we’re ready to get a national championship,” junior midfielder Victor Souto said. “We knew if we could get a top-four seed we’d play all of our games at home going into the Final Four,” junior midfielder Adam Najem said. “Just the environment around here, having the best fans in the country, one of the best stadiums in the country, it’s really an advantage for us. Anyone who comes here is going to be nervous to play us at our home field.” UA is 8-2-1 at home this season, with its only losses to Wake Forest, seeded No. 1 in the tournament, and UCLA, unseeded. The Zips’ average attendance of 2,115 ranks eighth nationally after finishing 14th (1,825) a year ago. “The two years we went to the Final Four [2009, ‘10] we had all three home games and that helped,” UA coach Jared Embick said. “That’s a position of strength for us, that’s where you want to be in the tournament. If we can get everyone there, get the crowd behind us and make this a difficult place to play, it’s only going to spur us on to hopefully do what we really want do, which is win another national championship.” The Zips feature a balanced attack that has Najem and sophomore midfielder Richie Laryea leading the team with nine goals, redshirt sophomore Sam Gainford with eight, Souto with six and sophomore Stuart Holthusen with five, four in the past three games. The Zips are 8-1-1 in their past 10 matches and Najem cites chemistry and confidence as the reasons. “The team chemistry has really evolved since last year,” Najem said. “The team has an overall belief that we can win this thing. Everyone has the confidence we can do it and that’s showing on the field now.”
  6. http://www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-men/d1/ncaa-mens-soccer-rpithis is the final NCAA rpi it is different from gaucho dan syracuse was #3 in final rpi...gaucho had them at 6 SMU really received no love from the NCAA. Denver was 18th in final rpi...and was seeded #13 SMU was #12 in NCAA Rpi....but was in effect...seeded #20 by the NCAA SMU has to win a match before they face #13 Denver Coastal Carolina at #22...could be tough round of 32 matchup for the tar heels Very happy with the #4 seed for the zips. Tremendous credit for the tough schedule and the players and coaches for for working hard and producing a 15-3-2 record.
  7. my sister in DC sent this article on Darlington Nagbe https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/soccer-insider/wp/2015/11/15/u-s-national-team-newcomer-darlington-nagbe-is-all-smiles-and-so-is-jurgen-klinsmann/
  8. when the opponent commits 19 fouls in the first half, you are not going to have a pretty game but I am very proud of Coach Embick and the Zips pre-season, several coaches predicted that the zips would not win the regular season or the tourney the zips will have to possess much better next Sunday....but survive and advance is the key...5 more wins is the target for the leaders on this team I sure hope that Danilo Radjen can get healthy before next weekend. Danilo has been a very pleasant surprise this year and he and Brad Ruhaak work well in the back. Very happy that Victor was the hero today ....
  9. RPI SCHOOL W L D SOS OSS 1 Wake Forest 15 2 2 2 1 2 Clemson 15 2 2 6 2 3 North Carolina 14 1 3 16 5 4 Georgetown 15 2 2 15 17 5 Akron 15 3 2 17 25 6 Syracuse 13 5 3 4 4 7 Stanford 14 2 2 51 12 8 Notre Dame 11 4 5 3 3 9 Seattle 17 3 1 40 73 10 Creighton 17 3 0 60 39 11 Ohio State 13 6 2 12 33 12 SMU 13 2 4 52 22 13 South Florida 11 5 3 7 38 14 Maryland 10 5 5 11 11 15 Boston College 9 7 1 5 10 16 UC Santa Barbara 13 6 2 20 47 I have the feeling that the NCAA will want a west coast team in the top 4....and they will want the ACC tourney champ... my speculation...wake, clemson, syracuse and stanford are top 4 seeds.... unc 5, georgetown 6 and akron 7.... I hope I am wrong

  12. I had to google it..... It is about 19 miles northeast of Greensboro and it is 5 miles away from Burlington, NC enrollment of 6,500...and Elon has a 1-0 win this year over Wake Forest (when Michael Gamble was healthy) with their RPI being 27, they could a round of 32 opponent for our zips (they were showing as 27 after the loss...now showing as 26) lots of upsets in the conference tourneys Old Dominion is down to 40 now....they will almost certainly miss the tourney...

  15. http://www.gozips.com/sports/msoc/2015-16/releases/20151112qtxsnofirst off, I am very happy for the 8 young men selected and now, I am going to rant.... Victor Souto is one of the best 11 soccer players in the MAC. It is an absolute disgrace that he was not selected for the first team and it is unconscionable for him not to show up even on the 2nd team. Holding midfielder is not the most glamorous position but Akron would not be #4 in the RPI without Victor. I know that the players don't have time to read what the fans have to say but I greatly appreciate and respect the heart, the skill, the passion, the competitiveness that Victor brings to this team. Victor was the player on the Brazil trip that talked the most about bringing a 2nd star back to Akron. I am very happy that Victor is part of the Akron soccer family and I sincerely hope that he gets some All American recognition since the MAC coaches obviously have their own agendas. I know that Victor would much rather have a national championship than Individual glory but this all league team is a joke.
