I agree, the University is going to ruin what momentum they had with this stupid and costly decision.

So, will the team practice in ICS??
RootforRoo44 replied to Zipsrifle's topic in Akron Zips Football
from what i have seen in my time at the campus the last 2 years, the football team seems to practice in the fieldhouse more than anywhere else. this is probably a good idea as it leaves the outdoor practice field open for intramural sports for the students and a lot of time for other fall sports like soccer to practice. I think i could count on 2 hands the number of times ive seen the football team on the outdoor practice field. Are you kidding me? I've seen the Football team on that practice field countless times. They may practice more in the Fieldhouse but it's not that much more. It would be nice however to actually have some student use of that field as it basically is locked at all times and is only used for flag football intramurals....that's pretty lame i think. -
BINGO on the marketing. But besides that it also it tough to compare that 96 title when there were no where near the amount of students overall and no doubt a smaller fraction of them living on campus compared to today. So with some winning and some marketing you never know how many fans it could bring to games. BTW, thanks for the props Zippy5. We are trying to make Club Baseball a big deal and hopefully we can help out the real team by showcasing some guys that could be walkons. You may be up against steep competition with the Aeros, Indians, and all their other minor league teams in the area. With the possible exception of the Indians, the others are pretty good value for the money and are very family friendly.Well i wouldnt say we intend to compete with theme for fans or anything. Most of our fans are girlfriends, parents, friends, etc... (we do draw a decent crowd for off campus games though dont get me wrong) but the main purpose is just to give guys a chance to continue to play competitive baseball. Also in some cases to give guys a chance to showcase what they've get and attempt to walk on. It proves one thing though, half of our team is made up of local guys from the Akron area; and i figure this fall our tryouts will have somewhere around 3 times the people as last year (last year was 45 people) many again will be from this area; and it shows that there is talent around here and if we could somehow get in the minds of these recruits we could have a great baseball program to go along with the other sports.

So basically since EMU and CMU are playing each other and two of the three get spots, Akron taking two of three or all three at BG would likely get them in the tournament? Either EMU or CMU automatically has to lose at least two games in their three game series.I wonder why there isn't more support for the baseball team. I mean from this point on now every game is about as important as it can get and yet virtually no chatter.I'll tell you the reason as a baseball fan who attends a good amount of Zips ball games. They are not very good. People are not going to come out and watch or even talk about a team that looks like it's lost much of the time. I've seen a few games this year where the outfielders have looked like bumbling idiots dropping flyballs, colliding, and what not. And that is just one small things that they do not do well. No way am i going to go through everything.Add to that the fact that the program really doesn't have a bright future in terms of recruits and also Midwest baseball is usually not competitive enough on avg to hang with the big boys of the west coast and SE, and you have a deadly combination that equals "no reason to care".That's why.

Their best bet would be to go back in time and win like 10 more games that they blew and should have won.If that answers your question.

NCAA Scholarship Sanctions
RootforRoo44 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball
I wonder if they will even be able to beat powerhouses like Delaware State this season? -
Though we may be losing by alot in football, we do actually have more points than many of the other teams. From user interactions and what not.It is lame though that only 3500+ people have added that and there are other MAC schools with 5 times as many fans.

That is awesome, wish there was more.

It's been a while since I've had any updates on the team. We have had plenty of rain outs and last night was only our 8th and 9th games. We play 2 today and 1 tomorrow and that wraps up the season. We are 6-3 so far, so not too bad of a start for the new program. If anyone is interested in trying out next fall, there is a team page on facebook you can become a fan of and that is where new info will come out of. Club Baseball page-------------------The Club team beat Notre Dame College in a doubleheader last night setting multiple team and individual records.-Game 1-The Zips scored 5 times in the first for the early lead capped by back to back to back doubles by Brandon Morton, Greg Bennett, and Andrew Payne. After NDC got on the board with 1 in the bottom half of the inning, Akron answered back when Mike Reynolds hit a 3 run homer to push the lead to 7. Akron would not score in the 3rd and that would be the last time all game they did not score in an inning. They would score in the 4th, 5th, 6th, and in the 7th would set a team record with an 11 run inning. The 23 hits and 23 runs in the game would both be team records. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 R H E--------------------------- 5-3-0-1-2-1-11 : 23/23/11-0-2-2-1-0-6 : 12/10/2LaBar (W, 1-0)HR: Reynolds-1 (1)2B: Bennett-1 (2), Morton-1 (3), Sprague-1 (1)R: Reynolds-4 (10), Thomas-1 (1), Sprague-5 (8), Sheeks-4 (5), Payne-1(2), Morton-1 (6), Monnin-1 (1), Cistone-2 (3), Bennett-3 (8), Coursen-1 (2)RBI: Reynolds-6 (8), Thomas-3 (3), Payne-2 (3), Morton-2 (7), Cistone-1 (1), Bennett-4 (6), Coursen-1 (2), Monnin-2 (2) Mike Reynolds, DH/OF Greg Bennett, 1B==================-Game 2-Akron continued it's hot hitting scoring 5 in the first two innings to jump out to an early lead that they would hold onto. Rain would cut the game short in the 5th inning, the game was official after 4 giving Akron the win. 1 2 3 4 R H E --------------------------- 3-2-0-0-: 5/9/1 2-0-0-0-: 2/3 /0Coil (W, 1-1) HR: 2B: Bennett-1 (3) R: Reynolds-2 (12), Morton-1 (7), Sheeks-1 (6), Sprague-1 (9)RBI: Reynolds-2 (10), Bennett-2 (8), Sprague-1 (1)Dustin Coil, P

Payne Cancels Visit
RootforRoo44 replied to Captain Kangaroo's topic in Akron Zips Basketball Recruiting
The real question is, why aren't we recruiting over in Asia or Europe trying to find that hidden prospect??!? I'm totally kidding but of course but guys like Nick C and some others from around the country make you wonder what kind of guys could be out there. With all the big boys attention on recruiting the big name guys in American, what could we be stealing from other continents? For every payne, there could be a Wong or a Hamburg out there ready to tear up the MAC. -
Soccer, KD, the Arena and Track
RootforRoo44 replied to 72 Roo's topic in Akron Zips NCAA Championship Soccer
Getting to the NCAA's more frequently than every 23 years will help attendance. If the team can get off to a decent start in 2009, the big crowds will be there. Joe Akron will be excited. KD will need to begin complaining about something else...like concessions.BRING BACK THE JALAPENOS!!! -
I found this on the Can't bbs board. Really? Just because Akron's bigger party school...I'm sorry but i do not go to Can't for my partying. That is just lame.

this is great news....though i wish they would have saved the rubber bullets and just gave them all a few extra whacks with the nightsticks.btw i guess over 120 have been arrested according to what i just heard on the radio.

you can do whatever you want, you're a casual zips fan and in no way part of the university. These rules are only made to punish certain schools when the NCAA feels the need to push it's agenda. Much like the banning of Indian symbols.

Just got back from State College, PA last night. Amazing how many people on campus think lowly of UofA. I swear the majority of them think we are D2.One thing i thought was odd is this (PSU Baseball and a Pirates Single A affiliate share the campus field):link to pictureThey even have this banner everywhere there as well with "fear the deer" on it:Can you say RIPOFF?!

FailTho he could prolly be quite the blocker. As far as Zeke, I think we'll have to see how fast and athletic he is in person. I bet he has the brains to learn something new. Let's not get any ideas tho Zeke we want you healthy and injury free! The dude runs a 4.8 forty. That's pretty darn fast for a 300 pound 6'10" guy.

Obama high, i'm guessing everyone gets the same grades regardless of effort and your lunches are paid for as well.
