What a game. Our red zone offense is absolutely horrible!!! 1st and 5 and we can't punch it in! It was good to see a mix of plays in the 1st half. And IT WORKED!!! We were on a roll in the first half. Why change things in the second half? We came out of the locker room and decided to try the same old plays that never work. If it's not broken, DON'T FIX IT!!!! Nice move by Stec to get the first down! He dropped it, but it was a low snap too! Then to his punt in the 4th. I have never seen a 5-yard punt, out of bounds! That was embarrassing! Defense played a good game. There were a few dumb moves, but overall, very good. Thanks for yet another penalty, Crouch! A big one too. And about CJ, can I just say DAAAAAAMN!!!! What a bomb he threw! Was incomplete due to the pass interference, which was called, but what a pass! It was a perfect spiral and right where it needed to be! I think he's going to do big things! Can't wait 'til next year! He did a nice job in the pocket. QUICK FEET! Boy's got speed! i wish we had some easy games left to see more of what he can do! I think after that performance, the Akron fan following may have a new favorite in mind! Another favorite may be Andre Walker. He's another up-and-comer! Nice performance, good things to come! Can't wait til next Thursday to see what we can bring against OU. Can I just say that I hope they come out more excited than they did last night! We looked like we just didn't care coming out of that locker room. No excitement, no fire, nothing. I was afraid we were going to see another Toledo! They better find the fire for next week, or they will get their asses handed to them!GO ZIPS!

And crouch with a BIG 15 yarder!!! Not to mention the rest of the team! In the 3rd quarter, our offense had 2 penalties, were saved when Stec missed the low snap, picked the ball up and ran for the 1st down, then followed by 3 more penalties! Are you kidding me?? 5 penalties in the same series!!! COME ON!!!!!!

What were you expecting? JD to be pulling in millions? Sorry to burst your bubble, but there SHOULD be a huge gap b/t coaches in the 2 leagues. The MAC doesn't really compare to Big Ten football, in talent, size, fan base, nothing. How would expect a coach at a school with an average fan base of 10k at a game to compete with schools that pool 100k+ to the game every week, not to mention national fan bases, apparel, etc. If a MAC were to pay their coaches even 500K a year, where would you expect that money to come from? Attendance, licensing apparel nationally, all that stuff gives money to a school in the Big Ten. Sorry, I was just a little shocked that you were so shocked by that number. That number for JD is after his 3rd year of coaching, with a Championship and bowl berth one year, and contentions the other 2 years. Imagine what a coach from a school like Buffalo makes, with this year being an improvement with 2 wins!

Defense is going to come out explosive. Offense will come out and struggle in the first half. They will finally get it together and pull ahead in the 2nd half. Defense holds strong. Final Score: Akron: 27Buffalo: 14While all predictions are just that, predictions, there is one thing I can "predict" and it will for sure occur: Crouch finishes the game with another penalty against him.

I hope you're right that we blow them out, I'm just stating an opinion based on past performances against a winless Buffalo team from last year and Toledo from this year. Agreed to disagree!

That's why I don't think anyone has the right to think we have this game in the bag. In the "Get ready, here it comes" post, TXZipFan basically called me crazy for thinking this week is even going to be a game. Noone can look past Buffalo at this point in the season. Every win matters for every team. Even the bottom feeders can upset the teams on the top and cause a whole new ballgame in the MAC. With Buffalo having nothing to lose, they are going to come into Akron with some fire, just like they did against Can't. Both teams are coming off wins and I am expecting it to be neck-and-neck. GO ZIPS!!!

If that's true...that's a load of BS. It's great that it meant we won the game, but if we were in BG's position, I wouldn't want the game to be called on the ref's need to get inside in front of his TV!!

It needs to be the seniors that lead this team to another victory season!!! I don't think enough of the younger guys have the team mentality in them to pull it together! The further through the season we get, the more the attitudes appear. One game at a time,....that's how it's done. One game at a time. This is the only time this season that we have 2 home games in a row. We need to use it to our advantage. Beat Buffalo, we are on a winning streak. Get on a winning streak, gain momentum. It would put us one step closer to another MACC. Momentum and heart is what this team needs going into OU. That is going to be a tough game. If these seniors can get it into the heads of these younger guys that, despite everything else that has happened this season, this is the time to pull together and make big things happen. These seniors know what it takes to get where they were last year. I would hate to see them end their college careers on a loss to OU in the 2nd to last game. They worked so hard for what they got last year, and even if nobody else does, those seniors deserve to repeat this year. I will be there rooting them on! To Alleman, Reggie Corner, Kiki, Groza, Luke and J. Reid.............BRING IT HOME BOYS!!!

