  1. In listening to some of the Zips Live show last night on 1350 am, I heard DC Mallory talk about some of the defensive players that are playing well in spring. He mentioned Sewell and Marcoux on the inside of the line. He mentioned Wagner at inside LB and Thomas at outside LB. He said Richmond had been the best DB so far. I believe he said Waller and Weaver have been getting the most 1st team reps at corner. It's interesting to think of Sewell playing DT. His quickness has got to be a big concern for most MAC OC's, since he's also strong enough that you can't just run over him either. I'm getting the impression that, while the overall size of the Zip D will increase because of the change to the 4-3, there is still an emphasis of speed and skill over size. I guess we'll get a little better indication of this on Saturday.
  2. I was there...WVU actually scored just after time expired at the end of the game. The refs conferred and agreed time had expired. The Zips best chance was thwarted by a WVU player (not the goalkeeper) getting a foot on the ball and deflecting it right at the goal line (awesome play). Thanks for the eyewitness report How was the action in terms of possession?
  3. Playing without Korb, Nagbe or Nanchoff, the men tied WVU 0-0. GoZips Link
  4. Well #26 DePaul (a program that has also had success with players from outside the US) ended the unbeaten season with a 6-1 defeat of the Zips (Link). Hopefully the girls will bounce back and finish the MAC season strong to win the title. Link
  5. I haven't seen any mention of these yet on ZNO and I just stumbled upon them myself. There are a few video reports here covering spring ball. Link
  6. Gaffney continues his steady flow of reports covering Zip spring ball. Link There's more discussion regarding the personnel transfers. It's VERY curious how a JR walk-on from Twinsburg (Doug Richardson) can take over for Carter at safety.
  7. Moving Jalil to WR seems to make some sense. He's got size and speed. The obvious question is his hands. It's a bit unfortunate that he'll only have a year to make the transition. JD was pretty good at moving guys around. I wonder if he ever considered this move? And how about LeVon Morefield still plugging away! Recall he won the Rudy award last year (ZNO links). Hmmmm the ND connections continue to crop up. ZNO Link1 ZNO Link2 If there is a "heart" position on the field, it's got to be fullback. Rocky Bleier is a great example of this. I'd love to see LeVon contribute in 2010. And he has had at least one big pass play out of the backfield so far this spring (GoZips Link). GoZips Link
  8. Assuming UT gives Kowalczyk some time, I think this is the best thing that could happen for this team. I think he'll get it done there.
  9. You guys are old. True, but Z.I.P. is older! But he does have the whole "living in paradise" thing going for him
  10. This could possibly be from a few weekends back, but it's the 2nd time RI has been featured on "quick hits" at this site (link). Football Scoop Link Akron head coach Rob Ianello got them up at 5:30 am on Saturday: “At 5:30 on Saturday morning I got the team up, had them at the indoor facility, and we had a little extra credit assignment.” “A small step forward for team. A small step forward for commitment. A small step forward for everybody being on the same page and trying to work for the same brand.” “One-fail, all-fail.”
  11. eguins sighting in 10, 9, 8.......
  12. O Meister, Meister. Your bitterness seems to preclude any intelligent banter of the matter at hand. Perhaps a little more listening and a lot less of how you say "hand holding," with ZippyRifle and you might learn something. Seriously, "Does your football/penis envy have to come through on every thread?" lol Had you listened to iCoach's speech yesterday at the HOF luncheon, you might have heard him speak of "MH" as one of an arsenal of "secret weapons" he is planning to unleash on the Orangemen at InfoCision Stadium come September 4th. Keep the Faith. GO ZIPS!!!! This deserves two thumbs up!
  13. Hmmmmm and no mention at all of arson threats against the NCAA??? Link
  14. The truth is, Kehres would want NO part of this. He (apparently) likes regular season games that amount to little more than exhibitions whose sole purpose is to "fine tune" the Raiders for the real season. I don't think he'd even want to mess with a D-2 school because of it, but it would be interesting to see him take on, say Edinboro or Ashland. Both of those schools come from pretty decent D-2 conferences though. There just might be a D-2 school out there he could beat.......or even an FCS (especially non-scholly).....but no FBS team would even struggle.
  15. Easy on the track team buddy.
  16. +1 Another nice article from Tom I'll restate the comment I left at ohio.com on the article. I predict Shawn Lemon will have a BIG senior year as a passing down rush specialist. He has shown potential in this role before, but the 3 man front limited his opportunities. Now moved back to end from LB, he will be a handful coming off the edge. Just recall his return of the 2 pt conversion attempt against Toledo (in JD's last shining moment) in 2008. He showed his speed then, and he will show it again this fall.
  17. Two things come immediately to mind. 1) I never ONCE got the impression during their entire run that the Bulldogs don't absolutely LOVE playing for Brad Stevens. In addition, these kids all seemed to be having FUN while nearly pulling off the unthinkable. I am NOT implying that KD needs to go. But I am saying that I don't always see the "fun" aspect of the game while watching the Zips. Maybe I'm not close enough to the program, but it seems to me that the "fun" part of the equation at UA could be raised up a notch or two. 2) It would REALLY be nice if one of our recruits suddenly and unexpectedly grew a few more inches before they set foot on campus.
  18. We can't win a home CBI game against Wisconsin Green Bay. We have a long way to go. Yes, but W-GB was only six RPI slots worse than us. If you take our RPI and divide by the conference standard deviation and multiply by the cross-coefficient constant of statistical relevancy we actually did beat them. Sorry Dave. I'd be quite happy to be in a middling conference and playing for the National Championship. It obviously can be done. I wonder what that ratio of people rooting for Butler vs. Duke is? 5-1/10-1/100-1? Go Jimmy Chitwood! Maybe they'll run the ol' picket fence!
  19. Sounds like a more than a fair assessment. An odd thing is that Huggins and Faust liked each other. I don't think either blames the other for any of the missteps the university took. Some one posted that the J.A.R. was built prior to Huggins arrival. This is correct. I attended the first men's game played in the J.A.R. and Bob Ruppurt was the head coach at that time. And, Dr. Bill Muse was the university president at the time. I was also there and the opponent was BG if I recall correctly. And BG won Rupert was a Canton McKinley legend who was in a little bit too deep at UA.
  20. This has more to do with realignment at the bottom rung, but apparently the NCAA is going to require any FCS team seeking to upgrade to FBS to receive an invitation from an FBS conference first before the NCAA will allow the upgrade. Schools such as Charlotte, Texas St, UT-SA, etc. would not seem to be affected since the Sunbelt would likely want them in. But a school like UMass (one of ZW's favorites) might be affected greatly. In fact, if UMass would want to go to FBS it appears the MAC would be their only real option. Link
  21. That link came up dry (has the word f.l.a.s.h in it) but for anyone who never saw it, its worth a read. Here is an easier link: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/art...x.htm?eref=sihp Best part of the article was the sub head-line: He's a pitcher, part yogi and part recluse. Impressively liberated from our opulent life-style, Sidd's deciding about yoga— Look at the first letter of each word. Outstanding! Plimpton was one of a kind.
  22. I'm glad they added a photo, even if it's old (aren't all photos old ) . I have a photo of AA I wanted to post, but somehow I misplaced it. Is this story gone? The link isn't working and when I go to the BJ Zips front page I don't see the story?!? I think I found it again.....but the photos are gone now. The mystery deepens! Link
  23. Is anybody planning to tailgate?
  24. This is pretty funny. They added some photos of AA for you, Doc. But none of them are new
  25. Here is a Gaffney article on Alex Allen and what he has dealt with the last few years. I completely forgot that he was on the MAC championship team of 2005. Link
