  1. You want to do...the OU one? I'm just curious what you find interesting about it. I personally don't like it because it kind of bores me, all they do is move forward & backward. Then again, that's just my opinion! I'm no Michigan fan, but if you changed a few things here & there, I think their pregame would be pretty good. Again, this is just me.The OU one is clean and professional. It also gets the crowd going. The Michigan one looks like a bunch of fairys prancing all over the place, the last thing we need is to look gay when our band comes onto the field.I'm also confused as to how the sloppy marching style we use is "harder than OU's"? I honestly dont care how we march, as long as everyone looks on the same page and not out of sync like we are 99% of the time.OU basically stomps around the field. It makes the sound suffer really bad since your upper body is bouncing all over the place. We do a chair step, kind of a mix between a glide and show band step which makes it a lot smoother. The idea is it keeps your upper body perfectly straight with your horn about parallel to the ground and allows you to have a much steadier airflow and posture leading to a better sound. The problem is that if you don't do it completely right it's really uncomfortable and to make everyone look uniform it takes a lot of concentration and you get tired pretty quick. If you slack off at all it looks like crap. Hope that helps! If you've ever listened to them you'd hear that they are the loudest band in the MAC and one of the loudest in the country. There is not one person with any knowledge of College football or marching that would agree that their sound is anything but loud and projected. In terms of you guys marching the way you do, you really should find something that everyone can handle because what you do now is already too tough it seems. A tougher marching style like Grambling State or Ohio University would be great just most bands cant handle it.The problem is that you're equating a "loud" sound with a "good" sound. There is definately a difference. Listen to the video again really carefully you'll hear people sticking out and out of tune bad. That's why they get the reputation they do from people who know music. Can't has the same problem, except they aren't big enough to compensate for it. I know you don't care because you're going to be drunk and you want them to be loud and pump up the crowd, but a lot of people do.are you seriously in the band? Like for real? I'm shocked still at what you are saying. First off you are on the side they are facing away from and it's a crappy camera video so it's impossible to tell loudness. Also, i dont know where you hear this out of tune stuff. I think you need to start giving credit where credit is due and just accept the fact that Ohio University has the best marching band in the MAC and are leaps and bounds ahead of ours. Though we shouldnt want to emulate them, we should at least be striving to be as good or better in our own way instead of just picking out things that are wrong with them. We should especially stop makign up things and saying they are bad.

  4. Can you imagine if we had connections with the two greatest basketball players of all time? That's recruiting gold.Marcus Jordan Chooses UCFToledo apparently gave him a look
  5. honestly, that kid has some hops
  6. OH MY GOD!!! I love them, i dont know what it is...they just look so good i want to jump on that bandwagon and proclaim my life long love for them!!!! p.s. Hey moderators, we need a OSU Sucks sign.
  7. I agree...personally i believe OSU might be a little overrated considering the ridiculous amount of praise everyone keeps heaping on them. There are plenty of great college marching bands out there that are better than OSU, we just are familiar with them and they have a perennial power house football team so they seem better. They do a good job of hyping themselves and they have an identity. That's why people are bringing them up.I want our band to have an identity. I don't care if it's a traditional marching band style or if they exclusively play Sting songs, so long as they find something they can be known for and then commit to doing it extremely well. The whole "trying to please everybody" thing will never work.Personally, when I think of what a "college football" band should sound like I think of the College Gameday music on ESPN.You might want to rethink that, have you thought about how a hundred plus people playing Sting might sound?! The horror!
  8. That dunk as 28 seconds is filthy

  10. I don't want to say that, but as crazy (and great) of a game as baseball is, anything could happen if we matched up against eachother. I personally believe that my starting infield is as good if not better but their depth would give them the edge. Also, though i do have some very talented pitching, some who definitely have the talent to play competitive college baseball, Akron just has so many resources in terms of pitching. I guess we will see though, we play some very good teams in the next few weeks, some Club teams and some D3 teams.
