No one said I was Chauncey's dad...

This was one of the worst game I've seen KD coach. The zips were faster, stronger, and bigger than CCU and KD countered with nothing utilizing that advantage. You live by the three and you die by the three. I also disagree with the statement that the freshmen almost pulled the game out (they didn't). I saw a group of very entitled players giving the green light who was pushed in over their heads. I agree that you are paying KD entirely too much for a humiliating coaching effort. The team shot the ball poorly from the go and instead of KD recognizing it and make changes he just continued with the same game plan. Thats what made him such a horrible coach. A simple counter of putting the two bigs on the block at the same time a pound the ball inside all night long while having the point guards and wings attack the rim. Notice: Chauncey is not just a streaky spot shooter but a multi dimensional offensive scorer why not opening your eyes to see that... This is where not playing the sport and coaching the sport comes back to haunt you. He should stick to baseball in my opinion..

College basketball is not the same as high school where some players excel and some don't. At the D1 level its all about speed and quickness. To be honest I don't see the speed quickness or strength it takes to start. Plus there is 0 time on the floor as a D1 college player. The exhibition games were against a D2 school. I don't care what you've heard the freshmen except for PF may be able to start. There is nothing that has given me the feeling they could start. The truth will be against Oklahoma where they will have to prove they can handle the strength and speed...Basketball is a contact sport even though you don't wear pads. I'll wait and see if they can start after 10 or so games at the D1 college level.

I agree students should be closer to the floor and not the season ticket holders...Students are the sixth man in college basketball in most cases. Not to mention this all adds to the students college experience which leads to lasting memories. My point being that sports are for the students and not for the grown ups who left school years ago. UA can take notes from other big programs 9etc. Duke, Kentucky, Kansas, etc) where they take care of the students and parents of players and you have very loyal support....Now I'm not saying not to include alumni and fans but put the rowdy students around the court and have the stand and jump up in down all game and it will be very scary and effective against visiting teams...

There is no sit out for transfers from D1 to D2.

I mentioned that to him last night and he said it wasn't an issue. I'm glad you saw the same thing...

Will the Zips Run More in 2012-2013?
lumberjack replied to johnnyzip84's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I disagree, I think the dunk celebrations were a non factor defensively. The biggest thing that hurt the zips last season were unexcused turnovers down the stretch where opponents capitalized. I believe if we keep turnovers to a minimum and minimize the shooting slumps they will have a strong chance. Also if the coach find the right chemistry of players that play best together in rotation will take the team to a whole new dimension of play... -
I take it this is humor?

I understand everyone is entitled to his/her own opinion but I choose to remain optimistic. I have watched mostly all practices and I have to say: First, this team is more than a regular mid major team. This team has size and skill much like a major program. This team is very physically strong, fast, full of energy and very deep in every position. What impressed me was the intensity everyone has during practice sessions. This team unlike others can shoot the ball well almost form every position and defense that is very aggressive. Secondly unlike last year I see this team working on the small things that kept them out of the NCAA post season. The team actually is concentrating more on team versus individual. These guys are actually sharing the ball and making the obvious play instead of focusing on the tough impossible selfish play. I also see a change in team chemistry that can't be gauged in practice. This team has spent a lot of time together which has allowed them to get to know each other better instead of operating in clicks as in years past. They actually like each other and almost like a bunch of brothers motivating and supporting each other. While at the same time working everyday to take each others spot. Thirdly making a prediction I will leave that alone. However, I do believe you will see a very impressive and long overdo showing from Chauncey Gilliam who demonstrated some of his talents in the NIT last year. I believe also that you will see some major strength from the wing players that has never been done before. I also believe that the size is going to be a major factor that will give the average MAC and OOC teams trouble. Fourthly, I feel the lost to Ohio last year will motivate this team and make them realize that game was not lost by the hands of the opponent but more like Akron beating themselves with major game changing turnovers down the stretch especially at the point position. I had a chance to analyze this game over and over and believe the team will raised up in maturity to cut down on gut wrenching turnovers and capitalize on the mistakes of their opponents. I will predict that if the team find it's Chemical component and utilize on it's size and athleticism I believe this will thrusts them deep into the NCAA Tournament, thusly making this the best team in Akron's history. Lastly, I'm not sure of the campaign of Think Bigger featuring two players like this will be the factor that will take them to bigger heights...My take is it will take the team and sell the fact that a basketball team is a team not an individual sport. A chemically bonded team win championships and not just good players...If it would be me I would have posted the team or a least the proposed staring five or seniors.

He left UMBC to have the opportunity to demonstrate his skills on a bigger stage...

That's good to hear. He wants that NCAA appearance really bad.

Thanks, Love Q like a son and I would want nothing more than him being around this season to take care unfinished business. I thought that CG and Q complimented each other when on the floor together and this was supposed to be the year to prove it. CG came home spent more time than past 6 years and we had a man to man session redefining his goals and opportunities. He trained exceptionally well in the off season having a more defined body, mind and spirit. Whether Q being there or not CG will be a different player this year I believe which will work in the Zips favor. He got out of his world and connected with the team more and got involved with the new recruits on their visits which helped his psyche. This year is it for him in college play and his plan is to leave nothing unturned on the floor. Can't wait L

I disagree with your post. There are more than just Zeke that are stars on the team. This team in my opinion was much better than Ohio last year who made it to the Sweet 16 taking NC to overtime. The factor working against the Zips was the lack of experience playing together (ideally it was a young team). In every game with every team there are swings in scoring mainly for opponent adjustments on defense. The zips had a lot of scoring power but just lacked confidence. Lastly, the zips went into MAC play not playing well as the momentum swing went in favor of Ohio by one point. There was no doubt in my mind that Akron was the better deeper team with a deeper rotation with more stars. Chemistry is key when playing the game and I don't think that was ever fully achieved last year. To win in tournament play it takes team effort and one star won't get it done...
-
I agree with both you and Dave...One thing to consider; the team is faster running 3 or 4 guards but in the set position the twin towers are and would be a very big threat to other teams.
-
In my opinion although Q will be missed I think the team will be in great shape. I also believe that the team will make it out of MAC play with this new addition and go deep in the post season for what I've seen this year. There are players that have shown only a fraction of their true potential.

, My apologies to this site and administrator

I would like for him to transfer if he graduates this summer to a place where the system already believes in his potential and not defending it like now...
-
I'm a spokes person for him and won't let anyone put him down or talk smack about him. He comes from good stock (athletic, educated, and financially well off). I know the family well...met them and love them.

I'll take that...and when you grow up you will understand...

I never trashed anyone I just said in my opinion Chauncey has been a good closer better than what you guys have seen. So when Chauncey reads this post I can tell you he will be hurt and pissed for he knows why he appear confused because he was forced to play outside of himself. All his life he's been a creator and finisher except for at Akron. And for the record he has never been a selfish player but very humble which he got from a great family (strong but sensitive). Its also inconsiderate for you guys to say such a hurtful thread giving him a C-, in light of coming of a big lost where he had to watch it slip away while being on the bench, and especially when you don't know all the facts and all the sacrifices he made coming there. And to me he sacrificed more than others on his team as some were not required to. The way I see it if one sacrifice for the team then all should sacrifice. So in your argument you said Walsh and Tree is better than Chauncey but that was OK. But when I said Chauncey is better than Walsh and Serb suddenly I'm a cancer. Well if thats the way midwesterners interpret things so be it. This is not slavery and in the northeast its OK to voice your opinion without being attacked for it. In addition I feel Chauncey wasted his time at Akron this year frankly and I'm not happy with his role he played, the coaching staff, and school and thats the bottom line AND you guys didn't deserve to have him. You have your reasons for feeling the way you do as in C- grade and so do I while totally disagreeing with the B- as well. I trained him to be a complete player and he is better than you give him credit for and that alone makes me very angry. Also when you write BS like grading players than you should be on the phone in the middle of the night when Chauncey calls thinking that the fans hate him and they don't understand the politics of the game. Just because he plays for your school doesn't give you the right to say and do whatever you want unless you want a fight on your hands via conversation. This post was stupid, childish. immature as well as selfish and most of all invited all the peckers to respond. You don't know that half of it. For the record UMBC beat Toledo two years in a row from the MAC so quit trashing UMBC. Chauncey still have friends there and he still loves the school. The program has been in a slump lately and mainly because Chauncey left to be a Zip. I simply said go to the press conference post Can't St. and hear from the coaches mouth why Chauncey's role was limited. There was a lot of time money spent to get him at a place where he could be a complete player to be sacrificed just to loose in the end. I'm not crying just saying. Also the more you guys hate me the better I feel. You guys are funny...
