  1. Ianello started recruiting this guy a while ago and finally Jason Stargel Jr is visiting UA this weekend. My bet is he'll commit (Furman seems to be the other school in play).
  2. Point taken. I'm not a fan on T-Bow either. Dr Z may have correctly identified Boomer as the beginning of a period when nicknames were no longer earned. I do like "The Chisel" though
  3. While Zeke’s offense was limited last night, his defense was good and his rebounding was improved. In fact, I think part of the reason Jarrod Jones was able to get those early looks beyond the arc was because Zeke was consciously trying not to stray too far from the basket (rebounding focus). Give credit to Ball St for using that early strategy. I was glad to see Tree get the STO POTG. Like several have mentioned, it had to be difficult for Jones to have Zeke and Tree tag-teaming him all night long. That huge swing late in the game, when Jones missed the alley-oop and Walsh followed up with a three, was likely influenced by the fatigue Jarrod was experiencing from having to battle those two over significant minutes (probably too many, but what other choice does BSU have?). That sure game was a difficult game to watch and I can’t count the number of times I was left screaming at the TV. It just seemed like the entire 1st half effort and focus were spotty at best. Thankfully, AA kept them in the game with his lights-out shooting or the traditional 2nd half charge might have been too little, too late. Note Dambrot was perhaps more vocal, start to finish, in this game than any other this year. He was obviously not happy with the execution, and rightfully so. Harney had a learning experience to be sure. He was burned on defense a few times and forced a few shots on offense. I have no doubt he’ll bounce back at Central. It's great to be 5-1. Go Zips!!
  4. Great news! Go Zips! BTW, posting bogus info, intentional or not (kidding or not), when some ZNO posters MAY have money riding on it shows exceedingly poor judgement. This is especially true if, per chance, one of those members is a moderator.
  5. If true, that changes everything because he was really inside of Randy Davis' head last year. My contingency pick, if AA doesn't play: Zips 74 Cards 76
  6. Not to make any more work out of it, but maybe "student" should be an option?
  7. BS Civil Eng 1984 MS Civil Eng 1991 I grew up in the Pittsburgh area, but have lived in the Akron area since I was an undergraduate. So I selected both alumnus of 10+ years and Akron area resident. It'll be interesting to see the data. Go Zips!
  8. Good idea! Maybe throw in ex-Zip athlete as another category (even if it overlaps with alumnus)? Relative of Zip athlete?
  9. USA Today currently lists Ball St as a 1 1/2 point favorite. That's surprising.
  10. I personally like sports nicknames, but only when they’re fitting. Certainly they’ve been around far longer than Chris Berman. All major team sports have had their share over the years, from those given to individuals and those given to teams or portions of teams. • Fearsome Foursome • Steel Curtain • “Mean” Joe Greene • Maurice “the Rocket” Richard • Wilt “the Stilt” • The Gas House Gang • Big Poison and Little Poison (Paul and Lloyd Waner) • Elroy "Crazylegs" Hirsch • “The Galloping Ghost” aka “Red” Grange • Billy “White Shoes” Johnson • “Shoeless” Joe Jackson • Etc, etc, etc IMO Dr Z is absolutely right however. Has there ever been a bigger ass-clown covering sports nationally? I see NO VALUE in anything that guy does or says. Specifically with regards to his nicknames, they are almost always a lame reach. His real claim to fame is that he just happened to be in the right spot at the right time when ESPN was just about to take off.
  11. That had me puzzled, too. Nick was discussing how he looks at how the defense is playing the other Zip forwards before he enters the game, and he started to talk about whether the defense is fronting them or...... and I think he momentarily had trouble coming up with the words to describe "playing behind your man" (as opposed to fronting). You're right, they should have cleaned that up. But then I wouldn't have gotten a chuckle out of it
  12. Muncie Star Press article That's all you need to know. Zips 78 Cards 70
  13. Hmmm Horny Badger......isn't that what Erin Andrews called Bret Bielema?
  14. I enjoyed the interview with Harney and the segment on Frenchy. Nick handled himself pretty well, as I'm sure he was a little nervous. Dunn asked him to discuss things he's done well and things he needs to work on early in his college career, and Nick only got around to talking about the good He talked about how patient he's been, letting the game come to him and KD agreed (as do I). I couldn't recall when Steve started as the voice of the Zips, but he said he's been doing it since 1989. It just SEEMS like he's done it forever. He loves the Zips as much as we do and I'm glad we have a quality guy like him on the radio side, homer extraordinaire or not!
  15. It's a little unusual when a player has to face his father as an opposing coach. John Elway did it routinely as Stanford QB in their local bay area rivalry games against his father Jack's San Jose St squads in the early 80s. But has a player ever had to face his father as an opposing coach for TWO SEPARATE TEAMS????? Assuming Will is still playing after numerous injury problems, we might just see that on August 30.
  16. Zips offer Cincy St. Xavier RB Conor Hundley. Scout Profile
  17. I also noted that Harney didn't even enter the game until somewhere around the 11 minute (and change) mark of the 1st half. I think KD will likely not wait that long to put him in the rest of the year.
  18. BSU web site article on tomorrow's meeting. I think the following quote must be left from an older article ala the "cut and paste without adequate review" technique. Huh??? Regardless, this should be a very interesting game. Can the younger Zips handle success? Ball St is 9-0 when scoring over 70 points. But the Zips have shown lately that they can win in the 60s, 70s or 80s. Personally, I hope the defense comes out right away with the intensity required to keep the Cards under 70. Looking forward to the call on STO. Go Zips!!!
  19. Look who will be the opposing defensive coordinator in Coach Bowden's 1st game for the Zips!
  20. Different year, different coach, same story as the tennis team gets off to a 2-0 start with 7-0 and 5-2 wins at Oakland and Michigan State respectively.
  21. That should be an STO instant classic. Oooops wrong network. Well it was also on ESPN3, so who knows? I'll sure never forget this game. gozips19 told us ahead of the game, he had the Zips winning by 10. Pretty good call! Not much for me to add beyond what I've seen posted already. But here are a few things I really enjoyed: 1) Nitro getting the 3-ball run started after seeing him struggle overall in the 1st half 2) Chauncey playing perhaps his best half as a Zip and showing the home crowd his "heart" 3) Sophomore Harney absolutely dominating in seemingly effortless fashion 4) K.E.N.T. completely falling apart in the 2nd half for the 2nd straight game 5) Nik's unique sense of humor and his redemption from a goose egg 1st half 6) The "white out" working pretty well OK, now it's that time of the year when the MAC East puts the silly MAC West in its place. Go Zips!!!
  22. Forced out at IU Sanctions followed Senderoff Let's just send him off
  23. The following is a pertinent comment from Marla Ridenour's article on Coach Bowden's recruiting approach/challenge at UA:
  24. @Z.I.P. His father, Dave, was also the QB for Revere HS in the mid 80s well before he was Lee Owens' first DC. I think Dave went to Toledo.
