Zips Fall Short in Thriller Good piece, as usual, George....

Exactly. Let the players play the dadgum game. Did anyone's helmet fly off in any of those supposed "personal foul" hits? NO. Let's not forget the other personal foul on the previous drive (I think it was their previous drive)? They were clearly shoulder pad to shoulder pad HARD hits. Why were all of those calls made by the line judge on Miami's sideline?? I was "schooled" by several long time Zips fans at the game who told me, "Miami ALWAYS gets the calls.. their the darling of the MAC".. Being new to the MAC, I did not know this history. The whole thing made me ill. No one can expect this team to go from worst to first in less than half a season (ok - except me - the perennial glass FULL person) - so yes - our defense gave up a ton of points and yards -- cudos to Miami for a great game plan.. but when it was coming down to the wire - these kids were making stops (i.e 4th and 1s at Tennessee as well as last night) - but the refs made horrific calls that determined the outcome. I agree that is sucks we didn't have time outs left -- but they called them earlier in the half when they needed to. Again - if those bad calls weren't made - I believe the defense would have stopped them - we had the momentum - and you could see it and feel it. I just feel sick for those players... But Coach Bowden will build them back up - and they will be ready for BG - no doubt about it.

I am kind of surprised that there would be as much second guessing about recruiting at this point in the season. We all see what this staff has done with the players that were already here, as well as the true freshmen that they were able to find and bring into the program with about 3 weeks before signing day. I personally am going to continue trusting that this staff knows a hell of a lot more than I do about building a winning football team.

Let's not get carried away.... The "Roo Walk" refers to the PLAYERS walking through the crowd (because they are Roos... actually they are Zips... but let's not get started on that debate either!)... Please, please, please don't ask our guys to hop...

That's great! I'm embarassed tp say that I have still not made it to a soccer match - but I believe Saturday will break that streak. Excited for the March to the Match! I had the opportunity to meet Coach Porter - and was really impressed. Hate that he's leaving - but very happy for him. Soccer has paved a very nice road for "real" football to follow Its the day before our 1st conference game --- lets really show the team how optimistic we are for the future of Zips football!

And of course the fact that the campus/stadium is right downtown - is fantastic... Don't know if there's a concert, or festival etc. going on this weekend -- as there are almost every weekend - but it is a vibrant/"cool" downtown area. There may be soccer going on also (women's game I think Saturday evening? Men's Sunday?).. As a poster above said -- we are four games into a "new era" - but I'm sure you will be blown away by the facilities, the friendliness of the people - and the excitement of the fans that are there. And as much as it pains me to admit -- the school that I attended - "the Miami down south" - probably had fewer people in their stadium 2 weeks ago than a 5 year old t-ball game (and that's with 5 national championships -- inexcusable...). But I digress! Glad that you're making the trip to see the Zips beat Miami (OH) - and start our run in the MAC

What stupid publication does that? The dadgum thing is dated today -- my bad

The band was there for the Morgan State game -- which made ALL THE DIFFERENCE in the world... Now, we need all the fans/families/friends, etc. to get out there as well.. I BELIEVE it does make a difference to the players..

Everybody who plans to be at the game, should plan to be at Roo Walk as well. The buses drop the players off on Vine Street - (between the stadium and the Field House) - and the band, fans, etc. will be there to line the street and welcome the team as they walk together to the locker room. I know its not "Vol Walk" -- but we've got to start somewhere -- and the more people who come out to support the guys 2 hours before kickoff - the better! Let's show these kids how proud we are of them, and how excited we are for them to get Win #2 on Saturday! Roo Walk/Zips Fest Info Let's Go Zips! Beat Miami!

Well - if you consider TODAY, old.... the article is dated September 27th. I believe he got his first START this past weekend...
-
I guess the first question to the OP would be is this an official visit? If so - then those guidelines absolutely apply. If the player is not being recruited by the school (yet) - then they don't apply. A lot of families will come and visit schools to see if they like the area, people, etc. before they are even being recruited... Just trying to clarify the player's standing..

This is really great news... I hoped that Clayton would end up somewhere that he could use his skill set -- and it sure looks like Jackson State is that place. Keep it going, Clayton! Clayton Moore Emerging as Star

Just goes to show you that coaches actually know more than us fans... I remember a lot of comments early in the year, "He didn't even start at an FCS school..." blah blah blah.... Coaching, system, and CIRCUMSTANCES are so incredibly critical to the success of any college football player. There are so many talented players coming out of high school -- but their development and success, for the most part, is dependent upon where they end up, who they play for, if that coach is there for their whole career, etc. etc.... Just so happy for Dalton -- he's got a chance to have a really special season. I am really really optimistic about what our offense will be able to do now that we're into our MAC season...

I am with you 100%. We are capable of winning the next 8 games. We have to play GREAT football, and keep up the fighting spirit we've had thus far -- and I can't see any reason why we wouldn't. These kids are believing in their abilities as football players again - and know that they can play with the "big boys". Ohio should be the toughest game -- but if we play our best, we can win that one too! Let's go Zips! Time to go on an 8-0 run!

Akron Local Recruiting Targets
NewZipsFan replied to wadszip's topic in Akron Zips Football Recruiting
If Pratt is any indication of the kind of players that come out of Green, I would bet a mortgage payment they're looking at every player on that team. -
Hope you're wrong.... I'll say 13,888
-
He's probably just afraid to play against our DBs Just kidding - I hope he plays - we want their best against our best....
-
its a relatively complicated formula - kind of like the passing efficiency rating a QB gets on offense. It combines yardage given up, comp percentage, number of ints, percentage of ints, yards per attempt and tds per attempt.
-
LOL -- we've already had, what, two players of the week? And arguably, Dalton should have gotten it again against Morgan State - the Davey O'Brien Award people had it right that week

That's what Graduate Assistants are for

Let's look at this as logically as possible. We've got statistics through four games for both teams. I don't think anyone would argue with me when I say that our first four games - (let's just say that our game vs Morgan State and Miami's game vs Southern Ill - both FCS teams - are a wash - even though we killed Morgan State and Miami only beat Southern Ill 30-14) have been against better opposition than Miami has faced. A 27-16 win over UMass does not impress me any more than their FCS win. Here are our national statistics through 9-22-12: Here are Miami's stats through 9-22-12: As you can see - we are statistically better than Miami in most categories - and that is, again, against BETTER opponents. When you look at our standings in our conference -- add all of our rankings together, and divide by the 17 categories - we come out at 6.29. Miami comes in at 7.9. Based on math, logic, as well as my overly optimistic view of this Zips team - I say we win 41-14. Watch out MAC - our 8-0 run starts on Saturday
-
Oh that's more than a keeper! And its so true -- he totally smoked those guys! What a great run... those of us in the stands were jumping/screaming/almost passing out from the excitement
-
I think his mind was made up a long time ago. I don't believe he even gave the new staff a chance to talk to him. Where is he, anyway?

Might be the greatest picture taken this season... Except for possibly this one:
