  1. Yeah nice accomplishments outside the MAC in a Power 5 Conference where an average record still gets you an at large
  2. Until we have a coach that accomplishes more than KD You wont hear nothing bad about him from me. Yal'l have fun with that
  3. Looks like its Akron vs Buffalo Thursday
  4. Also UMBC's old arena which they still have and now use for Intramural sports is set up just like the JAR
  5. Give me this in Downtown Akron I live 10 minutes from UMBC. Knew an assistant on the staff that upset VA in the NCAA Tourney who is now on that same staff at Utah State. Opened in 2018 i have attended many games including my son attending basketball camps there the past 5 years. Aside from the empty side I love the layout. 4,654 (basketball) 5,500 (concerts) Wild how that arena looks much bigger than the JAR but seats less Also there is an auxiliary gym/practice court in the basement. UMBC is a 13,000-student university
  6. Nice arena but like the JAR I hate the mid level track because it pushes the upper level too far from the court. It's a different world up there.
  7. I believe folks are thinking too small. Look at where the University as a whole is located. Akron is currently a rust belt city with little to nothing to offer in regards to attracting anyone and thats the problem. Which is why it makes sense to build a "city" arena. Hell Lebron remodeling the Tangier Restaurant which will feature a sports bar one could argue is the best thing going on right now for Akron in regards to redevelopment which will attract people to come to the city. It's time to move on from the JAR. Either rebuild from scratch on the same lot or build downtown.
  8. This reminds me of the debate on if we should build at the time one of the largest on campus Rec Centers in the country vs what our enrollment was back then. 17 years later would you say the Rec Center has been a success?
  9. Well.....We are still in a pandemic and at the end of the day the layout of the JAR sucks.
  10. Not including the car rental which is currently ridiculous like Gas prices
  11. Drove by UA on the way to the All Star Game Saturday and I must say it is an utter disgrace how bad the streets are around campus. Exchange St is absolutely nothing but potholes and uneven pavement. Countless untreated side streets like Sherman and Cross which are basically ice skating rings. And then add all the highway construction into the equation. I honestly don't blame anyone who choose not to attend Akron Home Games past and remaining. It is not worth the wear and tear on your car. I feel for folks who have to deal with that daily. They would have to put me in jail if I still lived there because I would be on the UA President and Mayor's a$$ daily. Your Tax Dollars deserve better
  12. When I criticize = I get banned So no comment from me
  13. Its a bitter rivalry folks They swept us this season winning on our floor Let them players be We will get em next time Hopefully in Cleveland in a few weeks.
  14. Im fine with Kent talking that talk. They got the W on our floor and the Season Sweep. Can't be sore losers.
  15. Watching this game I see too much Blue Brick Walls I have no clue whats going on behind the East Rim. The Band section looks half empty behind the West Rim. Many moons ago back in 2002 Hipster Era I remember when the ticket office gave free tickets to students when they actually had bleachers behind the rims which was the dedicated AK-Rowdie section. New Arena Please
  16. I wish this game wasn't a week before NBA all star weekend. Will be up there the following week
  17. Yeh i agree Akron is no longer a destination especially downtown. Was last there for Romeo Travis jersey retirement. After the game he had a private get together at a lounge on Main Street and that was back when literally the whole street was closed off and tore up. I couldn't believe my eyes trying to cross the street in that mess from where I parked. I feel for the businesses down there. At this point I believe it would make more sense to focus more on turning the area into a true College town. It would be a win win for the area as a whole to have a multi purpose arena to help attract events to the region on a regular helping to boost the economy. In reference I look at Uconn who uses a downtown and still uses their old smaller arena on campus. Georgetown Also. The Jar can still be used for games.
  18. I would like to see a new Arena Downtown. With the ongoing overall decline of Akron in regards to the downtown economy and population I would also like to see UA grow and expand more downtown. For example, I lived in Richmond Virginia in the mid to late 90's. At that time the city was on a decline. Since then VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University) which was originally a small commuter school has rapidly expanded and took over downtown Richmond. I believe UA can rebound and do the same.
  19. I was part of the original staff that opened the rec center back in 2004 - 2007. During my time there the auxiliary gym did not get much traffic however it was used for many Table Events. The rubber surface in there was not popular but at times the aux served its purpose when other activities like badminton was set up in the main gym. I see them knocking down the outer wall to either extend or create a private entrance.
  20. 1. YSU would kick Akron's ass TODAY 2. Hoban would kick Akron's ass TODAY And so you sh!t on 1-AA when there are folks in here who believe Akron Football is basically 1-AA