  11. Well being a club team means:1) We pay our own way. Actually though we have raised alot of money through sponsorships and only had to pay about 200 dollars a person to play. That's well under what i pay for summer ball so not too bad.2)Tryouts were open to any student and we held them in mid to late october last fall. We had about 45 people at tryouts just from word of mouth and me sending a few facebook messages. I expect that this fall when we hold tryouts again there will be even more interest. 3) Club Baseball is actually quite competitive. Most would compare it to D2 or high D3 baseball. Actually, i believe we have 7 guys who played college ball somewhere else before coming here. They played at places like Ohio Northern and Tiffin. Many schools use the Club teams as a pipeline for talent and take players for the "varsity" team. Some schools (Penn State for example) even go as far as sending guys that don't get much playing time down to their club teams (they have 2) to get them more work. We don't exactly have that sort of relationship yet with the baseball program but i have spoken to Coach Bangston and i am trying to get something like that organized. So basically i would say that yes we are somewhat of a JV team. I don't want to sound like i'm talking us up too much but i am pretty confident that a good few of our players could play if not start for the Varsity team here. I know that a handful of my guys are planning on trying out this fall so we will see who makes the cut. A few transferred here with that intent.I would especially love to organize a scrimmage with the team but I have a feeling they wouldn't want to do such a thing considering they really don't have anything to gain from it. But anyone that is interested in playing next year feel free to stay tuned for information as i will be sure to have fliers posted on campus and a good bet would be to join this group on facebook. It is how i get most information out about the team. Club Baseball group
  12. Nope! Thanks, we wanted to with our own look and be a bit original. We are going for the more conservative and classic look. Of course not too classic. It's actually supposed to be 57 and sunny on saturday! But let's pray that doesn't change.
  13. FINALLY...responsibility! Thank you and i wish you luck in your work to make this thing better. Honestly, i think this entrance is awesome:Just dont do this crap:
  14. The Akron Club Baseball team swept The Can't State Club Baseball team in a doubleheader Sunday by scores of 12-2 and 2-1.Game 1: The Zips scored three in the first and poured on six more in the 2nd, capped by a tape measure Brandon Morton grand slam. They added two more in the 5th and one in the 6th to evoke the mercy rule in their Inaugural game. Notes: Tim LaBar went 3-3 with 2 RBI's. Zach Toole (W, 1-0) gave up 1 earned run in 4 1/3 innings. Brandon Morton homered and had 5 RBI's. Zach Toole (P) Brandon Morton (3B)Tim LaBar (IF/P) Brandon Fabris (P)Game 2: The second game was a pitchers duel as Mike Jones (Can't State) and Tim LaBar (UA) battled for 7 1/3 innings and 7 innings respectively. The Zips broke the scoreless tie in the 5th with an unearned run and Can't answered with a run of their own on a sacrifice fly in the 7th. Cono Passione would win it for the Zips in extra innings with a game winning walk off single in the bottom of the 8th. Notes: Tim LaBar finished out a perfect 6-6 day at the plate with 3 more hits, he also threw 7 innings scattering 5 hits, giving up 1 unearned run, and had 6 K's . Cono Passione (W, 1-0) picked up the win by pitching a scoreless 8th. Kyle Sprague (Middle IF)Cono Passione (P/3B/OF)Remember these names, you could be seeing a few of these guys on the Varsity team next year.BTW, the Club team travels to Dayton this weekend for 2 games against Wright State.
  15. Well let me first apologize to the band members that are actually putting in the effort. I guess if even 95% of you were doing that then the other 5% could ruin it for the rest so i understand that. I was hoping some of the more dedicated band members (the ones that do actually care about what they do/could probably play somewhere better but choose akron for the same reasons the rest of us do) would come out and comment on this. A response that isn't full of excuses is refreshing as well. The only thing i have to say is to "P.P.S. If you really need the band to PUMP you up, maybe you should find a good anti-depressant or something." There are plenty of people like that at the games that just dont get into it, they truly do need the band to "pump them up". The newcomers and first time fans are the ones that really benifit from the experience as well so dont forget there are plenty of those lame fans out there (ya know the ones who are sitting with 1 min left in a tie game vs Can't).
  16. Now i wonder what the other 2 non felons on the team will do....we can only wait on their move.
  17. Obviously...fact of the matter is that while I was in band alone we hit just about every genre we could. the only reason he isn't happy is because he doesn't want to be happy. he wants to sit here and complain until he has exactly what he wants and could care less about anything or anyone else. I doubt he has watched a single halftime show in his life and is basing his entire argument off one or two small instances that he has witnessed the band. I've agreed with some of your points (not just standing around in public view, finding better ways to file in and out of the stands ect) but you are getting to be ridiculous. this band will obviously never please you and no matter what they do you will always find something to cry about so how about you just get over it and continue to prefer monkeys flinging crap at each other over a corp style band that hits a large range of music.and for the record if you only have 4 hrs to get a show ready is not enough no matter how hard you work (not that I would expect you to know anything about that)For your information, i have seen every home halftime show for 18 years. And yes i will not be satisfied until our band stops acting like a bunch of sloppy no care high school band members and steps it up to the level they should be it. STOP MAKING EXCUSES.
