  1. What you are leaving out is that Wake is in a strong conference... They play Teams on par with UConn and Boston College (conf game for them) for the better part of their season. So where UB/Akron have eight games in a gutter conference (by your reckoning) and two, or three against good teams Wake Forrest has 5 or 6 games against teams that have a good shot at being ranked. So yes MAC teams can settle into their mediocre conference and get other teams from other mediocre conferences to play them in the hopes of (1) being no better. Or they can try to get two, or three games a year which will boost attendance, get publicity, and give the program something to shoot for. Warde Manuel is not going the Miami route of 5 home games and taking the money, these are home and home arrangements with regionally known and followed teams (hence Army is in the mix in the future). Akron who has about the best stadium in the MAC can go the same route.. You almost had this right. The Info IS the best stadium in the MAC! Besides, I thought Canadians pronounced it "a-boat" Just a little good natured ribbing. I know you don't live near Buffalo anymore As far as the scheduling argument goes, I generally agree that more than one BCS team is a difficult assignment for any MAC school. Two in one season is pushing it and three is simply too many. BUT, the Zips may get lucky this year in that the three BCS teams on the schedule don't appear to be powerhouses.
  2. I was wondering if anyone else happened to catch that. My wife and I were watching it along with our daughter and we all got a big kick out of it It sure beats some of the other pop culture references to Akron over the years.
  3. +1 Bonus points for no stats mentioned, right? +1-sigma!!!
  4. I agree with these guys....thanks for taking the time Chauncy is sounding more and more like a Singletary type of player, at least in terms of physical attributes (with a little more height to boot). Am I the only one who has entertained the thought that RI might be drooling at the prospect of this guy playing TE at the Info some day? I know it's a stretch, and I have no idea if Gilliam has any football background whatsoever. It's just that when I see a large-bodied, skilled hoopster, I immediately think of TE's like Gates, Gonzalez, etc.
  5. Here is a Beacon article on his speaking engagement. Link

  7. Thanks, guys. I can only view the headline at work but that's enough in this case He probably wasn't thrilled with his other options. Now we'll get another 15 minutes of fame from this story
  8. ESPN's Graham Watson gives her early predictions. She doesn't hold out much hope for UA in 2010, but thinks K.E.N.T. is going bowling! Say it won't be so!!! Link
  9. Great idea. Do you think we can get RI on board with this?
  10. I agree. It will be fun to watch him in his senior season. Pre-season accolades and ranking are essentially worthless. If they were a slam-dunk, Brookhart would have won a National Championship. And Bobby Hendry would have toted nothing but a water bucket. While I agree the measure of one's heart isn't captured by the "numbers", wasn't he a senior last year? So I'm wondering if he might be a preferred walk-on, or perhaps RI held back a scholarship for a kid like this. Whether it be Pitt, Tulsa, Cincy, etc. there are many examples of local kids contributing in some way to a football team through shear hard work and determination.
  11. I believe this is the source of the chopper. Apparently, some big-wigs from Bridgestone/Firestone were at the Info yesterday. Link
  12. Our favorite ESPN writer discusses a Newark Star-Ledger article with a new twist on the 6 mega-conference concept. This time a few teams from non-AQ conferences are involved (hint: but not Akron). Link
  13. Perhaps THIS will soothe your grammar-starved cerebellum. It looks like old number 90 is back on the official roster! Go Zips Roster
  14. Well stated, Cap'n!
  15. Thanks for posting this, gozips19! Zach is probably correct, but could you clarify if Coach Mallory specified what positions on D the prep school and JUCO players should be able to contribute? Say what you want about Lemon, but he was easily the fastest DE on the roster so I'm glad Mallory isn't hiding from his loss regardless of the circumstances which lead up to it. It's interesting to combine Mallory's glowing opinions of Richmond and Richardson along with Okruch's expectations for Province. Perhaps the way these guys impressed the new staff was the impetus for the Carter move to WR in the 1st place.
  16. I used to run the direct snap to Hendry in NCAA 2003 and it worked like a charm everytime. The only time it failed was against Wisconsin near the goal line. Some sort of glitch prevented him from scoring Why do I have the feeling that Wisconsin scored on a huge TD pass soon after lol. And I thought I had Evans covered too I supposed I should have skipped the lame attempt at a "user pick"
  17. Sweet shot from Blair, but his celebration dance needs a little work Ben took a nice elbow on the red card. You can tell Ben and Blair expect to control the possesion, much like they did here. In fact, Ben perhaps got a little careless in the play that lead to the red card on the Revs. It will be very interesting to see how the league adjusts to these guys as the season progresses.
  18. Yet another reference. Aha, they even have a picture of Shawn harassing Army's QB (I recalled him having a pretty good game against them). Rivals Link

  20. This story seems to have some "legs". I thought the discussion regarding Lemon's potential response was pretty funny Link
  21. Unless "food" means a bag of chips or a case of beer, that's just gross. BTW, does Zip Mart still exist? It didn't and it was I'm pretty sure Zip Mart turned into a Middle Eastern store/restaurant that is also now closed (link). link
  22. I wholeheartedly agree with the Cap'n on this. I sure hope things the football board heats up come August. On a side note, I just realized that Lemon was named all-NCAA as a STRONG SAFETY in this simulation. I knew he was out of position at LB last year