I'm simply going by past performances. When we faced Buffalo last year (with a better running back and a lot better receivers and actually using our TE to make plays), we were behind until the 4th quarter. Our offense had 4 possessions totaling less than 2 minutes. I understand that everyone says "it's Buffalo and they only beat Can't because Can't sucks". Fact is, Buffalo beat Can't, Can't beat us, as JD said....transitive property says they should beat us. We also got beat by Toledo which was winless when they beat us. I'm not saying that we don't have the potential to beat them, but knowing our cycle, with having a good game last week, ending in a win, it would not surprise me if we beat ourselves this week. Just like we did at Toledo. We will have to be up by 28 points for JD to put CJ in this week. It is possible....IF WE COME TO PLAY!!! We went into the Buffalo game last year looking past them and almost got beat and that was with a lot better team than we have seen this year! I would rather be pessimistic and be pleasantly surprised than going into this thinking "we got it in the bag" and be pissed at the end of the game! I will still be there supporting my team, and hope to see a win!
-
I'll give it to him, he had a good game this week.....BUT....based on his consistent inconsistency, and last year's game against Buffalo, look for him to jack it up this week!
-
Agreed zipboy. It was nice to see Long on the field again. He has a calmness about him that allows him to settle down and play his game. Good game by Walker. Not a huge amount of yards, but big plays when we needed them. DK hasn't been 100% since the Can't game when he hurt his shoulder. Heard he had to have minor sugery on it after that game. It is still bothering him. Wouldn't expect to see him 100% the rest of the season. Last I heard, Wills possibly tore his MCL. Again, that's just what I heard, but if it's true, he's done. Why was McPherson back in the game yesterday? He hasn't even dressed in i think 2 weeks. I don't know why he was out to begin with, but he was not who I wanted to see taking J. Reid's place. He was in there most of the series when BG make long drives down the field. At this point in the season, I would like to see the #1s left in the game in times where plays need to be made. Sub the #2s in when there's a little room for error. Give the big boys a rest, then get them back in there. I don't like to see the starters out for whole series at a time. There were a few times when Kiki, J. Reid, Grant and Cecchetti were all out at once. I think that's asking for trouble.
-
We have to take it one game at a time. I have a feeling if the team starts looking at the chance of making it to the MACC again, they will overlook some of teams on the way there! Buffalo has shown the rest of the league that they are not a team to be overlooked, which many teams do with a winless team! At this point, with the possibility of repeating last year's accomplishments, it's all about one game at a time! A win over Buffalo then means we can look to OU. A win at OU then means we can look to WM. Nothing sooner!

That was a great call, but it was a BS call against us in the 1st half. The ball was uncatchable when they called us with interference. How did I know that JD's "gonna play CJ more" was total BS too!! We will be lucky to even see him against Buffalo. Thanks to Crouch for proving my point about a guaranteed pentaly from him every game. 2 actually in this game. False start and holding. Ok...so everyone makes a mistake and jumps early sometimes, but holding EVERY SINGLE GAME!!! COME ON!!! Nice to see use of our TE some. I know Kasparek dropped a couple, but he's not used to seeing the ball in his hands! Third time's a charm though! Lets see it a little more JD!Big catches by Jabari! GOOD JOB!! Keep it up!Does anyone have a secondary defense we can borrow because ours doesn't seem to know how to play. Some pass coverage would be nice once in awhile! It's a W, but it was in no way a pretty one!
-
To the 1st sentence of that post......i think we already have a few....if they would ever get a chance to prove it. To the 2nd sentence.....AMEN BROTHA!!!!
-
That game sure shocked me!! Just shows that noone should overlook Buffalo this season! Anything can happen! I know I am one who was expecting them to be a sure win for everone else in the MAC! Guess they proved me wrong! We better come out and stick it to 'em Thursday!

I totally agree that there are more problems than Luke. The way I see it though, a QB is supposed to be one of the key leaders on a team. He is supposed to be able to pull an offensive unit together to work as a team. And most importantly, he is supposed to give other guys the chance to get their job done. He is anything but a leader on that team. How are guys supposed to be led by someone who is so inconsistent and weak. Out of all the times he has gotten sacked, I have yet to see the boy take a hit. He practically lays down before they get to him. And even with the win at NC State, he's lucky DK got the ball in on that last drive. He could've scored the TD himself if he wouldn't have slid a yard short of the goal line. It's the end of the game, looking for the game-winning TD, PUT YOUR HEAD DOWN AND GO FOR IT!!! And it's hard for our receivers to be consistent when they aren't getting consistent good passes. Noone can blame an entire loss on one person like that, but he has had a large part. At Toledo, it was 1st and 3. The delay of game from Luke's inability to call for the snap with MORE than 3 seconds left on the play clock, bad passes, a sack and a false start penalty left us at 3rd and 22. Those are the situations where a QB is supposed to step up and get that TD. Luke can never execute in the red zone. 7 offensive points in that game. 7 out of 20. And 14 of Toledo's points came against our offense through interceptions. Tell me that isn't his fault. Our defense held Toledo to 21 points, and NCAA tradition has it, normally when a defense can hold a team to 21 points or less, their team wins the game!! But then again, that's assuming that their offense can get the job done, starting with the QB!!!

There are things I wanted to say in retort to this post, but half of it, I couldn't even understand his English, let alone his point!
-
But if he's not performing early in a game, and makes to costly mistakes, why keep him on the field? This sounds like everyone's discussions about Getsy. "Keep him on the field, he's the man". Point blank: if a player is not getting the job done, take him out.

GO JT!!
-
Still pretty pathetic that our 2nd highest point total is 20!!
-
Good call on the dudette!!! But I wasn't saying we won't be bowl eligible, I'm just saying that either Can't or Ohio will play either CMU or WMU in the MACC. The other 2 left out of the MACC will take the other 1 or 2 spots in the bowls accepting MAC teams. Put simply, we may still be bowl eligible, but no way we are going to get a bid!
-
I don't care if the #2 behind Crouch sucks! It would just be nice to see someone in there that doesn't have guaranteed penalties EVERY GAME!!!!

After the loss against Toledo, we are not going to make it in a bowl. In the East:Ohio (4-1) with E. Michigan, Akron and Miami leftCan't (4-1) with Buffalo, E. Michigan and Ball State leftBowling Green (3-2) with Akron, Miami and Toledo leftIn the West: C. Michigan (5-0) with W. Michigan, NIU and Buffalo leftW. Michigan (4-1) with Miami, C. Michigan and Akron leftNIU (3-2) with Toledo, C. Michigan and E. Michigan leftRealistically:Ohio wins out, ends 7-1Can't wins out, ends 7-1Bowling Green beats Miami and Toledo, loses to Akron, ends 5-3CMU wins out, ends 8-0WMU loses to CMU and Akron and beats Miami, ends 5-3NIU beats Toledo and E. Michigan and loses to CMU, ends 5-3Akron wins out, ends 5-3Could happen:Ohio beats Miami and E. Michigan, loses to Akron, ends 6-2Can't beats Buffalo and E. Michigan and loses to Ball State, ends 6-2BGSU loses to Toledo and Akron, beats Miami, ends 4-4CMU loses to WMU and NIU and beats Buffalo, ends 6-2WMU beats Miami and CMU and loses to Akron, ends 6-2, or beats Akron and ends 7-1NIU wins out and ends 6-2Akron wins out and ends 5-3 or gets beat by WMU and ends 4-4Either way, there is no chance we are making it to a bowl this year. There are too many teams that have won enough games and have enough sure wins left to take the spots.Point of this whole configuration is to show that Luke has not proven that he can carry a team to anything, whether it be championship or bowl. And I know someone is going to say "what about last year?" Answer to that is, he had amazing receivers that could catch horrible passes, he had the workhorse known as Brett Biggs making huge plays, and he had a defense that had amazing endurance. If anyone recalls the Buffalo game last year, in the 1st half, the offense had possessions that were 6 seconds, 15 seconds and 45 seconds long. AGAINST BUFFALO!!!! The catch in the MAC Championship was an amazing catch by Hixon, a sliding catch. Jabari had jumping catches in the Bowl game. These guys got Luke the stats he had. Toledo was 0-4 in the MAC, and we got beat by them. Not to mention that only 7 of the points we did score actual offensive points. He has not proven that he is the best QB we have. Truth is, it's just because we haven't seen anyone else. Noone can tell me that someone else couldn't have scored 7 (or maybe more) points against Toledo. And there's going to be that one person that says "what about the Miami game with CJ?" That was one play. If Luke got judged by his bad plays, DAMN!!! Until I see someone else prove that they suck more than Luke, I have no reason to believe he is the best we have. If that he truly is the best we have, God help our team next year!

Just wondering what your reasoning is on this comment.