  18. Are you kidding me? I don't think you guys understand what you are here for. You are not here for protecting art, you are here for PLAYING PUMP UP MUSIC AND ENTERTAINING US AT FOOTBALL GAMES. I think alot of you just need to quit and join a concert band or something. I do want more showeyness and i do want you to hump the air and dance. Honestly i'm not even in the loop with the whole band thing but i can tell you that you need to take a look at 9 out of 10 other bands in the country and see that you are rating for below them in terms of what fans think. Honestly how can you say these things and be serious? Or are you being sarcastic?
  19. If OU can do it with 110, I say we shoot for 110. We don't need a big, sloppy band just to cover the whole field. We need a more elite group of precision marchers, who take the band seriously, and who play loud. Likewise, OSU's band isn't a huge band, is it? However, they may get away with having fewer members because, if I'm not mistaken, they only allow brass and percussion in the marching band, am I correct? Thus the high volume they produce with a smaller number of precision marchers. If we would actually DECREASE the size of our present band, it may have the effect of making a position on the marching band a prestigious position? Something that must be earned? thus, decreasing the number of openings in the marching band may produce the effect we're desiring?OU has far more than 110...that's just a name nowadays. They are around 200 people if im not mistaken. How about our band stops making excuses and puts some effort into it. This attitude problem they have won't cut it.I know plenty of band members who are looking ahead to the season and planning for it now, and this is not true! They do the best with what they have. My advice is until you're gonna go out there and be in Ohio's Pride stop the negative comments. They work hard all semester. Wanna help! an easy one CLAP AFTER THEY PLAY A PEICE show support for a group who puts there tears and sweat YOUR UNIVERSITY... wereall on the same team here folks! and this needs to stop you're suppose to be helping the band, and keep the negative comments yourself....Also when in the case of OU and OSU.... They have had long running traditions and tons of funding since the early 1900's.... Akron, well hasn't. I mean look at our Tuba's...Just think about who reads this! you want band members not to care keep the negative comments coming cause i know about 20-30 of them who read zipsnation on a daily bases and this thread is already going between them, and for those of them who really care. I think you should get it!i honestly could care less if they wiped the whole program clean. It might be a good idea. Start all over again, because it's just not cutting it.Again though, some band members are saying that they dont have enough time to practice and others are saying that they put all of this hard work in. Which one is it? I honestly don't believe that much effort or care if being put into the playing by majority of the members. If that was the case, the band would like far more professional and be far more in step. So again, stop making excuses and just do what you have to do to get better. The people that keep making excuses still, just cut them. Better to have a smaller better band.
  20. Why is the only thing i hear is that we are better than Can'ts band? That's not enough. Let's aim a bit higher than the embarrassment that is anything involved with their football program. You are correct though, we are leaps and bounds better than that sorry excuse for a marching band.
  21. Cool. Good luck! Where'd you play high school ball?I played at Wadsworth. We have 7 guys that have played college baseball at a variety of schools (including myself) and we actually should have a pretty good club. I would be surprised if a few of the guys (a few that have transferred into Akron this year) don't make the Varsity this fall. If you come out you may be pleasantly surprised how good of a team we have fielded.Sweet. Wadsworth ALWAYS has a really good program. I played at Green so am well aware of that! One summer I played on an outrageously stacked AA team (back in the day) called the Boys of Summer with players from Wadsworth, Norton, Tallmadge, Hoban & St.V/M and elsewhere around Summit. We were crazy good. I was supposed to play at Malone but didn't end up wanting to give it the necessary effort. But that made me quite familiar with how good even small college ball is! Let alone D-1 - a level at which I could have never played. I can't make it on Sunday, but good luck, have fun & keep us updated on the schedule - I wouldn't mind watching a game at all!I'll be sure to post the results as well as the schedule on here tomorrow. The Boys of Summer back then were pretty stacked. You are definitely right as well, even small college baseball is very good in places. I played at Ohio Dominican (NAIA in columbus) freshman year and i can honestly say that we would have been a tough opponent for the Zips team this year. But definitely come out and watch a game, we have 2 more scheduled games against that school out east this spring as well.Btw, Green and Talmadge are definitely the big rivals for us so i gotta mention that i hit a late inning go ahead home run to beat you guys back in 04
  22. Yes. That is a VERY important fact. Anyway, I hope your club team gets all the support they need. Having a club team is a huge step towards improving a school's varsity team. That's what they say. And it's not like they dont need some help.Thank you btw! Hopefully we can start things off right with 2 wins.
  23. I think the Sounders home games may be more doable for Z.I.P.Oh i was talking about everyone else.
