  1. I think a lot of this depends on just how big the Big-11 decides to become. Many analysts seem to think that if at least 2 Big East teams are taken by the Big 10, Big East football is through. In this scenario, the argument goes that the remaining Big East teams will quickly do whatever they can to land in the SEC or ACC. I think this makes a lot of sense IF two or more teams are taken.
  2. Height: 6 ft - 2 inches Weight: 195 lbs Position: SS-Strong Safety And his name is actually Mark. And his last name is actually Murphy.......his dad, also Mark Murphy, played safety for the Packers. Rivals says he has offers from Arizona, K.E.N.T. and Indiana. I actually had a chance to help coach him in basketball at an early age. He is a good kid from a good family.
  3. Your link doesn't seem to exist. Hmmm you're correct. They must have taken it down temporarily because I read the full article earlier. They mention all of the expected (scheme switch, QB named in August, Lemon ordeal, Ianello's recruiting reputation) and sum it up by saying we should expect some "rookie" HC mistakes in this year of transition. If you Google "JD Brookhart" and look at the "News" options only, the Orlando Sentinel story picking the Zips at #91 will be first in the list of three. I'll bet they'll have it back up tomorrow. Here is a new link. New Link Edit: Revision 1 corrects "some" to "sum".
  4. Well this countdown thing couldn't last forever. We're #91!!! We're #91!!! We're #91!!! We're #91!!! Link On another note, The Sporting News predicts in their pre-season magazine that Nicely will be the "next big quarterback" from the MAC and he will eventually have an NFL career. In spite of this, I believe they pick the Zips 6th in the MAC East.
  5. Straight from the pulpit, these Deacons are #92! Link
  6. Razor says he is a likely walk-on. Link
  7. MDZip, I think you have some 'splaining to do!! Limbo, limbo how low can we go???? Link Fear the Turtle?? I think not!!
  8. How does that 67-0 Manhattan shellacking in LO's first season feel NOW, Coach "never saw an opportunity to run it up that I didn't thoroughly enjoy" Snyder?!! Link And I'll quit calling you Virginia, MDZip, just as soon as you quit calling me "Shirley"
  9. I readily admit the pleasure I find in "State's" displeasure is completely childish, crazy and ridiculous. But that doesn't stop me from feeling that way! Go Zips!!!
  10. Yes, Virginia, you're number 95! Link
  11. And number 96 is in the MAC East, but it's NOT Akron! Link
  12. ESPN's Ivan Maisel has written an article on how the steady economic decline of the region has affected the available recruits, particularly in terms of depth, in our area. We've discussed many of these issues in the past, but I thought it was a pretty good summary of the situation nonetheless. Link
  13. I was thinking the same thing. In fact, I was anticipating the Zips at #100 on the money. Then we could have said, "We're #1!!!......................................hundred" Maybe the folks in Orlando still recall the Zips beating the Knights in the last two games played by UA and UCF?
  14. The GSE must be behind this Link
  15. I somewhat agree with ZW in that, when it's all said and done, this issue is probably being overblown. I just got off the phone with the ticket office regarding my particular situation, and what I've been told might be valuable information to others. My wife and I have priority reserved seats and we were in Lot 4 last year (complimentary pass). I was particularly concerned with the wording in the press release that states the following: "For every four (4) priority reserved season tickets purchased, an individual account will receive one (1) parking pass in a Z-Fund priority lot. The parking pass is complimentary with the season ticket purchase." I was informed on the phone that even though I only have TWO season tickets, I would STILL receive a complimentary parking pass. Also, beginning August 1, I would be able to select my lot based on availability. So if things go as I expect (at least some Lot 9 spaces still available on August 1), I will likely be able to get into the lot I've been trying to get into all along. So for me, I'm actually gaining by the new policy, since I had no way of selecting a lot last year. In the off-season survey, I wrote a specific request to be able to select a parking lot. Now I'm not naive enough to think the policy was changed due to my request, but perhaps the administration attempted to accommodate this suggestion while at the same time appeasing the "major" donors. One thing is certain. The press release could have been much more clear on a few issues. If any of you have specific concerns, I'd suggest calling the ticket office at 330-972-6920.
  16. Let's not get crazy here. Baseball is far more interesting to watch (even when you are losing by 15 runs in the middle of the game like today) than soccer. I know it's a matter of personal preference but obviously baseball is due to the fact that baseball is FAR more popular at every level from High School on up. Also, I spoke with a parent of a recruit for a second today and he had just asked me and some others if we thought that Bangston would still be there next year. I told him i would think so (but i wish he wouldn't be) but i got the feeling he wasn't asking that for assurance but more so hoping that he would be gone. I can think of about 100 million folks who watched the UEFA Champion League final today who might disagree with this.
  17. It was definitely Minnesota (Link), not Wisconsin. Link
  18. And here I thought "in Green" meant that Dave was either independently wealthy or that he had just won the Masters
  19. Although I'm not sure I'd agree with it, here is one early prognosticator who would (presumably) make the Zips a favorite over the Orange. Note they haven't rated the Zips yet, but I don't see UA listed in slots 104-120. Link
  20. In response to all the comments regarding attendance, it must be pointed out that UA and K.E.N.T. have been playing a featured game at Canal Park every year for the last few years now (as discussed in the lead story). As far as I know, this is the only game that has a an attendance figure anywhere near 1800 and much of this is because the game is part of a charity fundraiser.
  21. It sort of seems like after a decent start to the season, the wheels basically came off after some disappointing MAC homestands. Were injuries a problem? The pitching really fell off as the season progressed. Maybe the club baseball team needs to lend a hand. BTW, I haven't heard too many reports on club baseball this year. What''s up with that, RFR44?
  22. Steve is transfereing to the Unversity of California PA. He is going to fisnish his two years of basketball, while he gets his masters. Steve then plans to get his degree in Air traffic control from Beaver County Community College. Witch would not be suprise if someday his is not the head of the FAA. We his family are very happy to have Steve playing so close so that we may be to make the games to watch him play. As for Zip nations.org I will miss most of you but some of you I will not, you know how you are. Well take care an thanks for the ride. Steves Uncle Thanks for taking the time to discuss Steve's future plans. Best of luck to Steve during his Vulcan career and throughout his life
  23. I think a key is going to be how much confidence RI places in Nicely. All the talk about establishing the run and using the fullback and tight end etc etc and so forth is making me a little nervous that Patrick will not exactly be "unleashed" by the new staff. If there's one sure-fire way to make a team entertaining it's developing a big play offense.
