Yup I missed it too. It's also a little annoying that they didn't just give one to season ticket holders, like they usually guarantee for all other giveaways. W/E.

It is, because you can't let it go.

Those were given out at the Women's Basketball game.

Three For Thursday [Zips @ Owls - BOWL edition]
Balsy replied to Dr Z's topic in Akron Zips Football
Stop the run? Probably not. Stop the run enough to prevent points? Count on it. -
The point differential doesn't mean anything if one team plays good teams and the other plays bad. Just saying.
-
We beat enough of the teams on our schedule to get to the championship game. Same argument you just made.
-
Man North Texas doesn't look very good...
-
Troy is demolishing Northern Texas right now, the team FAU beat twice this year. FAU beat them 69-31 and 41-17. Troy up 35-20 in the third. Troy narrowly survived us. Just thought it was interesting. Next best comparison is teams we played playing each other (even though it's like comparing apples and carrots).
-
So FAU has missed 10/15 of it's additional practices? I'm assuming we've had all of our additional practices? Recipe for an upset?
-
And this is when we say, it's time to grow up. Have a little class. Hopefully you will have some class; and if Akron upsets FAU you'll come back and congratulate the Zips on their victory. And if Akron loses to FAU, you will come here and talk up the Zips and wish us well in the future. I have a feeling you won't. Because so far your comments have been, rather childish.

Ajit Pai doesn't care about the "free market system" or principles. He got a handsome paycheck working at Verizon before becoming FCC chairman, and (mark my words) will likely get hired as a consultant by Verizon and get another fat paycheck after he's FCC chairman. Verizon doesn't care about the "free market system" or principles either. Verizon only cares about Verizon, and rigging the market for themselves. Ajit Pai only cares about Ajit Pai. And both sit back and collect bank while dismantling the free-market place of the internet, while apologists like yourself defend the illusion that a free market truly exists, as the people you profess to defend dismantle the one thing that actually truly resembles the free-market you profess to love so much. Irony, at it's greatest.

Yeah, and sometimes it IS the answer. Talk is cheap. I want it in writing.
-
You're right. Challenging my opinion that people should go research the topic, and form an opinion for themselves deserves to be challenged.
-
And this is why I made the comment earlier FAU fans; NO-ONE CARES! I've just scrolled through 2 pages of this topic and found more FAU fan comments than Zip fans...like responding to every little slight against your egos. This is a Zips forum! I enjoy having you guys give perspectives but good-gravy get off your high horses. There's nothing I can't wait for more, than Akron finding a way to disappoint FAU fans like we've done so many other fan bases whose teams were "vastly superior" to ours.

Please note that I am not creating this post as to start a conversation about policy, rather as a means for others to go and research this topic and make informed decisions for themselves. Though it is not ZIPS related, I do think it is an important topic for all members of online communities to be concerned with. Today FCC Chairman Ajit Pai successfully overturned internet protections known as "Net Neutrality". In a nutshell, the now overturned protections, prevented internet providers from selectively slowing down/limiting access certain websites. Internet providers were required to provide an unimpeded access to all content available on the internet. The minutia of this topic is incredibly boring to talk about at length or in great detail other than to say that it potentially an issue that will affect the internet as we know and currently consume it today. One other country of note, Portugal, has previous overturned it's protections on Net Neutrality and it's internet packages look something like this: This obviously differs from how we currently consume the internet. Where anyone of us, right now, can type any website into our browser and go to. I am not creating this post to tell you what to think, or to create a ZipsNation vigorous debate that we've, thankfully, gotten away from over the last couple of months. I would, however, feel amiss as a part of this online-community to not at least put this topic out there for those who may not know about it, so they can go research it for themselves.

Whenever I post over there, which is rare, it's usually on the ohio-akron match-up or something MAC related. They had a thread over there talking about firing Frank Solich. I commented on it, because it's an interesting grass-is/isn't-always-greener conversation. Many of us would love to have had the winning consistency that Ohio has had over the last decade; yet part of their fanbase is up in arms it seems. I don't mind the FAU fans posting here, I just find it a little tiring how defensive some of the comments had the "yeah, but the Buffalo loss wasn't really a loss" and the proceed to continue to defend that position post-after-post. The "FAU-is-awesome" approach is just annoying. I'm okay with fans coming and giving their two-cents, just as long as it doesn't turn into a "My-team is awesome and yours sucks" kind of conversation. I've loved the contributions on attendance, and the current state of their program. I haven't cared for the "but our loss wasn't really a loss" apologetics.
-
And Ohio University has probably had the most consistent success of any of the three teams being discussed over the last decade, and we beat them this year. I'm just trying to point out that it's kinda fruitless to come to the Zips forum to spill out why FAU is so awesome. We don't care. Because we think Akron is awesome. There can still be an exchange of comments, though it's fruitless to take the apologetic approach. Cause really, we're already dealing with our own apologetics for our own team...we don't need to read it for another team. The comment above is an example of said apologetics, we ultimately don't care.
-
I haven't seen a single person here underestimate FAU. I think most here have had a relatively unbiased position; a loss to Buffalo is still a loss to Buffalo, which means FAU isn't unbeatable, irregardless of the apologetics fans will do to justify why they lost a game. If there is a team being underestimated, it's Akron...not FAU.
-
Did you pat yourself on the back after posting this? nobody cares for these "fun-facts" because you're basically painting the picture that Akron-Sucks, FAU-is-Awesome, with some apologetics mixed in...on a Zips Forum. Cool. Seriously who cares about any of these stats other than FAU fans?
-
When I first started reading it I expected it to be because they were flushing so many condoms down the toilet. That's far more believable.
-
A good number of the season-ticket packages are Z-fund donations. My Akron-Alumni package ($170) in some part counts as a Z-Fund donation as well, though it's not listed as a "season ticket" purchase, because if gives season tickets to all sports.

One better than the MAC Typically draws. We did it this time...with a 7-6 team. Boca Raton is a step-up (financially speaking). I honestly don't care that much at the end of the day. I get to continue watching Zips football for a 14th game, and get to add a new patch to the jersey.
-
Thanks for sharing! Yeah it was very interesting, we had a very similar situation here saying that we were going to another Bowl, and then suddenly announced the Boca Raton Bowl. Which is obviously a step up in the $$$ department, ($300k).
-
So what I've learned from this...the "Bowden" name has a draw (still). If we could get Akron to a high win season...say 10-2, or 9-3... and win the MAC, there's a chance we could get a super awesome bowl? Make it Happen Terry. Make. It. Happen.

Now that it's official: The Akron Zips will be playing FAU in the Boca Raton Bowl. Feel free to discuss all game related items here.
