2014 Weekly Rankings (TDS, NSCAA, ...)
TennZip replied to Zip_ME87's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Wake Forest needs to start winning some ACC matches. Akron's loss to a team with an RPI of 60 does not help Akron. #1 Indiana's one loss is to Penn State so a win in Happy Valley in November would be great for the zips. Seeing Indiana at #1 made me think of their Akron transfers (Matt Foldesey and Phil Fives). Foldesey started against Louisville and Ohio State. Phil Fives did not see action in either of their last 2 games -
Penn State was the last team in the country without a loss that changed today as they went to Maryland Maryland is finally healthy...they beat Penn State 4-0 Maryland has a very good Japanese player...Enzo...and he has missed a lot of games... He played today and made a difference... Ohio State lost 2-1 today to Indiana coming into today's matches...Penn State was 4-0 in the Big ten...and Michigan was 2nd with a 2-1-2 record we all remember Syracuse scoring with 3 seconds left in an exhibition game to edge the zips Syracuse is now 11-1 and just defeated Wake Forest 3-1 on Friday night...Louis Cross started in the game prior to Wake but did not play in the game against Wake there is no dominant team this year. If the zips can keep improving during the year, they can surprise some teams in the ncaa tournament

Oct. 14 - next home game against Michigan
TennZip replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Zips will definitely have to score some goals on Tuesday night. Michigan really had a good week scoring goals. They defeated Rutgers tonight 3-0 and earlier this week...Michigan defeated Notre Dame 3-2. -
Like you, I will be interested to hear which defender moved up front....as Ruhaak, Cregan, Saad, Andrew and Dambrot typically play defense. No Sean Sepe in the match. From the live scoring, Nathan Quirk seemed to be very active.

zips 1-0 at halftime on Adam Najem penalty kick zips lead 9-5 in shots and 4-2 on shots on goal Starting XI at @BGSUmenssoccer: Souders, Abdul-Salaam, Laryea, Gainford, Souto, Najem, Cregan, Ruhaak, Dambrot, Fenlason, Quirk

I have to agree with BufLobo. Bowling Green is 9-2 and they have a win over Michigan. The Bowling Green match is probably the most significant MAC match in many years. -

Notre Dame came back to tie it at 2-2 around the 73 minute mark Michigan did not cave and scored a 3rd goal at 82;45...and won 3-2 in other scores of other interest...Bowling Green scored in OT to win 1-0 at Cleveland State at 84 minute mark, Indiana leads Louisville 3-0 -
Michigan currently has a 2-5-2 record and they are 1-1-2 in the Big Ten. Tonight, Michigan is hosting #6 Notre Dame at halftime....Michigan leads 2-0 Michigan has really had an up and down year. They tied Maryland 1-1 and they tied Northwestern 0-0 they lost 1-0 to Bowling Green and they lost 1-0 in OT to Western Michigan Bowling Green on the road will be challenging....and Michigan looks like they can play with anyone

the win over Ohio State (#13 in RPI) is really helping the Zips. Hopefully, the zips can get another quality road win today. -
On the radio broadcast, Reinaldo said he roomed with Diego for a semester. Reinaldo said they were having dinner together after the match.
-
just lost 3-2 to Ohio State Ohio State has had a really good week with wins over 2 ranked teams (Louisville) Penn State stayed strong with a 1-0 win over Rutgers big week for the zips...with road games at MSU and BG
-
good, solid win.... great for this young team to get a win over a ranked team
-
MAC might be a little bit stronger this year. Western Michigan defeated Michigan 1-0 last night in OT (Michigan had tied Maryland earlier in the year). Bowling Green has a good record and also has a win over Michigan. On the other side of the coin, West Virginia's record dropped to 5-5 last night as they suffered a 6-1 loss to new Mexico.

Zips @ Wake Forest Demon Deacons
TennZip replied to fknbuflobo's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
It is very easy to 2nd guess players on PK's We all remember that Zarek Valentin (a great player) had the first PK stopped by the goalie against Virginia in NCAA final. The Virginia goalie said after the final that he had watched Zarek kick to one side against UNC in the semis and he suspected that Zarek would go to the other side (in the final) and Zarek did. 20/20 hindsight is always great. The Virginia goalie said he had a huge advantage because he had watched Akron against UNC on Friday night. If Zarek had gone to same side and was stopped, us fans would have given Zarek grief for being too predictable. Goalies have to guess....sometimes, they guess right. Victor has proven time and time against that he is super passionate (many times too much) Victor is going to give 110 percent every time on PK's. Let's not write him off based on one good result and one bad result. Scott Caldwell is always going to be viewed at Mr. Clutch based on 2010. Scott and Ampai are probably my two favorite all time zips based on their creativity and thinking but even Scott had a huge missed PK against Creighton in Caleb's last year. As ME87 said very correctly, PK's are not a sure thing -

UAB is ranked 21 this week....so zips have a chance to gain some ground back. Ohio State leads Louisville 1-0 at 62 minute mark James Madison (4-3-2) leads Virginia 1-0 at 87 minute mark...Virginia just tied it with a goal at 88:28 VCU is 3-5-1 and is tied 0-0 at #1 Notre Dame at 66 minute mark no dominant teams this year...If Akron can keep improving, they can still make some noise in the NCAA tourney good to see them make adjustments in 2nd half tonight Penn State is ranked #4. Michigan State is highly ranked...Zips have a lot to gain in those games -

from wake forest twitter Some halftime stats: Wake Forest leads in shots (9-2) and corner kicks (6-0). Ferrell has made two saves. they did say that Akron has been much more aggressive in first 10 minutes of 2nd half -
from buckeye soccer twitter Yellow card issued to Akron bench in 53rd minute ?????

http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/college-soccer-national-rankings/men makes me sick to see Ohio State in top 25 with the zips being unranked... hopefully, Wed. nights match...will change that

Ohio State lost their first match today. Hopefully, there are a lot of zip fans that will go to Columbus. Ohio State def. Northwestern 2-0 a week ago The Ohio State men’s soccer team¬ suffered its first loss of the 2014 season Sunday afternoon, falling 1-0 at No. 10 Penn State at Jeffrey Field in University Park, Pa. The Buckeyes (2-1-3, 1-1-0 B1G) held the Nittany Lions (6-0-1, 2-0-0) scoreless for the majority of the contest before Penn State collected the only goal of the match midway through the second half to earn the conference win.

That is the best half of soccer that I have seen from the Zips since the 2010 year. The young players have shown great improvement. Very happy for Jared Embick and the entire team. Go Zips!

I think that Paul sent something out in July...that he was leaving Akron U. He is handling the marketing for a school in the Cleveland area
