Hustle Belt 2012 MAC Football Position Rankings
NewZipsFan replied to johnnyzip84's topic in Akron Zips Football
I just give these types of "writers" no credibility at all. Saying that a team playing its first season at the FBS level has the #8 OL and #9 DL out of 13 in the conference is just plain silly. FBS talent - regardless of what team- is just higher than an FCS school overall - period. There will/might be exceptions here and there - but not an entire segment. I'm so tired of these "writers" taking a cursory look at last years stats, and deciding that we are the same team as last year. If coaching didn't matter or make any difference, why fire/hire them?? -

Season ticket sales this year vs last?
NewZipsFan replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
As I said above --- the # of NEW season tickets already sold is approximately 2x the amount sold at this time last year. We're talking about retention rate when talking about season ticket renewals. We can only "renew" season tickets that were purchased last year. If we have already renewed 85% of the season tickets from last year - that is TWICE the retention rate of the past two years. This staff can't control the fact that there were fewer season tickets to renew to begin with -
Have y'all seen the ticket promotion on the back of city buses?? Almost drove off the road the first time I was behind a bus with Coach TB saying "buy your dadgum season tickets today". Awesome.

Season ticket sales this year vs last?
NewZipsFan replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
I can tell you with certainty that renewals are already about double the % they were all of last year. NEW season tickets sold are also already more than double the total of last year. -
I think 5 wins would have to be considered one of the biggest turnarounds in recent history. Considering the Zips have won 43 games in the last 10 years (avg of 4.3 wins per season); and have won 5 games or more in only 12 of the 25 seasons they've been at the FBS level, a five-win season would be incredible. I hope everyone has realistic expectations for the season -- I'm not sure what that is... but as long as I see some exciting play, a well prepared and conditioned team, great enthusiasm and players who never quit -- I'll consider it a successful season.

Zips QB Clayton Moore will transfer
NewZipsFan replied to GeorgeThomasABJ's topic in Akron Zips Football
I thought it was pretty bold and considerate of Coach TB to give Clayton enough time to transfer if he chose to. He put the player in the position to make the choice -- he didn't tell Clayton that he couldn't win the starting spot back - just where he stood going in. Clayton chose to transfer; and I think Coach TB probably knew that's what he would do. It was a bold decision because you always really want 3 QB's that you know are competent enough to play with if you had to. Coach Bowden was man enough to be honest with Clayton, and bold enough to know that if he ended up having to go to a 3rd QB at some point, he would have someone ready. -
Be fun to watch Reid and VSU beat the pants off of North Alabama this year If Coach TB was still at UNA, Reid would probably be there.

Gates are open. Drop by and check it out. I would think that closer to the opener, things will be locked up pretty tight. I doubt they're doing much right now that would give away any game planning secrets to UCF or others...

Season ticket sales this year vs last?
NewZipsFan replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
Sales are up DRASTICALLY. Renewals are up DRASTICALLY. It is great news all around. The entire staff at Akron is doing a phenomenal job. -
Marquelo Suel, Dalton Williams, Jarrod Pughsley and Vinnie Rizzo are the only ones I could identify. Great job by the Zips video staff.

We've got kickers. I know that Coach Bowden has confidence in Stein.

That's dadgum funny

Haha. Enjoy your pessimism. You've probably earned it. However, my optimism is not without merit. I can see this program from a new and fresh perspective and believe that Zips Football (American football) will be nationally relevant in the not-too-distant future.
-
And with the talk of automatic qualifiers being "deleted" from the national championship/playoff/bowl formula - an undefeated and highly ranked MAC team will have just as good of a chance getting to the "dance" as a Big East/CUSA team.
-
May not be this year... But they'll be here... And it will be because its the biggest/most exciting game of the weekend.. (not because of a contest) Mark my words!
-
I think now that he's finally been drafted -- has a team/coaches that believe in him, and want to help him succeed -- he will be a lot more relaxed. I read one article today that said he was going to be a "quote machine" - after hearing the Pacman statement... He can really show his personality now - its going to be a lot of fun to watch him and listen to him. I was really hoping Cleveland would take him... Maybe his first punt return in the NFL will turn out the same way that OUR Cornerback Coach's did?? T-Buck's NFL Debut

If you want to see our offense -- watch Oklahoma State and WVU. Done.

I'm told that it will be live on GoZips today...

Well --- stats do lie sometimes... Dalton's INTs came against the first team defense (obviously -- VERY good for our Defense)... and I don't think Kyle got as many reps as they would have liked - with the way the game was set up, the 2nd half was over very quickly. And of course -- this was JUST the Spring Game. The one thing Coach Bowden hates more than anything -- is MISTAKES. I've been saying this all along -- he wants a QB with a great grasp of the offense, great decision making skills, poise under pressure, AND great confidence. The QB MUST understand this offense's philosophy - and follow it. High percentage plays, quick tempo, get the ball into the hands of the playmakers, and NO turnovers. Whoever demonstrates the best of those abilities, will be our starter.
-
Not to continue to , but I just went back and looked at the stats again from the Spring Game. Remember that the QBs rotated with both teams.. Here are their stats (the left column is when they were playing with the 2's, right column is with/against the 1's:)

Yep - sure did. But I am now calling coke and all sodas, "pop"....

I'm surprised that no one has commented on this post from yesterday... A former player/alumni stepping up and getting involved not only with his presence at functions, but with actual money donated to the program is a big deal, IMO. It seems like we need more of this kind of support from former Zips players --- not just $$, but their involvement/time, etc.... (EDIT --- SORRY! WAS TYPING THIS AT THE SAME TIME AS CAPT WAS POSTING....)
