- First game on campus where "fans" do what they always do and leave early in bunches.

USAToday article about Akron and Minnesota opening new stadiums today. Amazing to see a national paper even mention us.

I'll sum up tailgating in one picture:Now i gotta go clean that out since about 20 other people (including those pictured) used that thing besides me and my group .

Parking lots open at 10:00 AM on game day
RootforRoo44 replied to ZachTheZip's topic in Akron Zips Football
I'm going to try to be up there earlier than 10, we will see what they do. My girlfriend works saturday at the university for a few hours in the morning so ill be driving her and have a right to be there. Let's see what they do when i bust out the grill for breakfast. -
AMEN, what's with all this whining? We need to start winning big games, period.

The lot next to the computer center and Mary Gladwin is the best. Open area, grassy areas and away from the big crowds. It will be a party surely and hopefully far enough removed from the main area that cops aren't hounding everyone Can't State tailgating style.

Toledo giving away shirts for OSU gear
RootforRoo44 replied to Bleacher Bum's topic in Akron Zips Football
LOVE THIS. What a great idea, honestly. I compare it to the campaigns to get guns off the streets. OSU crap is dangerous, it leads to people becoming sheep to other things as well (it's like a gateway front runner). -

http://docs.google.com/Doc?docid=0AXBFAcNQ...5yZ3A&hl=enhere is where we'll be tailgatingYES! That is where i will be as well. Club Baseball will be tailgating in that area. We have a few kegs and will have tons of food. Feel free to stop by and have some! Anyone else that wants to stop by feel free as well, we are trying to raise money for our upcoming season.Info -
Tailgating...the final pregame thread
RootforRoo44 replied to RootforRoo44's topic in Akron Zips Football
I saw the same thing about the parking. In terms of the keg, it will be in a kegerator so it wont be exposed and will be very cold -
We need a thread just for last minute tailgating related things and questions. Where is everyone planning on setting up? What will you be cooking? What will you be drinking? Also, what is the final word on alcohol? I have a keg already bought, is it allowed or what?

Anyone who wants some trivia in the final minutes before kickoff check out the Zips football app on facebook. It'll get you ready for Akron Football 2009.

Man, i'm torn here. You are right that the Dems are wrong to push their idiotic healthcare bill on all of us but what you have wrong is that the "Democrats" are likely OSU/Can't fans. The OSU/Can't fans would normally be the ones pushing stuff on us Akron fans. Zips fans are usually more intelligent and not sheep. So come on, jump to the right side and root for the Zips until the Suckeyes fans get out of our bars.

"Those who tailgate on concrete will still be able to drink from glass -- the rule applies only to the grass lots."Sounds like a rule that Can't would implement. Shouldn't it be the other way around?

damn. gotta give props to the prepsDont give them too much props...they'll pop their collars even more.

As much as i hate to say it I will be at the Barley House to watch the game. Screw the buckeyes though, i'm rooting for the Zips and i'm going to make sure i bring alot of people with me to drown out the Cowlumbus fans. However i will be at the OBC prior to and following the Zips win. Ah, now i dont feel so bad.
-
Screw Barley House and their OSU supporting waitresses/bartenders. I root for the ZIPS and i'll be at the OBC drinking AKRON beer with AKRON fans.

I'll finally give my prediction:Zips - 31, PSU - 27 -
haha, i love his description of the students that show up for some games. I guess i'm a special ed student too because i'm one of those "12" students that show up each basketball game. The only thing he is right on is the fact that most students just show up for games that are considered "big games". It is true that we have had pretty bad student support but i think that is starting to change. This stadium sure as hell will help.

I think it's a good advertising tool.

My family and I talked to a few players and one of them mentioned that they were looking at a few other schools including OU, but that Akron's campus was nicer and easier to get around (OU is apparently too spaced out). He also mentioned the stadium was a big factor in his decision. GREAT job today though. VERY impressed with the stadium and how the event was run. It was fun just to walk around and the fact that they let you walk on the field was awesome. PUMPED FOR THE MORGAN STATE GAME! GO ZIPS!!!!Hey ill be honest with you, OU's campus is a bit less spaced out than Akron's. Especially with the parking situation this semester, that has made it not even close. But i'll be happy that this player thought that it was the case and came here because of it.

THANKS! That pretty much answers my question. Now about my beer bong.

I disagree.I loved parking in the Rubber Bowl lot. It really turned into a great party spot within the last 5-or-so years. What will be lost, tailgating-wise, is the ability to park wherever you want, however you want. The ability to be really obnoxious and have such ample spacing amongst fans that no one really cared if you were obnoxious. The ability to play football, golf, beer pong, whatever, without limits. All that was unique to the Rubber Bowl and is lost. But that's the price of moving up. Paying a premium to park an RV is VERY common at football games. I still think people will drink, play corn hole, cook out, play music and whoop it up @ Infocision. I know I will. For those students who want the beer pong, funnels, 110 decibel music etc, they will need to party in someone's off campus back yard, then walk to the game. That's the way it is done everywhere else.Well i wasn't necessarily complaining about paying for the RV. I just was asking if anyone knew the price. But i have a feeling that they will crack down on fun times and keep it from being a true college tailgate. And beer pong and beer bongs ARE part of tailgating. What's going to happen to my 20 foot beer bong?!That must have been the work of future engineers.Actually yes it was haha

Fans wishing to bring an RV must purchase a specialized RV parking pass prior to the day of the game. To purchase a pass call the Athletics Ticket Office at 1-888-99-AKRON.And how much is that gonna cost? I'm not really that excited for tailgating at the new stadium, i have a feeling things are going to be done wrong and it's going to be a MAJOR step down from the Rubber Bowl or any other major college football gameday.
