At St. Louis - Saturday September 12
TennZip replied to TennZip's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
The Zips made good use of their bench tonight. On the offensive side, I want to salute FaFa (Farrell Ngongang) and Noa Testa. FaFa hustle and great pass resulted in a fine goal by Noa Testa. Noa Testa was very active and quick and he created a lot of offense for the Zips. However, my unsung hero for the night is freshman Cole Perez. He came in at center back and really stabilized the back line. Great clutch performance by a freshman. Freshman Austin Thum also came in and played some very good minutes in place of Matt Dreas. The coaching staff deserves credit for recognizing that some key veterans were not having effective nights.....and the coaching staff wisely brought in Cole, FaFa, Noa, Braxton , Leo , Austin and others. This win would not have been possible without great contributions from freshmen and sophomores. -

Nice preview on Cornell site https://cornellbigred.com/gameday/mens-soccer-vs-university-of-akron/msoccer/4606/ Cornell leads the all-time series with Akron, 2-0-1, and has never lost to the Zips: a 3-2 overtime win at Akron in 1980, a 3-2 double-overtime win at Akron in 2019, and a 0-0 draw at home in Ithaca last season (Oct. 7, 2025) — the two teams' most recent meeting. Akron (18.67 shots/gm) and Cornell (18.0 shots/gm) rank eighth and 11th, respectively, in NCAA Division I this season — Cornell led the nation in the category a year ago at 20.10 shots per game

Cleveland State had an impressive result tonight. They battled to a 0-0 tie with number 19 ranked Florida Atlantic. In Florida Atlantic's last game, FAU tied 3-3 with last year NCAA finalist NC State. Dayton is trailing UNC Greensboro right now 1-0 in the first half. The UNC-G goal was scored by Caleb Borneo. I am glad to see Caleb doing well.

Outstanding press release from Cornell...about last night's game https://cornellbigred.com/news/2026/9/4/millers-late-strike-lifts-mens-soccer-past-no-21-uc-santa-barbara-2-1.aspx "I thought it was an excellent game. It didn't seem like just our second game of the season - tt was almost played with postseason intensity," said John Smith, the Dr. Daniel P. Wood Head Coach of Men's Soccer "Quite often that happens when you play against a really good opponent. I thought we were fairly dominant in the first half - probbaly could have capitalized on some of the opportunities we created, but we didn't. The second half was a bit more even, although I do think we outweighed them in terms of chances created. We rode our luck when they hit the bar, but two great goals, and overall, really an excellent performance against a very good team."
